  One Polar Bear

by Crystal Beach

Genre: Children’s Fiction

Synopsis

One Polar Bear is a delightful rhyming book filled with lovable animals from the Canadian Arctic. Polar Bear is home sick and alone. His many animal friends drop by to cheer him up. This counting story celebrates individuals with a variety of abilities and disabilities, and the text helps teach the numbers one to ten. Canada is a country made up of many peoples and cultures. This book reflects this diversity by featuring the word “welcome” in different languages amongst its pages. One Polar Bear is a wonderful bedtime story and a beautiful way to educate and celebrate the differences in our world.

If you can be anything, be inclusive.

MY REVIEW

Such a delightful book. Animals of the Arctic visit a homesick polar bear and I love how this correlates with counting on each page. If your child is on page six, they can have fun counting six of each animal featured. I had fun and so will you and your children.

Told in rhyme, the story rolls of the tongue. The illustrations are colorful and cute. And the author did something else I enjoyed. On each page the word Welcome is included. I learned some new ones. And many of the visiting animals have injuries or disabilities. Having a son with a disability, I found this especially heart warming and inviting.

A clever, fun story perfect for bedtime reading. I’m sure children will be wanting to read it or have it read to them again and again.
