We took a bus from our hotel, traveling through the lush greenery of Belize. When we’d first arrived here, it was like being transported into a fairy tale. It was such a disorienting contrast to the dark claustrophobia of the city back home. Here all the colors were bolder, and even the sun shone brighter.

That’s how I felt when I moved to the Gulf Coast.

This wasn’t what Brice signed up for.
They promised adventure and excitement, not routine and reports. They trained and enhanced him, then stuck him on menial duties. They made him a man, yet they treat him like a child.
His commander is a has-been, the tech guy’s got an over-inflated ego, the pilot’s too emotionally attached to her craft, and their tracker smothers them all like an over-protective mother. And now they’re miles from home, in the worst storm of the season, and they’re losing power.
But things are about to get far worse.
Something hides in the shadows. It watches, and waits. Soon, it must satisfy its hunger.
Brice definitely didn’t sign up for this.

Following Nine of Stars comes the next chapter in Laura Bickle’s critically acclaimed Wildlands series

As the daughter of an alchemist, Petra Dee has battled supernatural horrors and experienced astonishing wonders. Gabe is being held prisoner by the sheriff and heir to the ranch, Owen Rutherford. Owen is determined to harness the power of the Tree of Life—and he needs Gabe to reveal its magic. Secretly, the sheriff has also made a pact to free a creature of the underground, a flesh-devouring mermaid. Muirenn has vowed to exact vengeance on Gabe, who helped imprison her, but first . . . she’s hungry. Once freed, she will swim into Yellowstone—to feed.

With her coyote sidekick Sig, Petra must descend into the underworld to rescue Gabe before it’s too late . . . for both of them.
