                 “The scroll chose you. For whatever reason, she’s your reap.”

                “Well, that sucks.” Leila chewed her  bottom lip. “If I don’t do it?”

                Edon hesitated before he said, “Her  soul will rot inside her body. Do you have any idea what that’s like? She’ll be  a living corpse, a shell of a person. She won’t feel anything including love. We  as reapers, the undead, feel more than she ever will alive.”

                Leila swallowed the lump in her  throat. “How do you know that?”

                “Because I’ve seen what it does to a  person,” Edon said. “That little girl deserves better.”

NOIFS Tour Button

I really wanted to finish this book before the tour so I could do my review. I just couldn’t rush through it though. I’m having so much fun.

From the beginning I was liking Mia and ‘aawing’ about the shy little bear cub. Then this big dude huffs and puffs and about breaks her door down demanding she give him the cub.

Mia won me over. She stood there, looking up, up, up at this huge dude, and didn’t flinch when she lied. LOL

Gotta love her.

I’m taking my time finishing this book. Too fun to rush it!

ISBN: 9781311709158

Synopsis

The first day of Mia’s new life in Grayslake, Georgia is not going as planned. The house her grandfather left her looks ready to crumble, boxes cover every inch of the floor and—oh—there’s a bear cub in her pantry. It gets worse when the cub’s uncle comes by and busts out his fur and claws while on her front porch. Then it gets loads better because suddenly there’s a hot hunk of badge-wearing werebear on her lawn ready to rescue her. Yum. Of course, he has to ruin things by trying to take the cub out of her hands. Ha! The cub is hers… No ifs, ands, or bears about it.

Werebear Ty can’t seem to get the curvaceous, delectable Mia to understand that, even if she is one-quarter werebear, she isn’t keeping the cub. Ty is the Grayslake Itan, the clan’s leader, and the little werebear is going home with him… Unless it isn’t. It’s her smile. If she’d stop smiling and being gorgeous, his inner-bear would support him and Ty would get his way. But the beast wants to make their woman happy, so it’s perfectly content to let her do as she pleases. Then things change. Threats arise, danger comes close, and Ty demands she return to his den. No ifs, ands, or mates about that.

The Wind Whisperer by Krista Holle is now on tour! Check out every stop and join the special, HUGE International giveaway running here and on each tour stop!

The Wind Whisperer

1771e-addtogoodreadsblack

Synopsis

At fifteen, Anaii is the most important member of her tribe—and the most mysterious. Ever since Anaii can remember, the spirits of the wind have whispered of fertile hunting grounds and imminent enemy attacks. But when her people are ambushed by a brother clan without any apparent cause, the spirits remain eerily silent.

As the village prepares to retaliate, Anaii is pressured by her best friend, Elan, to marry him. It’s an old plea—Elan has spent a lifetime loving her, but Anaii only sees a childhood playmate out of an imposing warrior. Stifled by Elan’s insistence, Anaii escapes into the forest where she meets Jayttin, the beautiful son of the enemy chief.

Enamored by Jayttin’s carefree spirit and hope for peace, she repeatedly sneaks away to be with him, but when her deception is discovered, Elan is devastated. Pledging his lifelong affection, Elan gives her a passionate kiss, and Anaii begins to see her friend in a new light.

While Anaii is tormented over which man she must choose, the wind whispers of a new threat that could destroy both tribes. Only a union will afford a chance at survival, but the reality of that union is based on one thing—which man Anaii chooses to die.

Enjoy this peek inside!

I looked around cautiously before freezing at the sketchy outline of a muscular man partially hidden in the grass.  A man!  He was sprawled on his back and golden pink from too many hours in the sun.  My heart pounded to see the unfamiliar pattern of a deer on his breechcloth.  I had marched myself directly into the reach of a Zennite warrior!

I gingerly took a step backwards, but to my horror, the man’s black eyes fluttered open.  I turned and hurled myself back across the meadow, just as the man shot up and flew after me like a predatory bird.  My muscles burned and strained to lengthen the space between us, but getting away was hopeless.  I was not a challenge to even the young boys in the foot races.

After a few powerful strides, the warrior tackled me to the ground, painfully grazing the skin on my cheek.  I wheezed a few times before my lungs filled with air.

“A Chippoke?” he asked between breaths.

I feverishly punched and kicked to free myself.  “Get—off—me!”

“Stop! I’m not going to hurt you,” the warrior chuckled as he struggled to pin my arms and legs.  His voice was calm and pleasant, but lying was no different than breathing to a Zennite.

“I cannot promise the same,” I wheezed as I fought.

“You’re a bobcat,” he said with a laugh.  “A bobcat with no teeth or claws.”

“Let me go!”

“I will when you’re calm.”

Strong hands held my wrists while his full weight pinned my torso against the earth.  Fighting him was as useless as running.  “You are not a boy,” I spat angrily, fully taking in my attacker.  It was little comfort that he didn’t look like a bloodthirsty killer.  He was admittedly handsome with an angular face and sleek black hair that hung well past his shoulders.  He was not as tall as Elan, but his muscles were narrow and built for speed.  There was something different about his eyes too.  They were as black as soot—very unlike the brown woodsy colors from our tribe.

The warrior smirked down at me.  “My mother will be very surprised to hear that.  All this time she’s assumed…”

My face heated, but I fiercely met his gaze.  The Zenni were like wild dogs and pumas—they could smell emotions. “What I meant was, you are a man, not a boy.”

“Oh, I see, but you must understand, I’m not a man yet.”

“You must understand I’m a squirrel!  Get off!  You’re hurting me!” I ordered with a useless heave.

“No,” he said with a smirk.

It was then I realized I might die—right after I was lulled into a false sense of security.  My chest pounded as I searched for the killer’s weapon.  “Are you going to kill me?”

“I do not feel like killing you just yet,” he said as his long hair swirled in my face.  Were we to play a game before he killed me?

“I am glad the mood doesn’t strike you,” I snarled.  The warrior studied me with a drawn brow.  Was he guessing that I was the forest witch?  I didn’t think I looked like a witch, but I wasn’t certain what one should look like—evil at least.

“I don’t understand something,” the warrior said.  “Your eyes are blue—the blue of an angry sky.  Are you the daughter of a god?”

“Yes,” I said, heaving against his weight again.  “Now get off me, or my father Achak will strike you dead with lightning.”

The Lost Realm

“Some would call it a twin’s intuition”

~~~~~~
Cover- The Guardians When sixteen-year-old twins Emma and Evin LeFay are suddenly forced to pack their belongings after the tragic murder of their mother, they soon find that the busy city life of Boston, Massachusetts is more than they could have expected…
First are the two mysterious boys that Emma crosses paths with one night, after being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. She thought she escaped them without getting caught, but it soon becomes apparent to her and Evin after a series of strange events that someone–or rather, several people–seem to be following them.
It’s after a close-run in with a group of menacing creatures, and the sudden aid of the same strange people that have been following them that Emma and Evin quickly realize there is more to Boston than skyscrapers and noisy cars.
Left with no other options and seeking the truth behind their mother’s murder, Emma and Evin accompany their saviors to a place known as Hawthorne Academy. It’s here that the twins soon learn they are part of a supernatural race with rare abilities, known as Dracons, one Otherworld race amongst four other paranormal races that have lived in disguise as humans for centuries.
Being part of an Otherworld race has its drawbacks, however, when Emma and Evin are enrolled for training at Hawthorne after a heated meeting with the Otherworld Council and its leaders. It’s either sink or swim for these Otherworldly twins as they train at the academy and learn to control their unique gifts.
Convinced life couldn’t get much more bizarre, Emma and Evin discover a mysterious archway leading to an entirely different realm that has been lost over time. It’s in this Lost Realm and the Celestial kingdom of Evmurah that the twins are dubbed the Guardians of the Realms, protectors of both the Mortal and Immortal Realms.
It’s Emma and Evin’s job to protect both realms from the darkness that taints them and the mysterious Precursor that seems to want them dead.
Cover- The Secret SocietyIt’s been one month since Emma and Evin Lefay’s encounter with the vengeful Caine Fletcher, and just as they are beginning to hope things can return to normal–or as normal as the Otherworlders’ lives can be–the twins are attacked one night in a graveyard by mysterious, mask-wearing Stiffs…
The twins learn the masked Stiffs are known as Venators, and are part of a secret society, whose sole purpose is to extinguish all Otherworld beings.
If that’s not enough, strange things are beginning to happen to Emma and Evin. Emma begins having preminitions, and Evin discovers he has the sudden, phenomenal ability to supernaturally heal his own wounds.
Meanwhile, Tristan’s sister is in town, and she’s causing more trouble than good–mainly in Evin’s love life. With two very different girls vying for his attention and only one girl worth chasing after, how can the Guardian possibly be expected to concentrate on much of anything else?
As if they aren’t already overwhelmed enough, the leader of the Boston Otherworld Mafia has taken a sudden interest in the Guardians. “Marco Polo,” as he is called, promises to help Emma and Evin with the Venators–for an unlisted price.
Things are quickly spinning out of control for Emma and Evin…
Will they conquer the threats that face them?
Or have the Guardians of the Realms finally met their match?
As a result, growing up, some of her best friends and biggest influences in her life were the characters from her favorite books.
The passion behind K.L.’s writing comes from the ability to be anyone and do anything, and because she can share the multiple different personalities living in her head without anyone judging her—much. For today I’ll be telling you about Vampire Blood
by Kathryn Meyer Griffith
1957920
1771e-addtogoodreadsblack
My Review
When I read Human No Longer, I knew I’d be reading more of Kathryn’s books. When she told me there was another book that was a prequel written before it, I had to read it.
They say nothing ever happens in a small town.
Jenny and her brother Joey are going to wish that were true.
A family of vampires are on the run after one of them made a mess of things. The leader, Michelson, decides it’s time to return to Summer Haven, Florida.
Michelson struggles to control the younger vampires, but it’s hopeless. They feed on anything and anyone and the heck with the consequences. The old town theatre seems like a good place to maintain their cover, but with the indiscriminate killings, trouble has followed them.
The poor town is losing citizens at an alarming rate and the murders are vicious and bloody. Soon Jenny and Joey will be drawn into the horrific events, caught between the feuding vampires.
No one is safe and the bodies keep piling up.
The author really had me squirming. I know I shouldn’t have cared about the vampires, but their leader almost had me on his side. I got where he was coming from. He had a family to feed and protect.
vampires photo: vampires 0004.jpg
Michelson had a good idea when he bought the old theatre and started getting it ready to reopen. He could make a living and the hours would be convenient. Too bad the brat, Irene, couldn’t keep her fangs to herself. A small town probably wasn’t the best choice when you’re trying to survive and stay undiscovered.
haunted houses photo: A dweary storm 101_1742-Copy.jpg
Jenny is my favorite character. She’s a horror writer and just moved back home after a bad divorce. She’s having to start over and find herself again. Imagine her surprise when the creatures she wrote in her fiction books turn out to be real.
Joey, her younger brother, owns the local diner. With his personality and his amazing cooking, the diner becomes the town hub and gossip central. In a small town there are no secrets.  I live in one and someone is always coming up to me and asking, did you hear about or guess what so and so did.
Together, these two siblings make a lethal combination. They both have people they care about, and the vampires chose the wrong town.
I couldn’t believe I was feeling sorry for some of the vampires. For the most part they’re cruel and toy with us like a cat with a mouse. We being the mice.
I’ve read several of Kathryn’s books and one thing she’s consistent with is her ability to spin an in-depth plot. Another is her abundance of characters, each with their own voice, easy to tell apart.
The beginning is bloody, then there’s the calm before the storm. Once the action starts it’s  hang onto your butt until you reach the end.
About Kathryn Meyer Griffith
Kathryn Meyer Griffith
Since childhood I’ve always been an artist and worked as a graphic designer in the corporate world and for newspapers for twenty-three years before I quit to write full time. But I’d already begun writing novels at 21, over forty-two years ago now, and have had eighteen (ten romantic horror, two romantic SF horror, one romantic suspense, one romantic time travel, one historical romance and three murder mysteries) previous novels, two novellas and twelve short stories published from Zebra Books, Leisure Books, Avalon Books, The Wild Rose Press, Damnation Books/Eternal Press and Amazon Kindle Direct.
I’ve been married to Russell for over thirty-five years; have a son, James, and two grandchildren, Joshua and Caitlyn, and I live in a small quaint town in Illinois called Columbia, which is right across the JB Bridge from St.   Louis, Mo. We have three quirky cats, ghost cat Sasha, live cats Cleo and Sasha (Too), and the five of us live happily in an old house in the heart of town. Though I’ve been an artist, and a folk singer in my youth with my brother Jim, writing has always been my greatest passion, my butterfly stage, and I’ll probably write stories until the day I die…or until my memory goes.
Blood Fugue
Moonsongs, Book 1
by E.J. Wesley
15865066
1771e-addtogoodreadsblack
“Some folks treated the past like an old friend. The memories warmed them with fondness for what was, and hope for what was to come. Not me. When I thought of long ago, my insides curdled, and I was left feeling sour and wasted.”
Jenny Schmidt is a young woman with old heartaches. A small town Texas girl with big city attitude, she just doesn’t fit in. Not that she has ever tried.
Life has pummeled her heart into one big, lonely callus. She has no siblings, both parents were dead by sixteen, and her last grandparent—and caretaker—was in the ground before she turned twenty-one. She’s the last living member of her immediate family. Or so she thinks…
“We found my ‘grandfather’ sitting at his dining room table. An entire scorched pot of coffee dangled from his shaky hand. His skin was the ashen gray shade of thunderclouds, not the rich mocha from the photo I’d seen. There were dark blue circles under each swollen red eye. A halo of white hair skirted his bald head, a crown of tangles and mats. Corpses had more life in them.”
Suddenly, instead of burying it with the dead, Jenny is forced to confront the past. Armed only with an ancient family journal, her rifle, and an Apache tomahawk, she must save her grandfather’s life and embrace her dangerous heritage. Or be devoured by it.
Blood Fugue is the first of the Moonsongs Books, an ongoing series of New Adult, paranormal-horror-action novelettes by author E.J. Wesley.
My Review
I just knew I was gonna love Jenny. She has serious attitude issues, wears radical clothes, and sports a purple mohawk. She doesn’t give a crap what anyone thinks about her.
Her mother died when she was 10 and her father lived for the bottle. The only good times they shared were when he took her to the gun range, teaching her how to shoot.
She became quite good at it. Never knowing she’d need to be.
Upon his death, she was raised by her grandmother, her last living family, who lived long enough to see Jenny become a grown woman.
Out of the blue she gets an email from her grandfather, Billy Moonsong, the one she’s been led to believe died many years ago. It was a short email.
“I would never contact you unless it was extremely important. It is. Please meet me tomorrow.”
Of course she goes to see him, but not alone. She takes her best friend Marshal.
Short stories and novellas have to grab me quickly. This one did. There’s the mysterious grandfather, a legacy, Native American (Apache) elements and flesh and blood characters.
Did I forget to mention the monster. Oh yeah, one very powerful, murderous creature.
Poor Jenny and poor Marshal. The handbook given to her by Billy Moonsong is supposed to help her understand her place in the family legacy. She’s a monster hunter and she better get with it quick.
What felt so authentic to me was how Jenny, and then Marshal. thought on their feet. They had no time to do research and no idea what creature was coming, so they were going to be very lucky to survive.
What comes is straight out of a horror movie.” Looks like Jenny’s going on the war path.”
My Review
Jenny survived her first battle with a monster, but there are more to kill.
She does have a normal life too, but she’s not very good at it. Always wasting too much money on her energy drink addiction instead of paying bills, she’s never far from having something shut off.
Her one link to adult responsibility is Marshal, and he never lets her off easy. Marshal was her grandmothers nurse and left him in charge of collecting rent from Jenny when she inherited the house.
After cruising through life, keeping herself closed off, Jenny has now found her true calling. Thanks to her now dead grandfather, Billy Moonsong, she’s gotten an up close and personal tutorial on their family history and what part she has in it for the future.
The ancient tribal journal he’d left her was a how to of monster hunting. Now she has a calling and made it official. Moonsong PI as in Paranormal Investigator.
Marshal is becoming her partner in this and new characters and a love interest enter the mix, along with an unsavory witch.
If you think a witch isn’t all that scary, think again. They have access to lots of power and are always looking for more. That sometimes calls for blood.
This next installment in the Moonsongs Series is every bit as good as the first. And the author keeps you gasping at the action and grinning at the dialogue. I also like the bit of romance sneaking into this series.
My Review
.
This is the third novella in the Moonsongs Series. The author does some reminiscing in the beginning, bringing you up to speed.
There was one thing that lingered from the first story to the next. Finally it’s discovered. It gnawed at Jenn and kept me curious. The way the author popped it up now and then, like she wanted me to remember, had me thinking it was significant. It could be good or it could be bad for Jenn
Jenny’s paranormal investigation business is in a slump, leaving her with idle time.  So Marshal becomes her coach, doing Q&A’s about monsters and how to kill them. They still haven’t had much luck with the tribunal journal her grandfather left her.
Things don’t stay quiet for long. Marshal’s dad is building the new town bridge. When Marshal and Jenn arrive at the site, no one is around. It’s like they all vanished. Until they spot the blood and follow the trail to a hand, just a severed hand. Further on they find the mangled, unidentifiable remains of a man.
The sheriff is quick to pass it off as a rogue bear, but Jenn knows better.
“We’d been down this road before, and there weren’t any bears waiting with porridge at the end of it.”
I didn’t catch on right away as to which monster this was going to be. Perhaps I should have. The author did give me a clue.
E. J. Wesley does an excellent job writing as a female protagonist. I was skeptical, but he was dead on with Jenn.
Another thrilling story every bit as good as the first two.
My Review
Finally. Jenny runs into a mysterious man, a potential love interest.
She’s out of her element, seeking out another nasty witch. This time in a swanky pub. That’s where she meets the sexy, mysterious, and very persistent hunk of manflesh.
I was wondering when the author would do this. Marshal has his guy, but Jenn is still single. It would have to be someone special to see past her snarky attitude and purple mohawk.
Now we’re back to witches, but not just one. There’s a slew of them, and one in particular is very much the hag. She wants Jenn, or rather, she wants her dead.
With a whole gang after them, the race is on, and Jenn isn’t finding much to help in that handbook. She’s going to have to learn as she goes.
This one feels darker, more violent. There’s a couple of new supernatural beings introduced. Some real wicked ones.
One  could be unbeatable. That’s where the mysterious pub crawler comes in handy. I knew there was something going on with him.
I wish I could have seen this on the big screen. It would have been one epic battle.
Jenny Moonsong recently inherited the title of “monster hunter” and an ancient tribal journal/how-to manual passed down by her Apache ancestors. Vampire’s Ball, Moonsongs book 5, finds Jenny and her best friend Marshal in their most harrowing adventure yet. Traveling by boat to an extravagant masquerade party located at a Galveston Island mansion, Jenny must parlay with an ancient vampire in order to secure the release of the dragon princess, Isis. My Review
Now we get to the vampires.
This is the fifth and newest in the Moonsong Series, and it’s every bit as great as the other four.
It used to be just Jenn and Marshal, but now there’s also Rushdam and Ren, two guys with more muscle to help with the pesky monsters.
This isn’t just about going to a vampire ball. Jenn landed in a pickle in the last story and now she has to retrieve something to pay a debt. Or rather, trade something.
The vampires in this series aren’t sparkly. They are as cold as their skin and they have no compassion. We are just food to be played with and swiftly devoured.
If anything goes wrong with their plan, none of them may get out alive.
I thought the battle in book four was epic. This one is even wilder. It starts in the mansion and ends up in the middle of the lake. I was holding my breath, not seeing a happy outcome.
And this is where the author left me. With one heck of a cliffhanger I didn’t expect. But it’s a really good one.
My tease from page 66.
He felt the thrill of the hunt roiling within him, looking for a way up and out. Similar to a burning sensation, it made him drunk with the heavy desire to take.
 Once he tasted a soul he liked, there was nothing to do but dive in and absorb its essence, taking over the body the way a captain steers a ship.
Synopsis
BEWARE! THE PLANET IS WOUNDED… THE GEMINI ARE RISING AND OUR TIME ON EARTH IS LIMITED
Angry at the human race and its methodical destruction of her resources, Mother Earth recruits souls who have just left their bodies to serve Her, and turns them against humanity. Gemini, a clan of paranormal beings, picked from these possessed humans, emerges. A powerful, rising force proceeds to carry out Mother Nature’s plan to systematically destroy towns, cities, states… and eventually, the world.
