By Sherri Shackelford

We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops
you can see snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:

Launch – Note from the Author

Welcome to this blog tour! I’m excited to share the journey with you. My latest release is near and dear to my heart because this book starts a new adventure for me…

The Power of Words – Guest Post

Forensic Accounting
“Follow the Money”

Accounting might not seem dangerous, but hiding money is integral to nefarious activities. In the opening scene of Jack Ryan on Amazon, Jack is seen tracing the financial dealings of a suspected terrorist. What Jack discovers leads him on a harrowing adventure to the Middle East, but the spark of his investigation was a rather mundane series of financial transfers…

Splashes of Joy – Review

“I thoroughly enjoyed “No Safe Place” by Sherri Shakelford! I love fast pace detective stories and this one kept me on the edge of my to seat the entire time I was reading it. In fact, I read this one in one setting! . . . “No Safe Place” will take you on a wild and scary journey, through more horrific scenes than you want to think about, but in the end, it will leave you thinking about this book and the characters long after you finish reading.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

Her heart racing, Beth took the stairs two at a time and pushed open the door to the parking garage. Only a couple other cars remained. Keeping her back straight and her gait purposeful, she crossed the distance.

The sound of her heels striking the concrete echoed through the cavernous, empty space. Pausing beside the car, she dug in her purse for her keys. Normally she kept them at the ready when exiting a parking garage. Corbin’s unexpected appearance upstairs had distracted her.

As she fumbled with her purse, she dropped the bag. “Calm down, Beth.”

Jorie Loves A Story – Review

“In my experience, this particular imprint is notorious for grabbing you by the throat straight-off the first page and never quite letting you feel released til you conclude the story! No Safe Place accomplishes this. . . . Ms Shackelford has a knack for Contemporary drama – she alights you inside her scenes with a certain kind of polish and flair for understanding the ready details you need to see in a scene to know its the modern era. . . I love finding Contemporary authors who are in-tune with this modern era and who can write realistic impressions of the people any of us could meet on the street.”

Colorimetry – Guest Post

Homeland Security

The details are sketchy, and the government has been tight-lipped, but various reports have concluded that the worst cyberattack in US history started in a cybercafe in Afghanistan. An American Pentagon worker (presumably), using the internet services of a foreign café, picked up a ‘cyber worm’ on his computer. He then transferred data from the infected computer to a thumb drive. The virus hitched a ride. When that same thumb drive was plugged into the Pentagon computer system, the worm went wild…

Rockin’ Book Reviews – Review

“This is an action packed, suspenseful, romance novel you will not want to miss! . . . Each chapter leaves the reader anxious to discover, “What happens next?” . . . The characters seemed very real, and the scenes were well described so the reader felt he/she was a part of them.”

Simply Kelina – Review

“I really enjoyed the writing style. This is not the first book written by the author, but it is the first within the suspense genre. I would not have known this while I was reading. I think she did a great job with the pacing and thrilling aspects of the story.”

Labor Not in Vain – Review

“Great tension between the characters, and a well paced plot, there is a lot going on. I liked the complexity of the plot perfect within this format, it fit well and kept me hooked, there was a lot going on but I never got lost. A book well worth reading, and great first foray into suspense for Ms. Shackelford!”

By The Book – Review

“If you are looking for an adrenaline-laced, romantic suspense to start off your reading new year, then you need to check out No Safe Place by Sherri Shackelford! This book has it all — engaging characters, danger and intrigue aplenty, and romantic sparks. . . . All in all this book would be a great companion for a weekend getaway or staycation. Suspense and HEA — what are you waiting for!”

Wishful Endings – Guest Post

My Favorite Suspense Books

Like many people, I got hooked on romantic suspense after reading the classic, Rebecca by Daphne DuMauier. Lately, I’ve been addicted to the Orphan X series by Gregg Hurwitz. Another favorite is Alex Kava, whose first book was set near where I live. The latest book I read was The Far Empty, by Scott J. Todd…

Heidi Reads… – Review

“This is my kind of suspense book. Not so intense that I’m biting off all my nails and can’t go to sleep, but engaging and compelling and has me turning the pages to see what happens next. . . . This is a story that I didn’t want to put down and felt that great feeling of satisfaction as I finished. Highly recommend to fans of light romantic suspense!”

Faithfully Bookish – Guest Post

Tips on Hiding

When I bought the book, Playing Dead: A Journey Through the World of Death Fraud, my husband was a little worried. The book was written by Elizabeth Greenwood, and I used her name as the inspiration for my heroine, Beth Greenwood.

The book is a fascinating look into the underground world of ‘making people disappear.’ Believe it or not, there’s an entire underground industry dedicated to helping people fake their death—should the need arise…

Locks, Hooks and Books – Review

“I enjoyed No Safe Place. . . . Beth and Corbin’s story was one that kept me on the edge of my seat. I never knew where they would end up. I could not put the book down until the end.”

Among the Reads – Review & Interview

“Sprinkling just enough wit throughout the story to keep it from being overly suspenseful, author Sherri Shackelford has Corbin and Beth fleeing from one place to another in an attempt to elude their pursuers. . . . Readers who enjoy authors such as Dana Mentink and Tanya Stowe are bound to enjoy this one as well. . . . I want to be sure to read more books by this author!”

Can you tell us a little about what inspired No Safe Place?

I really enjoy stories about regular people who are forced into extraordinary circumstances. I liked the idea of someone with a very ho-hum job in a boring office building who is thrown into incredible danger. I also like stories where people are ‘on the run’.

Book by Book – Review

“No Safe Place by Sherri Shackelford gives readers a quick, suspenseful (and romantic!) read, and I quite enjoyed it. . . . I recommend adding it to your TBR today!”

The Becca Files – Review

“Fast paced with plenty of action, No Safe Place was a rather quick read for me. I finished the whole book in just two sittings and in less than a day. It quickly grasped my attention and held me until the end. . . . I’d easily recommend it to fans of suspense.”

EmpowerMoms – Review

“I absolutely loved it! . . . Great characters, great story line, clean romance. I highly recommend reading this suspenseful, action packed book! I read it in one night because I couldn’t put it down-it was awesome! I can’t wait to read more books by this author.”

The Barefoot Reader – Excerpt

The accountant was running. Innocent people didn’t run. She’d been Corbin’s first suspect since her name had come up in the previous audit. Didn’t help that she’d spent the past week behaving like a textbook example of a guilty person. She was edgy and jumpy—rarely leaving her desk—even for meals. She didn’t want anyone messing with her computer. She didn’t want anyone to know what she was doing. Innocent people had nothing to hide.

Strike one.

Corbin pushed open the door to the garage, and his blood froze.

Author Loraine D. Nunley – Review

“I loved the page turning suspense and the push-pull of the romance. . . . This was a fast paced suspense with a good romance topped with relatable characters.”

Tell Tale Book Reviews – Review

“Sherri Shackelford delivers up non-stop adventure and suspense in a race for survival that crosses state lines. . . . I really enjoyed this book and I am definitely looking forward to more exciting romantic suspense from this talented author.”

Harlie’s Books – Excerpt & Review

There was a bullet hole in the hood of his car, and the woman sitting next to him had become a liability to a terrorist cell laundering money. Corbin didn’t know the extent of her knowledge, and he wasn’t letting her out of his sight.

She raised the canister once more. “All right. But I have the pepper spray, remember?”

“I’m not likely to forget.” That stuff was potent. Residue had both their eyes watering in the confined space of the car. “I don’t mean to be rude, but I did save your life. A simple ‘thank you’ would suffice.”

“Corbin is a dream. He is definitely going on the book boyfriend shelf for me. . . . Beth is just one of those heroines that you truly root for in a book. . . . The plot itself is [relevant], very fast paced (love), realistic and interesting. Yes, interesting. . . . I really loved this book. Corbin and Beth stole my heart and I have a new author to read from a beloved Harlequin line.”

Two Girls and a Book – Review

“No Safe Place is a fast past and well written book. From beginning to end I found myself completely caught up in the lives of Beth Greenwood and Corbin Ross. . . . I thought this book had the perfect amount of suspense, well-developed characters and most important, a surprise and oh so sweet sending.”

Min Reads and Reviews – Excerpt

Beth shut the train’s inner door and tugged the curtains over the square window of her private roomette—a tiny space featuring two facing seats and an overhead bunk that pulled down. The wheels finally chugged, and the train lurched. She exhaled her pent-up breath. As the station faded into the distance, her pulse gradually slowed to a normal rhythm.

An hour into the trip, she almost felt as though she could breathe normally again.

A knock on the door sent her heart leaping into her throat.

Remembrancy – Review

“Shackelford maintains a perfect balance of intense action and personal moments between Corbin and Beth, making their building attraction natural and authentic. . . . Corbin and Beth are people of faith with an inner strength that makes them do the right thing no matter the personal cost which had me rooting for them from the get-go. . . . I hope to see more romantic suspense reads from Shackelford in the (near) future.”

Moon Games

Moon Games

My Review

Right from the beginning Miranda had me going in circles. She’s disorganized and going in several directions at once. This is why I keep lists. LOL And like her, I work more than one job. This all helped me to connect with her quickly and I had some laughs as she would her way through this mystery.

About the mystery. At first I was confused, not sure just what was occurring. Then, things started coming together and making sense, the suspense ramped up,  some surprise twists were dropped on me and the mystery became something I had to solve. Wish I could have been there with Miranda. I could see us having some laughs, throwing our hands up in exasperation and putting our heads together to sort things out.

I’m always a bit worried when I try a new author. Will I like their writing? Will their characters be genuine and will I be able to connect with them? Will I enjoy the plot? Shelly Frome fairly quickly put my worries to rest and I had fun reading Moon Games. He’s now on my to read again author’s list.

Synopsis

At the outset, Miranda Davis has nothing much going for her. The tourists are long gone by October in the quaint Carolina town of Black Mountain, her realty business is at a standstill, and her weekend stint managing the local tavern offers little to pull her out of the doldrums. When prominent church lady Cloris Raintree offers a stipend to look into the whereabouts of a missing girl hiker on the Q.T, Miranda, along with her partner Harry (an unemployed features writer) agree.

But then it all backfires. A burly figure shambles down a mountain slope with a semi-conscious girl draped over his shoulder. Miranda’s attempts to uncover Cloris Raintree’s true motives become near impossible as she puts up one smokescreen after another, including a slip of the tongue regarding an incident in Havana. The local police keep stonewalling and Harry is of little help.

Tarot cards left on Cloris’ doorstep and arcane prompts on her e-mail only exacerbate the situation. Growing more desperate over the captive girl’s fate, Miranda comes across a link to a cold case of arson and murder. With the advent of the dark of the moon, she is summoned to “Tower Time” as this twisty tale continues to run its course.

Issaura’s Claws
The Incarn Saga Book 1
by Katharine E. Wibell
Genre:  YA Fantasy

According to legend, when the world was young, the goddess Issaura appeared
among men. Those who treated her with kindness received the gift of
the gods—the ability to transform into an animal form. This was a
great honor but one that separated this race from other humans.
Before Issaura departed the mortal realm, she promised to return if
her people were ever at the point of destruction.
Now a threat is rising from a land across the mists of the ocean, a
threat that will push this race to the brink of extinction.
Responding to the call to war, seventeen-year-old Lluava heads off to
find her destiny, one that will carve her name in history.”
The Kingdom of Elysia consists of two races: the dominant race of humans
and the native race of Theriomorphs who can shift into animal form.
Although law dictates equal treatment, they neither like nor trust
each other. Now brutal and ruthless Raiders are approaching; there is
only one chance to defeat them. An army must be raised and trained.
An army where each human will be paired with a Theriomorph partner.
An army that must fight as one to defeat their common enemy.
Women are not warriors. However, Lluava is not like other women – human
or Theriomorph. Her animal form is a magnificent beast whose power
and fury she must learn to control. Although Lluava endures intense
physical training and strives to overcome the doubts of the male
recruits, she faces an unexpected adversary in the commanding general
who seeks to break both her spirit and her body.
At the paring ceremony, Lluava is humbled when presented with a unique
and ancient weapon. Yet she becomes distraught and angry when her
human partner is revealed. If they fail to trust each other, the
consequences will be devastating. Death and destruction are on the
horizon and time is running out.
The Incarn Saga is a young adult fantasy series inspired by ancient
myths, filled with fast-paced action and adventure, and enriched by
an understanding of animal behavior that defines the shape-shifting
Theriomorphs.

Ullr’s Fangs
The Incarn Saga Book 2

“According to legend, when the world was young, two gods of war — one male,
one female — were destined for each other. Yet Ullr, forever
unfaithful, lost the love of Issaura, his true match, and was
forsworn. His violent anger and bitter rage grew and intensified,
poisoning all creation and humanity.
Now that the Raiders’ long ships have faded from sight, the kingdom of
Elysia is beginning to recover from the summer’s war with the
brutal invaders from across the sea. Yet darker forces have taken
root, forces that can alter the future of the land and its people in
unthinkable ways. Seventeen-year-old Lluava must discover the means
to prevent her world from collapsing. But in doing so, will she
succumb to that darkness?”

Crocotta’s Hackles
The Incarn Saga Book 3

According to legend, when the world was young, Crocotta, Queen of the Gods,
discovered her mate’s faithlessness. She vowed to prevent future
threats to all matrimonial pacts henceforward, but for her it was too
late. The child born from the illicit coupling was a warrior
goddess—one whom Crocotta would seek to destroy throughout eternity.
Now that the Raiders’ elite army is threatening the kingdom of Elysia’s
northern borders, seventeen-year-old Lluava must leave the
familiarity and safety of her native land to venture into the
wilderness. Her mission is to discover others like her who will come
to Elysia’s aid; her hope is to unravel the secrets behind what it
means to be Incarn. But what she finds could destroy everything.”
Lluava’s story continues in Crocotta’s Hackles, the third book in The Incarn
Saga’s award-winning new-adult series.

Katharine Wibell’s lifelong interest in mythology includes epic poetry like
the Odyssey, Ramayana, Beowulf, and the Nibelungenlied. In addition,
she is interested in all things animal whether training dogs,
apprenticing at a children’s zoo, or caring for injured animals as
a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. After receiving degrees from
Mercer University in both art and psychology with an emphasis in
animal behavior, Wibell moved to New Orleans with her dog, Alli, to
kick start her career as an artist and a writer. Her first literary
works blend her knowledge of the animal world with the world of high fantasy.

Some chit chat.

Well. I returned to work this week and it went pretty smooth. Not too busy and I fell right back into the swing of it. I have a very physical job and I sure needed that exercise. I’d been quite lazy for the two weeks I was off.

I’m off to a good start with my reading. Been doing a lot of it and so far I’ve enjoyed every book. Been reading a lot of mysteries and suspense. That happens once in a while. I start a genre and then read until I need to switch to something else. I am starting to feel a call to return to some horror now. I sure have some good reads waiting.

Other than that, not much new. My son and I have started taking walks together. The sun has been shining and it’s been warm so we have the spring fever thing going on. My dog Quigley wants to go with us but he is old and can’t go far so I usually take him by myself.

Almost forgot. I was out cleaning fallen branches from along my fence line and I heard this loud snort. I looked up and there was a buck standing right on the other side of the fence. He wasn’t scared of me at all. In fact, he snorted and shook his rack at me. LOL I know they are randy right now with the rut in season so I froze and waited for him to move off. I could envision him leaping over the fence and chasing me into the house. LOL

Rideshares, Wrecks, and Sex:
Confessions of a Convicted Uber Driver
by Joe F. N. Schmo
Genre: Comedic Adventure

An Uber driver is expected to be courteous and attentive, both to their
passengers and to those on the road. They are not expected to accept
an invitation to a swinger party, flee the scene of a fatal accident,
nor are they expected to be a convicted felon on probation.
Unfortunately,
this Joe Schmo is not your everyday Uber driver.
As most Uber drivers do, Joe began sharing rides with the audacious hope
to one day escape the legal and financial road blocks stalling his
merger onto the freeway of creative success. But when a typical shift
U-turns into a series of detours involving Android ordered lovers,
herpes ridden riders, sexy sorority sisters, a botched bachelor
party, and blundering bank robbers, he arrives (at gunpoint) miles
from his desired destination.
“Rideshares, Wrecks, and Sex: Confessions of a Convicted Uber Driver” is a
narrative nonfiction based upon actual events that transpired over
the year Joe covertly drove for Uber while on intensive probation. He
confesses outlandish details in a highlight reel of wrecks (both car
and train) and sex, effectively answering the question every Uber
rider has begged to know from their driver: “What’s your
craziest story?”

Joe F. N. Schmo, a 30-something latent child prodigy, is on a quest to
obtain free Rockstar for life and plans to use it to obtain his Ph.D
in Upsetting the Status Quo. Once earned, he hopes to use his written
works as a vehicle to turn underinformed perceptions on their thick
skulls (among other abhorrently selfish goals).
After completing over 1,000 rideshares for Uber while on intensive
probation, Joe has encountered it all (save for alien abductions and
spontaneous combustion) and is über qualified to write a
confessional with such a titilating title.
Prior to his salacious adventures, Joe earned his B.A. in Film and Media
Production where he wrote, produced, directed, and edited several
short films. This experience sculpted him into the kind of asshole
who quotes from random films and includes obscure pop culture
references into his written works.
Joe’s masterpiece, “Rideshares, Wrecks, and Sex: Confessions of a
Convicted Uber Driver” is a culmination of his of film
background, sharing rides with Uber, and myriad adverse experiences.
It was NOT written to please those stiff, literary types, but to
appeal to the haughty neophytes who attest e-books are superior to
the printed page.
Currently, Joe is working on his encore, “Jackpot,” which, much like
“Rideshares, Wrecks, and Sex, was written with the intention to
be adapted into a feature film (as it is his narcissistic goal to
direct his own film adaptations).

Ancient Enemy
Ancient Enemy Series Book 1
by Mark Lukens
Genre: Horror

Ancient Enemy – it wants things . . . you have to give it what it wants.
Seven hundred years ago the Anasazi people built massive cities in what is
now the southwestern United States . . . and then they vanished.
Stella, an archaeologist specializing in Anasazi culture, and David, a
mysterious Navajo boy, are on the run from something terrifying. As
they flee up into the snowy mountains of Colorado, they are carjacked
by criminals escaping a botched bank robbery. Caught in a blizzard,
they must take refuge in what they believe is an abandoned cabin.
It’s at this cabin where they will face horrors beyond their imagination.

Darkwind
Ancient Enemy Series Book 2

After a rancher finds ten mutilated bodies at a dig site on the Navajo
Reservation, both Captain Begay of the Navajo Tribal Police and
Special Agent Palmer of the FBI become involved … but the case
leads Palmer back up to Colorado where five more mutilated bodies and
Stella’s vehicle have been discovered at a burning cabin.
Cole, Stella, and David escape the cabin on a snowmobile, heading south to
get David back down to the Navajo lands. Now that Stella believes
that David is a natural-born shaman, she knows that their only hope
of David ever defeating the Ancient Enemy is to find a reclusive
shaman named Joe Blackhorn who can help train David.
But with Agent Palmer and Captain Begay hot on their trail, Cole and
Stella must find Joe Blackhorn and the secrets he possesses before
the Ancient Enemy destroys them all.

Hope’s End
Ancient Enemy Series Book 3

In 1891, in the badlands of northern Arizona, Jed Cartwright, a bounty
hunter and U.S. Marshal, transports a dangerous prisoner back to the
town of Smith Junction. As they travel through the woods, they are
attacked by what they believe are skinwalkers.
As Jed flees the woods, he finds a house where a family has been
slaughtered – the only survivor is an eight-year-old Navajo boy, a
boy traumatized by the horrors he has seen.
As Jed and the Navajo boy make their way north to Smith Junction, a
sudden sandstorm diverts them to the small town of Hope’s End. They
take refuge from the storm in the saloon with some of the
townspeople. But hours later, when the storm is over, they discover
what has happened to the rest of the people in Hope’s End . . . and
the terror is only beginning, everything leading up to a shocking
twist at the end.

Evil Spirits
Ancient Enemy Series Book 4

It has been seven years since David sent the Ancient Enemy back to its
world in the ghost town that was once the town of Hope’s End.
Cole and Stella have lived in Costa Rica for the last seven years. They
wanted to believe that it was really over . . . but there were always
doubts. And when Stella sees a horrifying vision in the jungle, she’s
certain that the Ancient Enemy has returned.
David, living at his aunt’s house in New Mexico, knows the Ancient Enemy is
back; he can feel it. And now nightmares about a serial killer
possessed by the Ancient Enemy plague him, a killer who will stop at
nothing, a killer who is coming for David. With Joe Blackhorn dead
now, the only person David can turn to is Begay, the former captain
of the Navajo Tribal Police.
Former FBI agent Palmer’s nightmares have returned, and when he’s called in
as a consultant on the recent copycat murders – re-creations of the
massacre at the archaeological dig site seven years ago – he knows
that the ancient evil is back.
Together, they are drawn into one last stand against the Ancient Enemy . . .
but this time the battle will be fought in the Ancient Enemy’s world.

Mark Lukens has been writing since the second grade when his teacher
called his parents in for a conference because the ghost story he’d
written had her a little concerned.
Since then he’s had several stories published and four screenplays optioned
by producers in Hollywood. One script is in development to be
produced. He is the author of many bestselling books including:
Ancient Enemy, Darkwind: Ancient Enemy 2, Descendants of Magic, The
Summoning, Night Terrors, Sightings, The Exorcist’s Apprentice, What
Lies Below, Devil’s Island, The Darwin Effect, Ghost Town: a novella,
and A Dark Collection: 12 Scary Stories. He is a member of The Horror
Writers Association.
He grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida. But after many travels and
adventures, he settled down near Tampa, Florida with his wonderful
wife and son … and a stray cat they adopted.
