MY REVIEW

It’s always hard to review the next book in a series and this is the fourth and final book. Each review gets shorter to prevent spoilers. I adored this series and while I was sad to see the end was near, I was anxious to find out what happened.

Each book got more serious, more dangerous and I worried for many of the characters.

Some get their happy ever afters, some don’t, and some get something in between.

There’s a huge loss, betrayal, misdirection and confrontations. Characters become suspect, then not, then suspect again. It’s hard to determine who’s up to what, and minor characters take on more prominent roles. It will keep you reading into the wee hours.

The story unravels quickly. You’ll be knocked on your heels by a tragedy and the action is relentless.

Nothing was rushed or awkward as the author revealed the answers to my questions and led me deep into a deadly mystery.

It all builds until it boils over. Pouring out the finale with a big surprise and a most enchanting ending.

Tragedy, triumph, romance that’s not too dicey, and scenes that leap out at you, I left this world with a hint of sadness and a smile, and I recommend this series to everyone.

5 Stars

Book Description:

Edward Scot and Victor Blackwood have despised one another for nearly a quarter of a century, but now their simmering hatred is about to erupt.

When Cassie Scot returns home from her sojourn in Pennsylvania, she finds that her family has taken a hostage. Desperate to end the fighting before someone dies, Cassie seeks help from local seer Abigail Hastings, Evan Blackwood’s grandmother. But Abigail has seen her own death, and when it comes at the hand of Cassie’s father, Victor Blackwood kills Edward Scot.

But things may not be precisely as they appear.

Evan persuades Cassie to help him learn the truth, teaming them up once again in their darkest hour. New revelations about Evan and his family make it difficult for Cassie to cling to a shield of anger, but can Evan and Cassie stop a feud that has taken on a life of its own?

Conclusion to the Cassie Scot series.

Check out the excerpt!

Catching her hand, Noah reeled her body back to him. One strong arm hooked around the rise of her hips and pinned her to him. “Your gift is beautiful. Don’t ever doubt that.” Turning the inside of her arm skyward, his mouth teased the tender flesh of her wrist. The heat of his breath and delicate caress of each dotted kiss sent waves of desire coursing through her. Hazel eyes, warmed to molten gold by palpable desire, locked with her own and refused to falter. “Please, don’t deny me.”

The adoration in his gaze, and the seduction of his touch made Ireland feel like the most beautiful being on the planet … until she caught sight of Rip out of the corner of her eye. He was wearing that matching mask of longing. It wasn’t her they wanted—it never had been—but a taste of what she could do. To be near death, and delve into the darkness. Their own twisted yearning to thumb their nose at mortality led them to follow her.

Clamping her eyes on the wash of tears that threatened, Ireland ignored the wailing of her heart … and laid a palm to each of their cheeks. One lone tear snuck between her lashes at the cascade of tingles seeping up her arms.

“You can’t blame them for not understanding,” a familiar voice drawled behind her.

She spun as he neared, leaving Rip and Noah wheezing for breath—or, more likely, completion of her task.

Techno-colored flowers bloomed in a colorless world each time the sole of Ridley’s shoes met the earth. The crisp cut of his white, tailored suit was accented by a burst of color from the button-down shirt beneath that changed in hue to match the species of flowers that sprung to life. Hydrangeas blue. Orchid purple. Lily fuchsia. Rose coral. As he neared, Ireland noticed his eyes morphed to match as well. The result hypnotic.

His haggard and troubled façade was a thing of the past. The man before her exuded confidence and a zest for life from every pore. The draw of which was so magnetic Ireland had to fight to keep her feet planted while her body insisted she close the distance between them.

“To them this is a thrill, a game of chicken against the Reaper himself.” Ridley paused beside her, his shoulder skimming hers. Even then he didn’t grace her with a glance, his attention fixed on Rip and Noah. Tipping his head toward her, the warmth of his breath teased over her breast bone. “For us, it’s destiny.”

The moment he stepped away from her, the chill of solitude lashed at Ireland’s soul and cut deep. Bending eye-level with her withering subjects, Ridley pursed his rose petal lips to blow a soft, healing breath over both of them. Wan complexions of the dying were ripened to plump apricot. Both men blinked away their disappointment before dipping in a low bow—foreheads to the ground in a show of respect.

“No need for that, boys.” Ridley smoothed the front of his suit coat, a self-depreciating chuckle playing over his lips.

Neither humbled servant budged.

“You’re like me?” Pacing in a slow circle around him, Ireland’s eye narrowed.

He matched her steps, leading them in an intimate waltz normally reserved for predators—or lovers.

“Like you?” He tsked. “Oh no, my darling flower. There is no other like you. Our only similarity is being pawns in a game that began centuries before either of our fathers got an amorous gleam in their eyes.”

Ireland’s gaze lingered over the soft curve of his mouth, wondering if his lips could possibly taste as delectable as they looked. “How do we play?”

Curling one finger into a ruffled tuft of her skirt, Ridley pulled her to him. Bowing his head, he brushed his cheek over the delicate curve of her collarbone. “The game is already in motion,” he murmured. “The rule sheet not meant for our eyes. All we can do now is stay alive.”

Ireland weaved her fingers into his hair, yanking his head back with a passion driven force that bordered on violent. “I’ve taken lives. I’m a monster,” she snarled against his lips, tormenting them both with the agonizing veil of energy that denied their touch.

His hand snaked up her arm to find her fingers and loosen her grasp. Palm to palm. Fingers entwined with fingers. “Does granting it make me any better?”

Ridley didn’t give her time to answer. With one hand pressed to the small of her back he crushed her to him.  Their lips met with a desperate urgency that caused Heaven and Earth to quake in nervous anticipation of what was coming …

I’ve got Chapter One to share with you.

“Don’t you usually come in pairs?”

Officer Unruh smiled and nodded. “Yes, sir.”

Max grinned. “You just get out?”

“Yes, sir. US Marines.”

“Ah…yeah, I recognize the haircut.” It wasn’t just that. Max stood a foot over him at six feet, but the patrolman made up for it with broad arms and a big chest. He didn’t look like he needed a partner. And then there was this “sir” business…

“Have you been doing this long?”

“I’ve been with the Joplin PD for five months. And you?”

Max drummed his fingers on the bag hanging from his shoulder. “I’ve been a social worker long enough to know which house on this street we’re going to, even without looking at the numbers.” It was the one without siding, just bare insulation boards nailed to the outer wall.

“Yes, sir.”

Max didn’t resent Unruh’s presence; he just didn’t think it was necessary. He’d taken cops with him lots of times, and on a few of those instances, it turned out he’d needed them. But Brian insisted the workers take cops with them anytime an allegation of drugs was involved in a hotline. It irritated him for a number of reasons, not the least of which happened to be that Brian’s job used to be his.

That was another story…

The lawn was overgrown and the wooden porch sagged, but they arrived at the door without incident. Max knew the drill. The burly young policeman stepped to the side of the locked screen door and knocked. A few seconds later, an interior door opened and a man’s face appeared behind the filthy fly screen. Max had been expecting a woman.

“Is Donna here?” The man looked at Max with bulging, bloodshot eyes that darted back to the cop as though expecting a friendlier face. Whatever look Unruh gave, it wasn’t what he’d hoped. He returned to Max, who repeated the question.

“She’s not here.”

It was eight thirty in the morning, so if she worked she might have been there. Max didn’t have employer information for the mother. Also, he kind of doubted she had a job.

Unruh rattled the latch a bit, but it didn’t budge. “Sir, could you unlock the door please?”

“What’s this about?”

Max stepped to the screen and held up his plastic ID badge. It said Max Hollingsworth in big letters under a rather unflattering picture of him. The bulging-eyed man looked at the ID then back up at Max. He looked surprised. He shouldn’t have been.

“Sir,” repeated Unruh, “Could you unlock the door please?”

He looked back to Unruh and nodded. After a click, the door swung open. Max and the patrolman entered the home.

The look on Unruh’s face implied disgust. Max grinned, he really hadn’t been doing this long. The home was a mess, but Max had seen worse—far worse. In a very short time, so would Unruh. Places like this would become normal for him. Max remembered when this kind of mess would have bothered him, too.

The term “shithole” was tossed around so much, but it wasn’t that bad. The awkwardly rectangular living room smelled like dog and had a few plastic microwave food boats piled on an old coffee table. Despite the smell, there was no dog in sight. The most expensive piece of furniture in the room, probably the house, was a flat screen television. It was paused on an image of a video console football game. The wireless controller rested on a ratty couch covered by a slightly less ratty blanket.

“Donna’s sleeping—”

“You said Donna wasn’t here.” Max glanced over his shoulder. The man wore dirty grey boxer shorts and a plaid robe. He’d forgone the courtesy of a shirt, so his guests were treated to ribs poking through the mole-speckled, pasty skin of a man who rarely left the house.

“Yeah,” he replied with a dirty chuckle. “I saw the cop and said that.” He looked at Unruh like he thought the cop would be amused. The cop was not, so he looked away.

Max produced a small notebook and pen from the bag hanging at his side. “Who are you?”

“I’m Jim…I live with Donna.”

“You sleep on the couch?” He gestured to it. Jim shook his head.

“Only in the day.”

Must be nice, Max thought, sleeping in the day. “You work nights, then?” Max had perfected the art of over-tact, being a complete dick without getting punched. The people he dealt with didn’t tend to get subtlety. Unruh’s grin showed he got it—the cops usually did. They both knew the answer already.

“Naw, I’m what you’d call unemployed.”

He thought about asking him to elaborate: What exactly do you mean by, unemployed, sir? But that might be overdoing it. White trash will only tolerate so much subtle condescension.

“Would you call Donna unemployed?” Max asked, after collecting pedigree information; Jim’s last name, date of birth, social security number. Max was always surprised when people gave all that to him, especially the social security number.

“No, she works at Macey’s.” That was not to be confused with Macy’s, the retail giant. Macey’s was a chain of convenience stores/gas stations. Joplin had ninety of them or something.

“Is Madolla in her room?”

“No, she sleeps downstairs.”

Max crooked an eye. “Donna or Madolla?”

“Madolla. She’s around the corner, in the kitchen.”

Max stopped writing. “The baby sleeps in the kitchen?” He looked at the entrance to the dining room. Presumably the kitchen was beyond that, behind the stairs.

“The baby keeps us up if she’s in the room.”

“Yeah, they’ll do that.”

Max walked around the corner. The stairs were wooden and covered with peeling brown paint. A few of them were cracked. They ended in a carpeted second floor. The dining room lacked a table, and the kitchen beyond was full of dirty dishes and flies. A few feet from a neglected refrigerator sat a playpen, apparently doing double-duty as a baby bed.

“Let me get Donna’s ass out of bed…”

Unruh stepped in from of Jim as he tried to leave.

“Not just yet.” Max approached the pen. Jim followed, but Unruh stopped him at the dining room entrance.

“I think Donna should be here, I can’t just let anyone see her kid you know—”

“I’m not ‘just anyone’…I work for the State.”

“She’s sleeping.” He seemed to be gauging his chances of darting past Unruh without being tackled…or perhaps his odds of survival if it occurred. He chose the prudent path. “If you wake her up, Donna’ll be pissed. She cries a lot.”

“They’ll do that, too.”

“She was crying for like, hours last night.”

Aside from the slight dirty-diaper smell, Madolla and her pen were clean and well taken care of. The report said she was six months old, but she looked like a newborn. She was lying on her belly, still and peaceful. Max started to smile…

“She was bawling all night, until about four this morning.”

“When was the last time you or Donna checked her?” Max lowered his hand into the pen and pressed his fingers to her little scalp.

“Checked her?”

“To see why she was crying.”

“I turned up the TV and she cried herself out.”

“When?”

“When what?”

“When did she stop crying?”

Jim scratched his scalp through greasy brown hair. “Like three or something. It usually takes longer.”

Max withdrew his hand from the pen and wrote all that down. The tap of pen on paper competed evenly with the soft hum of the refrigerator condenser.

“Officer Unruh, can you call an ambulance please?”

Jim’s eyes widened. “Ambulance?”

Unruh didn’t ask any questions. The distraught look on his face showed he didn’t need to. Unruh stepped away from Jim to the living room and pressed the button on his shoulder communicator.

“Oh, shit… Should I wake Donna?” Jim stepped closer to Max so he didn’t interrupt the stream of ambulance-summoning cop jargon.

“That would be a good idea,” Max kept his voice as flat as possible, but under the circumstances his bile filter was a little taxed.

“Shit! What do I tell her? Is Madolla okay?”

Max turned his eyes to the pen.

“She’s dead.”

How to Research A Sci-Fi Novel

(if You Know Nothing About Robots)

I did a ridiculous amount of research for my second novel, Parched. So much so that when compiling it all for this guest blog post for the Prism book tour, I found myself wondering 1. I am crazy and 2. If knowing it was going to take as much time as it did, if I’d do it all again. (Answers are ‘yes’ and ‘yes’).

My jumping off point for Parched was this: a girl in love with a robot. What did I know about robots? Well, I’d seen Bladerunner a few dozen times…

MY REVIEW

You are gonna love Heath and Ace.

They’ve been best friends ever since Heath met Ace at the hospital. Her mother had died and he reached out to a little girl, looking so lost and alone.

Now, ten years later and almost out of school, they are still best friends. But something is changing. They are becoming aware of each other in a different way. Or is it just that they are tired of fighting something that’s been growing for years.

Do they dare to risk their friendship? You’re not supposed to fall in love with your best friend.

Do you remember your first love? How you couldn’t think of anything but that person? What are they doing right now? Are they thinking of me too? Do they love me as much as I love them?

With Heath and Ace it’s even more intense.

Heath has been there for Ace through thick and thin, always thinking of her first, doing everything he can to make sure she is safe and happy. He melted my heart. His love for Ace was incredible and without question.

Ace knew Heath would always have her back, always be there when she needed him. And she’d always be there for him. I kept hoping she’d make her move. Finally admit her feelings and let love flow.

These two always told each other everything. There were no secrets between them, until now. Until how they felt for each other changed. And when Ace gets some disturbing news, I feared for these two young lovers. If ever two people were meant to be together, it was Heath and Ace.

I kept thinking, don’t you dare. Like the author could hear me and give me the ending I wanted, I demanded. As much as I wanted to know what would happen, I was almost afraid to find out.

Forever kinda love. You see it in the movies. You read about it in books. You hear rumors that it exists. You might even have found it or know someone who did. For those of you who haven’t found it, this book gives you hope.

4 STARS

I’ve read other books by this author and when she asked if I’d like to read Forever Kinda Love I was excited. Her other books were more fantasy, but this would be a romance. I had to give it a go.

Thanks Clara. Love rules!

Title: Summer in New York Collection (A Timeless Romance Anthology)
Authors: Janette Rallison, Heather B. Moore, Luisa Perkins, Sarah M. Eden, Annette Lyon, and Lisa Mangum
Date of Publication: July 15, 2014
Genre: contemporary romance
.
In USA Today bestselling author Janette Rallison’s delightful novella, JOB HAZARDS, Lydia Robinson is posing as a prostitute. Undercover of course. Lydia’s job as a police officer hasn’t reeled in her prince charming yet. That is, until Harrison Aldridge, old high school flame, pulls up to the corner to rescue the fallen damsel. Lydia can’t exactly give Harrison the truth without blowing her cover, and it takes a series of mishaps and another whole set of misunderstandings before Lydia will even consider letting Harrison back into her life.
.
In Heather B. Moore’s enchanting novella, A TASTE OF SUN, Winona Grant embarks on a summer-long visit to NYC to house-sit for her great-aunt after a nasty break-up with her boyfriend Paul. But when her aunt commissions neighbor Steve Monti to tour Winona around, they strike a deal. Winona has too many deadlines to play tourist, and Steve is looking for a distraction from his looming gallery opening. So Steve goes on the tours by himself, and Winona reports back to her aunt as if she’d gone too. The longer this happens, the more Winona wants to change her mind. Seeing the city with Steve might be the perfect solution to forgetting about Paul.
.
In Luisa Perkins’s sweet romance novella, DULCE DE LECHE, Marisol is desperate for another nanny job after being unfairly fired from her previous position. She has only two more semesters of college, but she’s too proud to ask her wealthy parents for financial help. When her potential new employer, a single father working long hours as an anesthesiologist, decides she’s too young and pretty to hire, she practically begs him for the job. Darius finally agrees, and as he watches her work miracles with his Asperger’s son, he realizes there is much more to Marisol than he first believed.
.
In TAKE A CHANCE, a captivating story by Sarah M. Eden, Miguel Santos has a stopover in New York. When the announcement of delayed flights comes over the PA system, Miguel is looking at spending several hours at the airport. Determined to get comfortable for the long wait, he’s surprised when he spies a familiar face amongst the stranded passengers: Jane Schoonenburg, the last person he expected to see. Three months have passed since he asked Jane to marry him—three months of misery. And now he knows that he must talk to her, if only to find out why she broke his heart.
.
Annette Lyon’s entrancing novella, FIRSTS AND LASTS, begins with Dani’s last week in New York. She’s failed in her dreams to catch a break as an actress and is now ready to return home and dust herself off. As she visits the places on her final to-see list, she meets Mark, another New York City transplant with big dreams. Except Mark hasn’t given up on his. As they spend the day together, Dani realizes that even though she hasn’t hit the “big time” she might be living her dream after all. Only problem: she has a one-way ticket back home.
.
In Lisa Mangum’s whimsically titled story: &, Lucy is riding a wave of success at having found a bestselling novel in the slush pile at an exclusive New York publishing house. If only her personal life was storybook perfect as well. Her relationship with Devon is on the rocks, and even though she’s been put in charge of the house while her boss is gone on business, Lucy isn’t sure she’s up to the task. It will take a chance encounter with a handsome wordsmith to help Lucy claim the courage that has always been a part of her heart.
.
Enjoy this peek inside the collection.

Firsts and Lasts

Annette Lyon

Dani stood on the sidewalk, looking up the grand staircase outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Although she’d seen the building several times during her six months in Manhattan, she’d never really stopped to look at it, and she’d never been inside.

People rushed past her as they went their different ways up and down Fifth Avenue. She could easily identify the residents over the tourists. Real New Yorkers moved with a quick, no-nonsense stride. Businesswomen in dress pants and jackets often walked in sneakers. Dani had learned that they kept high heels in their purses or at the office to switch into after they got to work. She could hear the whoosh and honks of traffic behind her.

Several strollers passed, making Dani step out of the way. Some were pushed by mothers, others by nannies. Dani glanced at a pair of women pushing strollers with toddlers about the same age. They chatted and laughed – and looked completely at home.

Virtual Book Tour Dates: 7/16/14 – 8/13/14

I have a fun post to share with you today. The author has written an interesting guest post about her characters, I have a fun excerpt for you, and there’s a great giveaway, so don’t forget to enter!

~~~~
 Rayne Rachels shares with us about writing her characters
Sometimes the characters I create are difficult to write. They refuse to work with the plot I have created, or for some reason, I can’t stand them and want to kill them off so I don’t have to deal with them anymore. But then, there are a lot of characters I have created that I really like and enjoy writing about them and their adventures.
Ember Winterstone in Reluctantly Undead was one of those characters who was really fun to write. This was the first time I have written a story in first person, but it gave me the opportunity to explore Ember and her world through her eyes, which I didn’t have with Queen Zophia, the psycho vampire. I only saw Zophia through Ember’s eyes.
Ember has a lot of issues. She deals with her weight. Being a size 16 is not easy. When she gets stressed, Ember eats chocolate which, of course, is not a good thing for the weight issue. How many of us deal with this same issue? My hand is up.
Ember also has a crazy stepdad and an even weirder stepbrother. She tends to be stubborn and sometimes mouthy, but that is part of her charm.
And then she is bitten by a vampire and left for dead.
According to Ember, being a vampire sucks because somehow she managed to totally screw up the whole transformation process. She has the fangs and the desire for blood, but she can walk around in the sunlight as long as she has her trusty sunglasses on, and she still eats food, especially chocolate. How cool to be a vampire, but not have to give up chili-cheese fries or chocolate milkshakes!
It was fun following Ember as she discovered what being a vampire really was, her strange heritage her mom kept hidden from her, and figuring out what really mattered.
Honestly, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Ember.
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Blurb:
Ember Winterstone is not having a good night. She wakes up in a dumpster. Her neck hurts where her date used her as a meal. Vampire hunters chase her, and the other vampires think she is the real queen, especially since she is a day walker, eats food, drinks almost no blood, and stands up to Zophia, the psycho vampire queen.
Ember’s problems have just begun.
Her mother has kept a couple of major secrets from her, the two men who make Ember drool refuse to claim her, and the psycho vampire queen decides Ember must die.
Excerpt:
I looked around.
My brain started functioning, and it dawned on me.
I was in a dumpster—a stinking, nasty, filthy, rotting trash-filled dumpster!
I couldn’t believe it. I mean, how did I get in here? I didn’t exactly climb in willingly. I can’t even stand opening the large green trash can when I take out the trash at home. The smell—especially in summer—is enough to gag a maggot! My climbing into the dumpster on my own was off the list of possibilities.
I sniffed and looked down.
My jeans!
There was no way I was going to get the ode de trashcan funk out of my jeans.
I groaned.
I just bought them, and they fit good…really good! It’s not easy finding jeans to fit a size 16 frame, especially with a butt like mine.
I was pissed.
Someone was going to pay for them, just as soon as I figured a way out of the gross, over-sized tin can in which I was buried.
Glancing around, I sighed. The dumpster was only half-full, so getting out probably wasn’t going to be easy.
Pulling myself into a sitting position was an act of Congress, but standing? That had me clueless.
I pushed and shoved stuff out of my way. I started to groan when I heard a sound. At least, I thought I heard something. I got really still and waited.
Nothing.
I started to take to move again.
“Are you sure she’s dead?”
I froze.
“Yeah, I’m sure,” replied a second male voice.
What the hell, my eyes widened and my heart pounded against my rib cage.
“It just sounds strange that she died like that. Maybe she just fainted,” suggested the first voice.
“She was dead. I waited an hour. No pulse. No heartbeat. She was dead. I tossed her into the dumpster.”
Purr fect mating M Blog Tour Button1
I originally joined the tour because I loved the cover art for Sheryl Winters’ new release Purr-fect Mating and the title was quirky fun.
Then I read the blurb and had to know more.
So, I’ve included my review and hope you enjoy it.
Title: Purr-fect Mating (A Lil Genie Series Novella)
Author: Sheryl Winters
Publisher: Roane Publishing
Release Date: June 23, 2014
Keywords: Paranormal, Romance, Shifters
My Review
At around 50 pages, I breezed through this in about 20 minutes.  You might think that’s not long enough to develop genuine characters and a good plot. But the author pulled it off splendidly.
From the moment Fhina discovered a naked man in her front yard I was hooked and from then on it was pure fun.
You have to keep in mind that these characters are not human, they are shifters. And the town is no ordinary town, it’s filled with supernatural beings, including some flighty witches.
When Wulfar and Fhina match gazes, they are bound. They’re soul mates. And things move quickly. The morning after their wedding, Fhina wakes up to a note from her absent groom, telling her to take care of his dog.
You’d think Fhina would fall apart, but she picks herself up and soldiers on.
Wulfar is in no position to tell his new bride where he is. All he can do is watch as the now pregnant Fhina tries to remember her missing husband and prepares for her new arrival.
This was fun from the first page to the last.
You might think Fhina is dumb. Why can’t she even remember who her husband is? Doesn’t she wonder why he left his dog? She’s under a curse, that’s why.
Her family is supportive and quick to help Fhina, but they can’t break the curse. Neither can the creepy witches she turns to for help. I wouldn’t trust them.
When Fhina tries to use a spell, it backfires, leaving her with an unwanted wing to get rid of. Poor girl. She really has no clue.
And poor Wulfar. No way to communicate with Fhina. Unable to be there for her as her due date nears. Fighting his shifter instincts to go run with the pack.
The dilemma for these two had me laughing out loud. What are they to do?
I knew the curse would be broken. I just didn’t know how. And I had a fun time finding out.
Once you start reading this story, you’ll get why the author chose the title.
A quickie romance with hilarious repercussions, Purr-fect Mating left a big impression.
5 Stars
~~~

Blurb:

On their wedding night, at the stroke of midnight, Wulfar changes into his shifted wolf form and cannot shift back. Not even to communicate with the woman he loves.   Fhina, upon waking the day after their mating, no longer recognizes her mate. Pregnant and confused, she’s convinced herself her mate has run away and left her to live alone. With his dog.   Can the cursed pair find a counter charm before Fhina gives birth? Will Wulfar be able to curb his inclination to run?   Or will their mutual curses break up their love affair before it’s really even started.

Enjoy my character interview with Fhina and Wulfar!

Hi Fhina and Wulfar. Please make yourselves comfortable. I’ll try to make this fun and painless. Shall we begin?

My first question is for Fhina.

What was your first thought when you met Wulfar?

I thought he was a tall drink of deliciousness.

When you woke up and Wulfar was gone and all there was, was a strange dog, did you believe Wulfar had just up and left or did you think something bad had happened to him?

I truly thought he left me. I remember being so upset, so nervous and then well, when I found out I was pregnant I was a little past miffed.

I’m trying to imagine what it must have been like to wake up and find you’re no longer yourself. What was your first thought and I’m curious about if it was hard to adjust to being a 4-legged creature. Was the stuff like walking, or, pardon me, going to the bathroom hard to navigate or was it second nature?

Laura, if I can be blunt. I’m a wolf shifter so my second form comes quite naturally for me. As to body functions? I’ve always thought that females make a little more out of it than it is. I am after all a male I’ve never had a problem with bathroom functions.

What he’s saying, Laura is that he has no problem peeing outside.” Fhina whispers.

Fhina, when Wulfar vanished and you’re left with this dog, did you immediately think there was something different about it, or did you accept it as an ordinary dog?

I was so confused and then there was that fact that Wulfy, excuse me,” Fhina giggles, “My Wulfar makes such a beautiful dog.”

Honestly, Fhina,” Wulfar snorts.

Well you do. But to answer your question. I accepted him as an ordinary dog. I was after all cursed.”

Wulfar, so you’re stuck in wolf form. Which was harder. Trying to communicate to Fhina or resisting the call of the wolf?

Truthfully it was the begging for food that got me. It might come naturally for dogs but as an Alpha wolf I had a hard time with it. In my wolf form I’m more than capable of taking down a deer but the constant grovelling for food was very wearying.”

Thanks so much for being such fun to interview Fhina and Wulfar I hope we can chat again sometime.

Oh, I almost forgot one last question. This ones for both of you.

Are either of you wanting to get a dog now?

I think the twins are more than enough challenge for us.” Wulfar laughs heartily. He’s bouncing Colton on his knee pushing the baby carriage with Angel sound asleep in it.

I think perhaps later on.” Fhina pats her stomach a mysterious smile on her face.

“Amber!” My eyes snapped open and I looked around wildly. Cold sweat beaded my forehead and my hands were shaking. My wooden leg wasn’t next to me but my sister and Jacob were. Jacob held crutches and handed them to me as our eyes met.

“Thanks,” I muttered, forgetting for a moment that I didn’t like him. “Why are you screaming at me?”

“Because you were screaming yourself,” Rebecca said. “You must have fallen asleep and you started crying out.” I sat up straighter. Not this again I thought. The doctor said the pills would take care of it.

“How bad?” I asked. “What did I say?”

“I couldn’t understand you,” Rebecca admitted. “But it sounded pretty bad. Is everything okay?”

“It’s fine,” I said sharply. There was no way that I was going to tell Rebecca about the dream. “I’m fine.”

“There’s no reason to be so angry Amber,” Jacob said. “Your sister is just trying to help.”

“I said I’m fine,” I snapped. “She’s not trying to help as much as trying to get on our father’s good side. She was always the goody two shoes…daddy’s little princess. If her perfect reputation wasn’t at stake, she wouldn’t give a damn about me.”
