Some chit chat.

So, here we are again! Another Sunday and Christmas is right around the corner! I’m so ready for the holiday break from work. LOL

My blog has been busy this week. Reviews and lots of events. Make sure you check my other post links at the bottom so you can enter some awesome giveaways!

So, let’s see. What’s new? Not much!

What to talk about? How about a white Christmas?

I live on the Gulf Coast and we don’t get snow. Not often. If it does get truly cold, we might gets tiny ice pellets. I only recall snow once or twice and it didn’t last long.

I was born in Michigan and snow was in abundance during the winter. I loved to go sledding and snowmobiling, hit the frozen ponds for some ice skating and the slopes and trails for the snow skiing.

That was when I was younger. Now I’d probably freeze to death. I’m not kidding. I used to go back home in the winter to enjoy the fresh powder and could never get warm. Your blood thins in the tropical climates and all I did was shiver. LOL

Down here, it’s warm, in the 70s, and everything is growing. My lawn needs to be mowed, the flower beds need to be weeded. Christmas decorations look strange without snow. I’ll never get used to that. But, I don’t miss the frigid weather either.

So, my question to you is, does it feel less like Christmas for you without the snow?

I thought I’d share with you some ornaments on my Christmas tree. They have a southern flavor to them.

A Christmas Octopus.

So, what did you get to read this week?

Got any recommendations?

I’d love to know and thanks so much for visiting fuonlyknew.

  1. We are a little farther north but I can think of 1 Christmas in my entire life that was a white Christmas so I really don’t associate snow with Christmas except on TV. I start feeling Christmas-y as soon as the tree goes up but my husband is struggling a little because it’s on the warmer side. So many great freebies this week… Must resist! Have a great week!

  2. I have a hard time finding the Christmas spirit when there’s no snow, too, Laura. And I used to do all the same things as you when I was younger. I loved going skating on frozen ponds or lakes, and we also did a lot of cross-country skiing. I don’t get too cold when I’m in Norway in the winter now, but I’m kind of glad it’s not as cold here in Geneva…
Your tree looks great, well done on all those fun decorations.
I hope you’ll enjoy your new books. Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

I’ve been in the south for over half my life so I’m kind of used to no snow. I do like it to be chilly though:)

  3. Wow what a great book haul. I think it feels less like Christmas without snow. I’m from Indiana, but now live in California. My son was born in Minnesota and this year will be his second year without snow. He keeps asking when are we going sledding? What do I say to that. Have a great week and happy reading!

  4. I enjoyed A Very Coco Christmas. It was the only Ho-Ho-Ho read-a-thon book I liked. I live in Upstate NY and we are having springlike weather in the 50s. After two horribly long and frigid winters, I don’t care if we don’t have a white Christmas this year. I would miss it if it wasn’t snowing next year though. Have a wonderful week. πŸ™‚

    • fuonlyknew says:

If it’s the only book you liked, that says a lot:) I’ve had it on my kindle and now I’m going to move it to the top.

  5. Dagny says:

I grew up where it snowed about once every ten years and not on Christmas, so the only early Christmas I had with snow was when we went to visit relatives. I’ve since lived in places where we could count on snow every winter, but not necessarily on Christmas – in fact, usually not until January or February. So I am among those hoping for sun on Christmas day, lol.

  6. Greg Hill says:

I like Christmas with snow but I can live without it too. Here in Michigan as you’ve probably heard it’s been pretty warm for this time of year, but it’s going back to the 30’s I guess. Later this. Since I usually have to travel on Christmas I can do without snow and ice for that reason. Just a little dusting for the mood, then melt please. πŸ™‚

I’m sure I’d get used to the southern climate too. 70’s sounds good right now!

  7. That Christmas octopus is cute. I might need one. πŸ˜€

Your free books are tempting me but I *will* resist! I will, lol.

Happy reading and have a good week!

  8. katarguelles says:

We have a 2 hour drive if we want to see any snow. I’ve always wanted a white Christmas but I would never do the driving lol. So good thing it doesn’t snow where I live. I love the ornaments and I always like getting ornaments from places we travel to. I can’t wait for my break from work too. Hopefully it comes fast for us so we can relax lol. Have a great week!

  9. Heidi says:

I grew up in Idaho and we almost always had snow for Christmas. I love Christmas snow, but hate it the rest of the time. We don’t get much snow here in Oregon and when we do it is a big deal.

  10. Lola says:

We might get snow around christmas, but I cna’t remember the last time we actually had a white christmas. The weather has been mild lately so I don’t think we will get much snow this year. It does feel like christmas without the snow, but I do feel like the cold weather is part of christmas. I can’t imagine celebrating christmas in summer.

Your christmas ornaments are so cool! That starfish! And santa on a dolphin? lol. They look great! Have a great week!

  11. We are enjoying mild temps here in MI, but snow may be on its way for Christmas. That flamingo ornament is darling. Have a great week.

  12. jennifer@badbirdreads says:

Aww I like the Santa starfish and Christmas octopus.

  13. Yvonne says:

Those ornaments are great! I have a few of those books too. Enjoy and have a great week!

  14. Whaaa? Your blood thins in the tropical climates? I didn’t know that. No wonder I freeze to death.

Since I also live in Texas (Central), I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen snow in my lifetime. It doesn’t last long at all. So, snow doesn’t really make it feel like Christmas for me. Christmas lights is what does it for me. When people start putting up those lights, I like driving around and looking. It doesn’t matter if I pass the same houses on the way home, I still like the lights.

  15. Teddyree says:

Cute Christmas ornaments. We don’t get snow here even in the dead of winter, Christmas in Australia is usually spent in the pool or aircon or at the beach. Normal for us but I’d love to experience a white Christmas just once lol.
Nice mix of books, have a great week and happy reading πŸ™‚

  16. atothewr says:

We so rarely see snow here that it would seem weird to have it on Christmas Day. I would love to see some though and then let it go away quick.

  17. samoak says:

Great haul this week! Also I love your ornaments. Especially the Christmas Octopus. It’s facial expression cracks me up.

  18. I love your unique ornaments. Our weather has been unseasonable warm. It has been raining for 3 days here! Sweet haul this week, and of course I am eyeing up all the holiday themed books!

  19. Molly's Book Nook says:

Oh my, that flamingo is fabulous! It should be the tree topper πŸ˜€

  20. Myrthe says:

I’ve celebrated Christmas in Florida twice, with about 90 degree weather, then once in Toronto, where it was somewhere in the 20s. Mostly in the Netherlands though, where we don’t often have a white Christmas, though we do get snow throughout winter. It’s not the snow that makes it Christmas, it’s the entire attitude and atmosphere around it. I really did enjoy those very hot Christmases, because I get cold so easily as well (yay for electric blankets!)

  21. Lauren Becker says:

I don’t really expect snow around Christmas. It tends to snow a lot more in the new year than in December. However, our weather has been quite warm lately and that’s kind of strange. haha It doesn’t feel quite like Christmas, but I am excited it’s this time of the year because I get to hang out with friends and I get a bit of a break from other responsibilities!

  22. We don’t tend to get many white Christmas’ here either and I live in Scotland (known for being wet and cold). I remember there been a couple white ones but it’s usually just very icy. I would love to have a proper white Christmas like Bing Crosby describes though. Most of our snow comes in January and February.

  23. Naomi Hop says:

I’ve never had a White Christmas!! Would love to do so one day! It’s always too hot down here! Looks like you’ve picked up a lot of Christmas reads… enjoy!

  24. We get an occasional white Christmas in Virginia, but we’ve also had a few with temperatures in the 60s. I do love a snowy Christmas, so I’m glad to be spending this one with my family in the New Mexico mountains (more or less), where snow is a distinct possibility. In fact, there’s already a little on the ground.

Have a wonderful Christmas, and thanks for sharing the ornament photos!

  25. Red Iza says:

I love your Christmas decorations, they’re so original ! And no, Christmas doesn’t feel the same without snow. But I like my winter better without snow, when I have to drive to the station on slippery roads with my old car, I’m stressed ! I added The legend of Devil’s creek to my list. Enjoy your week πŸ™‚

  26. buffywnabe says:

Those are some unique ornaments! Love how personal they are!! You’ve got a couple on the freebie list that look really good! Thanks for stopping by my Sunday Post earlier!

  27. I thought I already came over here…but here I am. I picked up some of the great freebies and am getting out of control with my reading pile…again. LOL

  28. Emma says:

We’re having one of our mildest Christmases ever here in Ireland this year. No snow in sight I’m afraid.
    Lovely pics, Laura.
