Moon Called
Mercy Thompson #1
by Patricia Briggs
THE FIRST MERCY THOMPSON NOVEL!
Moon Called is the novel that introduced Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson to the world and launched a #1 bestselling phenomenon…
Mercy Thompson is a shapeshifter, and while she was raised by werewolves, she can never be one of them, especially after the pack ran her off for having a forbidden love affair. So she’s turned her talent for fixing cars into a business and now runs a one-woman mechanic shop in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State.
But Mercy’s two worlds are colliding. A half-starved teenage boy arrives at her shop looking for work, only to reveal that he’s a newly changed werewolf—on the run and desperately trying to control his animal instincts. Mercy asks her neighbor Adam Hauptman, the Alpha of the local werewolf pack, for assistance.
But Mercy’s act of kindness has unexpected consequences that leave her no choice but to seek help from those she once considered family—the werewolves who abandoned her…

Called
Southern Watch #1
by Robert J. Crane
A demon hunter without a home. A cop without a cause. A seemingly unstoppable evil rising in a small town…
WARNING: Contains violence, coarse language and sexual situations.
Archibald “Arch” Stan was a local cop in Midian, Tennessee that was good at his job, good at being a husband, and exceptionally good at hiding his disappointment at not being able to figure out what was missing in his life that made it all seem so empty.
Lafayette Hendricks looked like a drifter, a broken-down hitchhiker blown through Midian on the prevailing winds. When Arch catches him in a fight on the town square, though, things start to get weird, fast, because the guy he’s fighting doesn’t die when he gets shot. And Hendricks is carrying a sword.
Pretty soon, Arch’s whole life is turned upside down by Hendricks’s revelation that there’s a secret world operating under the one he’s been living in his whole life – one filled with demons, chaos, and unspeakable evils, one of which is already in town, stirring trouble. And if the two men don’t band together to keep watch on the darkness falling on Midian, then this small town might just get swallowed up by the forces of evil – with the rest of the world to follow shortly behind.
If you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Stephen King, Michael Anderle, Shayne Silvers, Shannon Mayer, or J.R. Rain, you will LOVE the first installment of the Southern Watch series.

All Systems Red
The Murderbot Diaries #1
by Martha Wells
A murderous android discovers itself in All Systems Red, a tense science fiction adventure by Martha Wells that interrogates the roots of consciousness through Artificial Intelligence.
“As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure.”
In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.
But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern.
On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid — a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.
But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it’s up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

Killing Trail
Timber Creek K-9 Mystery #1
by Margaret Mizushima
When a young girl is found dead in the mountains outside Timber Creek, life-long resident Officer Mattie Cobb and her partner, K-9 police dog Robo, are assigned to the case that has rocked the small Colorado town.
With the help of Cole Walker, local veterinarian and a single father, Mattie and Robo must track down the truth before it claims another victim. But the more Mattie investigates, the more she realizes how many secrets her hometown holds. And the key may be Cole’s daughter, who knows more than she’s saying.
The murder was just the beginning, and if Mattie isn’t careful, she and Robo could be next. Suspenseful and smart, Killing Trail is a gripping read that will have readers clamoring for more Mattie and Robo for years to come. Fans of Nevada Barr and C.J. Box will love this explosive debut.

I’ve read all but one of these! Love Moon Called, Murderbot and Extinction Horizon, really enjoyed Tombyards and DNFed Called after a couple of chapters. You should have some fun reading ahead! I’d go with Extinction Horizon as it is a complete series though companion novels are starting to come out! If not that, Murderbot has four books so that will be a short series catchup!
I read the sample for Called and wasn’t sure about it. I’ll try to go farther than you did and see how it goes. I like the idea of the story line. I loved Trackers and Hell Divers so I’m leaning towards Extinction. I know you really enjoyed those. I’ve been wanting to read Patricia’s books for a while now and figure its time. Muderbots is getting some good reviews and has come recommended to me. And I read a short story from Orlando’s series and loved it so I’m sure I’ll have fun with the series too.
I haven’t read any of these titles. Moon Called is one that has me intrigued. I love books about shapeshifting. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it! 🙂
All of these have been calling my name. LOL I enjoy shifter stories too and Patricia has been on my author list for some time.
I haven’t read any of them, but the Mercy Thompson series has been on my TBR for a really long time. So I guess that would would have my vote for ya. 🙂
The Mercy Thompson series has been on my wish list too long too. Theses other’s are newer and I’m excited about all of them!
I personally would start the Martha Wells series, it’s supposed to be amazing!
I have a feeling they might be made into movies or a show. They sure are getting the hype!
I haven’t read any, but I’m going to go with Killing Trail. I love a good mystery.
I’m reading so many mysteries right now and it finally got to the top of the mystery genre pile:)
Killing tail is on my list too. Go for that one 🙂
It sounds so good, doesn’t it!
I’m curious to see which is chosen. Nicholas’s cover caught my eye…
sherry @ fundinmental
You need to try his books. I’ve read two of his series and they are among my favorites now!
I haven’t heard of any of these books before but the one that I most like the sound of is Killing Trail. I hope you enjoy whichever you decide to read next.
I recently finished Katie Ruggle’s k-9 series and was hungry for more in the category. Killing Trail sounds very good:)
I enjoyed Moon Called but like a lot if series I never got oast book one but I want too!! I also really want to read the K9 one!!!
I plan to start all of these and read the first book in each then the second in each. It should be fun and keep the anticipation at the maximum:)
I vote for Moon Called because I have it in my tbr pile too!
It’s been on my list for too long too. This is the year!
Moon Called looks REALLY good! Happy Reading!!
She has such killer covers for the series!
I keep seeing lots of raves for Martha Wells.
Me too and I decided it was time to get started on the series:)
If you are going to only read one of these, my vote goes for Mercy Thompson. My second vote would be for the Murderbot series.
I’m going to read all of these. I have the first book in each series. Just which one will be first is hard to decide. LOL
I agree with Carole. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs and All Systems Red by Martha Wells are the ones I have read and they are amazing. Some of the others look good as well, but if you haven’t read these, they are my top picks. Anne – Books of My Heart
Thanks, Anne. I’m so excited and wish I could consume all of these at once. LOL
Love Wells and Briggs. Now you have me curious about the others. I hope you read or listen to The Murderbot Diaries and the Mercy Thompson series.
I’ll be reading or listening to all of these. Some I plan to do both and some I’ll probably just read. It can get pricey. :LOL Especially as I go with physical copies when available.
I vote for Patricia Briggs! Because I am curious as many bloggers already talked to me about her 🙂
I have wanted to start Brigg’s series for a long time. And this is the year for all of these!
