This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Some chit chat.

They don’t call it the lazy days of summer for nothing. I have been so lazy! My house needs cleaning. I can see dust collecting. Cobwebs forming. Guess it is time to get off my bootie and get to it. I’ll get right on that. As soon as I finish the book I’m reading. Hey, I’m right at the part where…. LOL

So let me see. What new happened this week. My car broke down. What fun. I’m hoping it’s nothing too costly and I’ll get it back next week. Figures it happens with the weekend so close. I do have a loaner they gave me to drive though. It’s a little car and I’m used to my SUV. I feel like no one can see me on the road. LOL And there was a knock at my door. The city workers informed me that the tree in my front yard had gotten too big to trim back. It was interfering with the power lines. Could they remove it, for free? I loved that tree. But, the roots had already damaged my water line twice, costing a hefty chunk in repairs. So, yeah. They did it in one day and you can hardly tell it was ever there. I miss that tree and it looks strange when I drive up to my house.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

An innkeeper who reads minds. An ornery detective. And a trail of bodies. Cider Cove is the premiere destination for murder.

My name is Bizzy Baker, and I can read minds—not every mind, not every time but most of the time, and believe me when I say it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

Bizzy Baker runs the Country Cottage Inn, has the ability to pry into the darkest recesses of both the human and animal mind, and has just stumbled upon a body. With the help of her kitten, Fish, a mutt named Sherlock Bones and an ornery yet dangerously good looking homicide detective, Bizzy is determined to find the killer.

Cider Cove, Maine is the premiere destination for fun and relaxation. But when a body turns up, it’s the premiere destination for murder.

*A laugh out loud cozy mystery by New York Times Bestseller Addison Moore and her partner in cozy crime, Bellamy Bloom*

Comments
  1. Beware Of The Reader says:

Dang Laura sorry for your car and your tree! And yes me driving in a SUV too I can imagine you must feel like a bug lol

  2. Greg says:

Aw sorry to hear about the tree. And the car! I just had to blow $500 on car repairs too- everything’s so expensive now.

It is hard to go from an SUV to a car lol- I don’t adjust well to that haha.

Hope you have a good Snday!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It wouldn’t be so bad if the tree hadn’t been my favorite. Darn it! Any car repairs aren’t cheap. I’,m crossing my fingers it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg! And I feel invisible on the road driving the little car. It sure does zip along though!

  3. Siran says:

Lack of motivation doesn’t help either

  4. Lelia T says:

    Losing a tree, that’s hard 🙁

  5. Rachel @Waves of Fiction says:

Sorry to hear about your car. And oh no about your tree! I love trees and I think they add so much to a property, so it breaks my heart when someone cuts them down just because they make a mess with leaves or something. Your situation is different with it causing expensive damage. Sounds like it was a long time coming, but I understand how you’d miss the tree now that it’s gone. Hope you get another pretty one planted. Have a better week, Laura! 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I hope to get my car back this coming week. I sure miss it. And I miss my tree but it was time. I plan to plant something else soon.

  6. I was excited to buy Bug Out Atlantic book one! I loved the original Bug Out series and by the time I read the Texas and California spin off series, the Atlantic one should be fully published and ready to binge on! The weather is not cooperating to let me get on with the rest of the fence painting. It looks so stupid having half bright raspberry and the rest fading red! I hope to get a bit done next week if these storms don’t come!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I meant to start with the original series and grabbed this by mistake. I will get to the others as I know how much you enjoyed them! You’ve been trying to finish the fence for some time now. I hope you can get to it before the weather stops you again:)

  7. kozbisa says:

I am impressed the city offered to remove your tree for free. Usually, they make the homeowner pay. Sorry about your car. It’s always stressful waiting to find out how much it’s going to cost. I almost jumped on Small Spaces, but I am too review book heavy. The good news is they have it on my eLibrary, so when my load is lighter, I can give it a look. Hope you enjoy all your new books.

    • fuonlyknew says:

They even cut some of it up so I could use if for firewood! I gave it to my boss as I don’t have a fireplace:) Small Places looked good for my October scary reads feature so I went for it.

  8. Jinjer says:

    RIP dear tree. 🙁

Ugh…sorry about your car. I’ve been putting off taking ours in to get an oil change. Must. Do. That.

    • fuonlyknew says:

My vehicle is older so I make sure to keep everything checked. But, things do go wrong and I’m hopeful this isn’t too bad.

  9. Stormi D Johnson says:

That sucks about your car I do hope it’s not expensive! It is so hot there is nothing you can do but lay around and be lazy and read! 😉 You got some cool books hope you enjoy them all!

Have a great week and happy reading,
    Stormi
    Week in Review

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m hoping it isn’t too costly. Any car repairs aren’t cheap and this may not be too major!

  10. Tammy says:

That’s so sad about your tree! I hate when the city decides to remove trees. Although I know it’s for a good reason, it still makes me sad. The trees were there first!

    • fuonlyknew says:

The city really worked with me the past few years, but the tree had just gotten to difficult to trim so I agreed to let them remove it. They don’t like removing trees either. Many of our roads look like tunnels with all of the live oaks spanning the roadways.

  11. Yvonne says:

I’m sorry about the car and the tree! I hope the car won’t be too costly. Oh, you know I have to get Kittyzen’s Arrest. I’m going to check out Amazon right now. Hope you have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m crossing my fingers on the repairs. They think it may just be a coil or fouled plug wire. I had to grab Kityyzen’s Arrest. Too cute!

  12. Brokedown cars suck!! Its always pricey. Thankfully my husband is a mechanic so I don’t have to worry too much (its still pricey even at cost!). Its so strange how much a tree can change the appearance of something! But, glad they took it down for free. Thats another expense no one wants to pay!

    • fuonlyknew says:

My ex husband often helps with car repairs but he was so busy I just had it donw where I work. Hoping it isn’t anything too major! My yard looks so huge without that tree. And it was so pretty. But, it was starting to look just a bit ragged and the reasons for letting them remove it were common sense. Still, I miss it:)

  13. I’m not sure if you have the wrong cover, or the wrong description for the cozy mystery you preordered. The description is appealing though.

Have a great reading week, and I hope any repairs needed are only minor (and cheap)

  14. Fingers crossed for you with the car repairs! I hope it’s not too costly.
I’m envious of the chilled summer. Summer break starts so late here that I’m just counting down until I can start enjoying mine.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I;m lucky that one of my jobs has a repair shop so the mechanic gives me a bit of a break on the labor cost. Still an expense I wasn’t planning for. This is the first summer where I just haven’t felt like doing much. Probably because I’m working two jobs now. LOL

  15. I have a tree that I wish the city would remove for us. Glad it helped you out.
I fell for same preorder – imagine that. But I also got caught up in a Christmas one as well. It was miserable here too. And I had truck problems too this week but I’m using one of my Gpa’s cars and in denial about getting the truck fixed. I sunk too much money in it in December and am over it! Maybe I’ll feel like dealing once Mr. Barb finds someone to look at it for me. Hope you have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

That book was too fun to resist, Barb! LOL It’s like the tree was never there and I really miss it. Miss my SUV too! I’m hoping they fix it soon.

  16. sjhigbee says:

Oh my goodness – that’s a hard week with the broken-down car and having your tree removed… I hope the car issues are soon resolved and that you get used to your new landscape minus your tree soon.

  17. Liliana says:

Between the car and tree… yikes! Lol. I hope you get your car back soon and hopefully it’s nothing too series… they can get costly 😬

Hope you have a great week! Happy reading!

  18. S. J. Pajonas (spajonas) says:

Concerning your tree, this is going to happen to us too any day now. The maple tree out front is huge and almost dead, and the power lines run right through it. But it belongs to the town, not us, so we can’t take it down. I suspect it has a year or two left before the town cuts it down. Sigh. I do like it, even if it hardly gets leaves anymore.

  19. Northwoman says:

Well lucky you that they would remove it for free. I have heard of it costing about $1000 per tree and I think that was without the stump being removed. I’d miss it too. I have The Wanderers on audio. I keep looking at Small Spaces because I enjoy Katherine Arden but MG + horror is probably not for me.

Have a lovely week and stay cool!

    • fuonlyknew says:

They did it for tree since it was the city asking to remove it. I miss it still! Small Spaces looked perfect for my spooky reads in feature! And I can’t wait to start The Wanderers. Heard such good things about it.

  20. Lola says:

That’s sad they removed that tree, although I guess it’s annoying too when it interferes with the power lines and water.

You got quite some new books this week and nice list of freebies too.
