Enjoy this peek inside:

Outside a mourning dove cries in its new nest in the birch tree, at the same time a small fishing boat on the bay glides by. Before washing my hands, I remove my wedding band, put it on a saucer, and think of Mark, wondering where he is. Though I’m a little lonely, I don’t want him here. I think of the other night and seeing Antonio at his house. I know I’ve never felt the same feelings with Mark that I had with Antonio. I don’t remember feelings of wanting him badly to be with me. Did I trade true love for comfort?

Being with Mark has meant there’d always be safety, certainty, and security for me. But as Patsy said, Mark himself has not been a constant for me. He’s a man prone toward selfishness, a man not understanding of his partner’s essential nature. He has tried, but what that’s meant is giving me more things to replace the intangible cravings I’ve had: to be seen, heard, listened to.

I can’t say for sure what my life with Antonio might have been. But I can remember like yesterday the yearnings I had for him, those of both purity and lust.

Someone knocks at the door. “Carmen, the door’s open. Come in.”

Karma, wagging her tail, runs from the kitchen to our visitor, whining happily.

“Carmen?” I yell from the kitchen while chopping a banana. “I’m in the kitchen making a fruit salad. The hammer’s on the table. And thank you for the string beans.” The footsteps come closer, then stop.

“It’s not Carmen.”

I turn, see the dark-and-silver-hair. The square jaw. The unmistakable dimples.

It’s Antonio.

He wears faded jean, a black cotton T-shirt, scuffed black work boots. “I heard you say to come in … I hope you don’t mind.” Karma sniffs his boots, licks his fingertips. He smiles broadly, points at the knife I’m holding. “Or maybe I shouldn’t have. You’re not going to rush at me with that, are you?”

I look down. My knife is aimed at him. “No, no. I was making a … I thought you were my neighbor …” The words fade. I lay the knife on the cutting board, wipe my hands with the dish towel.

His eyes melt my being. He takes an easy step toward me and nods in a familiar way, a primitive way, pulling me in like the moon pulls the sea. He studies me, missing little and holds up a clipboard. He wears a watch with a black complex face and black leather band. “I told you I’d send someone over to take a look at your house.” In one swoop, he examines the cottage.

“My house?” I ask.

He bites his lip. “You said you need some repairs?”

“Oh right,” I say, heat rising in my neck.

“My crews are all over town,” he says. “So you get the boss today. Wanna show me around?”

“Sure.”

He follows me to the front door. I hold it open, giving him unsaid permission to exit first. When he steps over the threshold, the skin of his forearm skims my shoulder.

His movements, even and fluid, arouse me. I watch the braid of back muscles tighten when he descends under the house searching for the cause of a water stain.

Later, I walk him to the door, and I can tell that he, too, is feeling unsure what to do next. He follows up with a half hug, and then, “Are you going to the Fourth of July bonfire at the vineyard?”

I feel flutters. “I saw their flier, but haven’t thought about it, but yes, I’ll go.”

“Good. See you there. And I’ll be in touch about your house.”

I satay at the door and watch him step into his truck. My heart races as he leaves.

About Author C. H. Lazarovich:

C. H. Lazarovich is the author of “Another Side of the Heart.” The debut novel is sparking excitement with early readers: The story “is so much about marriage, motherhood, abortion, resurrecting an old love, decisions a woman makes about childbearing, youth choices … ” and “The novel owes more to literary fiction with its beautifully nuanced and multi-layered narrative … ” Lazarovich, who lives in southern New Jersey, has been a freelance journalist under her real name Catherine Laughlin for magazines and newspapers, and teaches writing at Temple University Klein College of Media and Communication. Lazarovich has said that she gravitates to stories that chronicle the experiences of midlife women, and that there’s a complexity to the lives of older women that’s often underplayed in the arts. She hopes “Another Side of the Heart” fulfills some of that void.

If You Loved Me

by Brianna Remus

Publication date: April 26th 2024
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

My parents would lose their minds if they found out their precious daughter lost her virginity to the town’s notorious bad boy and ex-convict.

Ranger Adams might have been a dangerous pariah after he was released from prison, but he was the only man I wanted. And after I convinced him to take me on a date, I got exactly what my body…and heart desired.

I spent my entire life trying to get away from my parents’ overbearing grasp. They’ve tried to control every part of my life, even down to the man I was supposed to marry. That was the price of being born into one of the South’s richest families.

The second I had a chance to get away, I did. Ten years of pissing them off and making my dreams come true was worth the sacrifice. No fun. No relationships. And no sex.

My life had been all work until Ranger came back into town. Everyone whispered about what he’d done to land in prison. But I didn’t care.

He was rough around the edges, wild, and free.

And I wanted every bit of what he was willing to give me.

“Ranger,” she breathed, my name was a prayer on her lips.

I let her wrist go and reached down to pick her up. My heartbeat pounded in my ears as she kissed me, opening up fully and dipping her tongue into my mouth. She was so warm and sweet. Her little moans vibrated against my tongue making me want her mouth on another part of me.

I settled us on the couch and watched as she leaned back, threading her fingers through my hair. “I love that you have long hair.”

“Oh yeah?” I asked before bringing my thumb to her lower lip wondering what it might feel like to run the head of my cock over it.

Her tongue darted out between her lips and she took my thumb in her mouth, her cheeks hollowed as she sucked. “Mmhmm,” she mused. “It’ll make it easier to keep your head in place when it’s between my legs.”

My cock jolted. I yanked my thumb from her mouth and snagged her bottom lip between my teeth, suckling it with my tongue and lips before letting it go with a pop. When I smacked her ass, she ground her hips into me, another moan slipping out of her mouth. “You won’t have to keep me anywhere, babe. I’ll gladly feast on your sweetness for the rest of my fucking life.”

Her lids fluttered, eyes dazed with lust. “But what if I want to be the one to taste you?”

Fuck. Me.

Grabbing the back of her neck, I brought her closer so I could whisper in her ear, “You wanna taste me?”

Tendrils of her hair tickled my cheek as she nodded.

“Then let me give my girl what she wants.” I lifted her off me and stood before her. The fear I’d seen in her eyes before was gone. Erased with the heady need we felt for one another and I was thankful for it. This I could do. Watching her eyes trace my body as I unbuckled my belt and undid my jeans. Seeing her in pain had been too much for me to bear. My chest had felt like it was caving in.

But this. Just the two of us together. This I could do all fucking night. Hell. All day and night.

Her breathing quickened as her eyes darted to where my fingers slid under the edge of my boxers. “You’re sure?” I asked.

Those molten eyes looked back up at me. “Yes, I’m sure.”

With her permission, I hooked my thumbs into the band of my boxers and pulled them down. My cock was heavy, pulsing upward as she took me in.

She swallowed. “I’ve never done this before, Ranger.” Those beautiful eyes I loved so much were wary like I might flee from her admission. What she didn’t know was that I didn’t give a shit about her being experienced. I only wanted her.

“We’ll take it slow. Whatever you don’t want to do, just tell me, okay?”

She nodded again as I grabbed her hand and sat back down on the couch.

“Kneel,” I commanded and I watched as she lowered herself to her knees.

“Good girl.” Seeing her kneel between my legs nearly had me seeing stars from how much my dick throbbed. Dark eyelashes fanned over her cheekbones when she looked down at my length.

Enjoy this peek inside:

After Nia told me that Shane Hott is an actor, I watched the first Crown of Spires movies, Lord of Every Sky. It was full of scenes where he was shirtless, badass, and bossy. He’s basically the villain of the first movie—although I get the sense that he’s going to be redeemed later from the way the camera lingers on his…assets.

Even as I watched, I questioned my life choices. I wasn’t at all sure watching the movie was a good idea because in a town as small as Rush Creek, Shane and I were bound to cross paths.

After I watched him in Lord of Every Sky, I wanted to build a small monument to his torso and worship it…with my tongue.

And now, encountering him in the hallway outside of Hanna’s office, my knees feel less solid than I would ideally like.

Never trust a guy so good looking he makes you stupid.

So I do what any self-respecting woman would do in that situation.

I pretend I have no idea who he is.

I can tell he’s waiting for me to recognize him, giving me a beat to say, Holy crap, Shane Hott!

After he got on Bridge and turned into a household name, Anthony used to do the same thing.

Seeing echoes of Anthony in this guy makes me even less inclined to give him what he wants. Another Hollywood fuckboy hopped up on fan worship. It’s the last thing my life needs.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Ivy Scofield,” I say, cool and low key, like I’m introducing myself to the manager at the bank.

Surprise flickers behind his eyes, but he hides it, extending his hand. I take it. It’s big, warm, and dry and, unfortunately for my equilibrium, attached to a toned, muscular forearm below a rolled shirt sleeve. The shirt itself is a soft-looking blue gray that clings in all the right places to his movie star–worthy shoulders, pecs, and abs. He has long-lashed dark brown eyes paired with a blade of a nose, square jaw, and lush mouth. Against my will, I admit that he’s gorgeous.

I thought I had permanently rid myself of men who were too good looking to be believed, but apparently not.

“I think we can help each other out,” he says. Actually, he whispers it. “You, um, mind walking with me?” He gestures toward the exit.

“Should I be worried that you’re a serial killer?”

The corner of his mouth turns up. “I’m not a serial killer. I’m an actor.”

“Even worse.”

He laughs, which is terrible because it makes him even better looking, all eye crinkles and white teeth and genuine amusement. Then he stops—because I wasn’t joking and he seems to intuit that.

“Even so,” he says, more seriously. “Please. Just…let me walk you out and tell you what I’m thinking.”

I give him a shrug-nod, and we walk out of Hott Springs together to the parking lot. Now I know who owns the Aston Martin Vanquish I parked next to. I know nothing about cars…but Anthony coveted that car: fast, expensive, and—his words—a dream to drive.

As we draw even with his car, Shane says, “I know you need our barn.”

I flick him a quick, confused glance as hope buys real estate in my chest. It sounds like he’s implying that it still might be possible. I will do anything to save our theater—not just for me, but for the kids. I know Nia feels the same way.

“I can get the barn for you.”

“Hanna said—”

“Hanna wasn’t looking at the whole picture,” he tells me. “I am.”

I raise an eyebrow.

“You need the barn, and I need you to marry me.”

His too-pretty-for-real-life face is deadly serious now. My mouth falls open.

When a man, haunted by secrets, reunites with the only woman who’s ever ignited his soul, he’ll do anything to prove he’s more than his mistakes.

From the moment I laid eyes on her in Vegas, I knew tattoo artist Jordan Deveraux was my destiny.

Our chemistry was too fiery to ignore, one night of passion could never be enough.

Walking away was agony.

Easily, the biggest regret of my life.

Her game of pretend doesn’t mask the heat still smoldering between us.

Little does she know, I have the roadmap to turn her fantasies into reality.

Stranded in my boat, the waves aren’t the only things rocking.

Her ability to resist me sinks faster than a lead anchor.

Here’s the catch—my past isn’t as spotless as the buildings I design.

And my secrets threaten to pull us under.

Can we navigate these turbulent waters to find a future?

Or, will my mistake capsize everything?

Enjoy this peek inside:

The hum of tattoo machines is always music to my ears. It’s the sweet, sweet sound of success.

Something I don’t take for granted. Hard work and fortitude is in my blood.

I’ve managed to turn my art degree into a gold mine. I graduated from Cornish College of the Arts many years ago, but it took a while for me to find my way. Did the starving artist thing—tried to sell my paintings while paying the bills as a server and barista. Then came a corporate stint in commercial design, which I absolutely hated. Leaving me with freelancing—a nightmare through and through.

A career in the arts seemed out of reach. Well, maybe for me. I was going nowhere.

On a whim, I sold my belongings and fled to Europe for a year-long backpacking excursion.

Within the first couple of weeks, I met a group of tattoo artists at a collective in Amsterdam. Immersing myself in their world, I changed my plan. Rather than aimlessly traveling, I apprenticed and soaked up the culture.

By the time I returned home to Seattle, I’d developed my own style and had a small following. A few months later, I won a contest in Las Vegas and haven’t looked back since.

Rather than work for someone else, I presented my pops with a business proposal. It worked. He staked me with enough funds to open my shop, The Salty Siren. Jace taught me how to cultivate a social media following. Within a few months, I had a waiting list, paid back Dad’s loan and bought a condo.

It blows me away how far my schedule books out in advance.

For the most part I’m happy, but recent life changes have me reconsidering a few things.

“Merc, who’s on the books today? I’m pretty sure it’s a long-ass appointment, if memory serves.” I approach Mercury, my best friend and shop manager. “Let me guess. Someone wants a mermaid sleeve.”

Merc, as everyone calls him, with his silver hair and piercing blue eyes, shoots me a glare. “Careful. You’re not exuding gratitude today. Your mermaids are legendary. People wait for over a year to get inked by you.”

Appropriately put in my place, I flip through my sketchbook past pages of intricate flowing tails and ethereal faces. “Oh, I know, but I like to mix it up. Keep my chops up.”

“Well, today’s your lucky day, babe. New customer. The guy booked over a year ago.” Merc peruses the shop’s master calendar on his tablet.

I’m barely paying attention because my fingers pause on a page in my notebook. Amongst my designs is a list I started after Cameron and I broke up. The “Tryst List” is my secret rebellion against the monotony of my love life. Merc’s eyes follow mine, and he raises an eyebrow.

“Oooh. What do we have here?” With a mischievous glint in his eye, Mercury’s hand claps over mine, stopping me from turning the page.

I feel my face redden. “Uhhh…my plan to live a little. Or a lot.” I offer a wry smile. “I’m thinking of making up for lost time, you know, after Cameron.”

“Cameron. Ugh. Your couple vibe was definitely more cookouts and beer than fireworks and passion. Maybe it was his uniform of khakis and button-down shirts.” He rolls his eyes in disgust.

I can’t help but laugh. Of course, Merc would feel this way given our affinity for grommets, leather, and chunky boots.

Dirty Books

by Carissa Knight

(The One Night Stand Club, #2)
Publication date: April 12th 2024
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, Romance

SOMETIMES, LIFE CAN BE STRANGER (AND HOTTER) THAN FICTION.

Carlie Taylor, a shy and (often clumsy) erotic romance author, decides to walk on the wild side at Club Nocté’s latest event – a masquerade party. What’s the harm in a little anonymous fun? Well, when that fun leaves you with flashbacks of a stranger’s kiss and the world’s most baffling case of déjà vu, things get interesting.

Enter Adam, a personal trainer with abs that deserve their own Instagram account (oh wait, they have one). When he starts training Carlie, the sparks fly—but not just from the workout burn. There’s something strangely familiar about those biceps, but where could she have seen them before…?

Cue the drama: Adam’s Insta-famous life is like a soap opera, complete with a villainous ex who could give Cruella a run for her money. As Carlie and Adam’s flirty banter turns into something more, the world watches, likes, and comments. But can their fledgling romance survive the glare of the spotlight and the ghost of masquerades past?

The plot thickens like a good protein shake when Carlie has her ‘aha!’ moment. That mysterious, dreamy guy from the club? Yup, it’s Mr. Six-Pack himself. Now, the question isn’t just about enduring a tough gym session, but whether they can flex their hearts into accepting that their one-night stand might just be the real deal.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

Enjoy this peek inside:

Carlie Taylor doesn’t exist—not tonight.

Instead, I’m gonna shed her like a skin—leaving behind the woman fraught with self-doubt, obsessed over every curve, and prone to clumsy missteps. Of which there are many.

No, tonight, I am Zoey Cummings, a veritable sex goddess, armed with unshakeable confidence and a voracious appetite for adventure.

Zoey takes what she wants—from whoever she wants it.

No burdens to bear. No repercussions.

At least, that’s the plan.

Nestled in the familiar sanctuary of my car—just a whisper away from the venue, in fact—I retrieve the invite from my purse.

A shaky breath escapes my lips, and for a fleeting moment, I’m lost in the tactile dance of my fingers over the sumptuous dark paper—a detail I would have lingered on in one of my novels, painting the scene with words.

The gravity of the impending night makes my heart flutter as if I’m on the precipice of my own story’s pivotal scene.

I can only wish.

No—no thinking like that. Not tonight.

Shaking my head, I refocus on the invite.

The beautifully handwritten letters spell out ‘Zoey Cummings’—a pseudonym that promises a night of liberation if I can just get my head in the game—truly.

This invite is more than just paper and ink—it’s a golden ticket to an evening of seduction.

Hell, who am I kidding?

It’s a spell to forget, too.

Am I truly ready to be untethered to the past? To my stupid ex?

The wounds from him are still raw, his memory a lingering shadow in my mind and on my heart.

No, I need this.

I need to obliterate the ghost of him, even if just for one ephemeral night.

Such a great word, ephemeral. It’s really not used often enough,

Focus, Carlie—er, Zoey.

Fucksake.

With shakier hands than I care to admit, I turn the envelope over and gently pull out the card. Sparkly silver scrolling glistens on the black silky paper, and I read over the words once more, confirming the details that are already etched in my mind.

“Zoey, it is under the veil of night…” I whisper out loud, then fall into silence as I read on.

Interview With Author Kelly Smith:
.

There are many books out there about love and romance, what makes your different?

The thing that makes, The Wedding, so different from other love/romance books is that in The Wedding the reader follows the journey of four friends who are falling in and out of love while they are trying to build careers and maintain their own friendships. What is special about The Wedding, is that while the reader is reading, they are also solving a mystery. Who is getting married?? Reading to the end will earn you a wedding invitation to THE wedding!

Do you ever get writers block? How do you overcome it?

I do get writer’s block. I find it pops up when I am feeling stressed out or anxious about something in my life. Sometimes a drive will help to get the words flowing again, at other times I have to let my stress or anxiety pass before I can continue to create.

What is your next project?

I am working on a short series about the effects of being a serial womanizer from the male’s perspective. The reader will tag along with my main character as he discovers how his promiscuous ways can lead to his life in turmoil, but can a serial womanizer really change?

Where can readers purchase your books?

Readers can purchase all my books:

On Amazon, Kindle, Audible, Barnes & Noble (online), Target (online), Book People, and of course my website

If you could have only one season, what would it be?

I love the fall. I am not sure if that’s because I grew up in New England, or because my birthday is in October, but nothing beats the smell of sharpened pencils, crisp air, and fresh apple cider all in the same day. Late September through Halloween you walk through crunchy fallen leaves and pull your sweater a little tighter around you as you make your way to either the local high school football game and sit in the stands with hot coco or take photos with friends and family as you pick way too many apples at your towns local farm that gives you the encouragement to make a variety of apple desserts. Fall is when the leaves change, and winter begins to knock on your door for alerting you to prepare to huddle in before the freezing temps take over and its time to huddle in to keep warm. Fall is my happy place.

La Bella Luna

by Nicole Sharp

Publication date: March 19th 2024
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, Romance

Can you really reject a surprise last-minute, all-expense paid trip to Italy from your sister? For Diana, a sensible CPA in Atlanta, you most certainly can.

But within the last week, Diana turned forty-five, got engaged, purchased a wedding cake and agreed to join her fiancé in another state where his current work project has been extended for several months.

Diana’s younger sister, Harper, uses these uncharacteristic life changes as proof that Diana definitely can meet her in Italy. Besides, Harper’s already cleared the trip with Diana’s boss and fiancé. So begrudgingly, Diana agrees to go.

Little did she know that her whole world would be turned upside down the second she stepped foot on Italian soil.

As Diana falls deeper into Italy’s culture, countryside and cuisine, she reconnects with the ghosts of her past and reignites passions she thought had long been extinguished – proving that life and love are full of phases.

Enjoy this peek inside:

Navigating the tight space, Diana found a small table in the back of the café, where she could see people exiting into the arrival area.

She wasn’t sure where the thought or even the motivation came from, but she pulled out her phone, chose the camera app, held up the cup and took a selfie.

She carefully put the cup down and looked at the picture; actually thought about deleting it, but then on a whim, posted it to her account that Harper insisted she needed to set up for this trip. And why the hell not?

“Pisa, Italy. First espresso,” she wrote and posted the picture.

She took a few sips, closing her eyes to savor the bitter hot loveliness.

Finally, a message from Harper came in, demanding Diana call her right away. This was why she’d activated an international calling plan for her phone.

Diana excitedly grinned when Harper picked up on the first ring and exclaimed. “You must be nearby!”

“Well …” Harper drew out the word, “Lu, you have the itinerary, right?”

“Yes, I printed it off before I left and it’s on my phone. Where are you?”

“Happy engagement!” Harper sang.

“Harper …” Diana laughed and looked around the part of the airport she could see, as if her younger sister would appear at any moment.

“Look, if I told you the truth you wouldn’t have gone, and you needed to go; Hell, if anyone needs a vacation it’s you.”

“Harper,” Diana’s heart began to thump wildly in her chest, “where are you?”

In almost a whisper, Harper answered, “New York.”

Diana turned so no one could see her anger. She cupped a hand over the receiver of her phone. “What the hell do you mean you’re in New York?”

“I couldn’t afford to pay for both of us. But I wanted you to have something different … I wanted to get you out of the house before you got married. I wanted you to see … more, something bigger, something inspiring before you got married.”

“Harper,” Diana choked out in disbelief.

“I wanted to get you out of your fucking comfort zone,” Harper admitted, with all the loving passion she could.

Diana was certainly out of her comfort zone now, that was for sure, and she’d be damned if she was going to stay in a foreign country by herself. “I’m not staying here alone,” she hissed. “You got me into this Harper, you need to get me a return ticket and get me out of this. Now.”

“No.”

“Then I need to go, I need to figure out how to get home.”

“No. Please. You have ten days paid vacation in Italy. Do you know how many people dream of something like that?”

“Harper.” Diana’s throat was closing with the urge to cry.

“Luna, if you can’t figure out how to do this for yourself, then do this for me.“ Harper’s voice hitched with the same emotion. “Please Lu, you deserve something like this. You deserve to see something beautiful. You deserve to … sit in a Piazza in a world-famous café and sip an espresso. You deserve to be moved to tears by a painting.“ It was Harper who was crying now. “Jesus, Diana, you deserve to stand in the middle of Rome and be inspired. I understand this is the scariest thing anyone has ever asked you to do, I get that it’s a scary ass thing that I am asking you to do, but please … please, if you can’t do this for yourself, then do it for me.”

About Author Nicole Sharp:

Legend has it that Nicole Sharp was born to hippies during an ice storm in Stone Mountain, Georgia. While confirmation of said events cannot be agreed upon, one fact is for certain, it was a Tuesday.

By age twelve, Nicole was sure of two things: 1) She wanted to be a writer and 2) She wanted to travel. She begged her parents to allow her to voyage alone to exotic lands. They permitted her to go from California to Boise, Idaho to visit a great-grandmother.

After muddling through the college years, Nicole graduated with a Bachelors in History (think Greeks and Romans). Why didn’t she major in English if she wanted to be a writer? There were better stories in history class.

Nicole is Italian. According to Ancestry.com it’s a rather low percentage, but she feels that she is at least 51% Italian. When she returned to the homeland, she fell in love with the Italian cappuccino, so much so that she studied the language until she was fluent; thus she could order the magical elixir herself: Posso avere un cappuccino, per favore!

Nicole’s first concert was to see the bluegrass group The Seldom Scene when she was a fifteen-year-old, thanks to her parent’s bluegrass phase. However, she never admits it, and instead tells everyone that They Might Be Giants, whom she saw in college, was her real first concert.

Her first car was a yellow Chevy Celebrity and her favorite job was working as a docent in a museum in an old mining town in Colorado. She has written extensively about both.

Christopher headed to the bathroom, regretting he couldn’t enjoy The Work Song by Hozier. It piped into the bathroom too, but he wasn’t sure how much time he had to clean up before Megan returned. He refused to waste even a minute to return to the bedroom and turn the volume up.

A few minutes into the steaming hot water raining over his head and chest and washing away his first round of soap, arms wrapped around his waist and a small, soft body pressed into his back.

He stilled and squeezed his eyes shut, his entire being suddenly sizzling. For days, he’d been afraid to even imagine feeling her touch. No matter what, they always found their way back into each other’s arms and resumed their very healthy sex life.

But for a brief moment in time, his world had collapsed. Megan’s chances of survival had been slim, and he’d believed their daughter dead.

“Christopher,” Megan said, placing tiny kisses along his back and setting his blood on fire. Her little hand wrapped around his big dick, and he jerked, on the verge of coming.

Instead, he twisted around, dislodging her fingers, and lifted her into his arms, slanting his mouth over hers, sliding his tongue between her lips.

“Christopher,” she breathed again, threading her fingers through his hair, as ravenous for his kisses as he was for hers.

Their lips met softly, then crashed together hungrily, varying between soft and tender to deep and fervent in an endless loop of love, desire, and tenderness.

Time stood still, but warmth and excitement flooded him, awakening every nerve ending and igniting a spark that exposed his soul and exploded in his brain.

The world, the bullshit, the fear and trauma of the last few weeks, faded into nothingness. All that mattered was her, them, and the solace and affirmation he found in her arms.

He adored her, and he would unto eternity, beyond his dying breath.

“I love you, Megan,” he said hoarsely. “You my everything, baby.”

She thumbed his lips, offering him a soft, sweet smile. “And I worship you, Christopher. Without you, my life has no meaning. I don’t know how to begin to show you my gratitude for being a wonderful husband and an amazing father. You’re the best of the best, and the day I met you was the luckiest day of my life.”

He kissed her again, his heart beating in harmony with hers. “I ain’t too sure where I’d be without you. You keep me on my fuckin’ toes. You stormed into my life, and I knew if I didn’t change for you, I would lose you. You changed me and my entire world.”

Sadness touched her gorgeous face and her lips trembled.

“What, baby?”

“Nothing,” she said quietly, then pasted a smile on her face, leaned forward and kissed him again. “I love you.”

A Shocking Death: Kaleb Paul Andrew

WARNING: Contains spoilers

Because I didn’t expect to write any books beyond Misled, I never anticipated what might happen to the characters who survived until the end. To me, they rode off into the sunset and lived happily ever after.

When I decided to extend the Death Dweller world beyond that one book, ideas began to form about other characters. When the heroine’s mother was introduced at the end of Misled (book one), the idea that she might find her own Prince Charming didn’t occur to me. However, when she ran across Kaleb Paul Andrews, K-P, I was tickled pink. Not only could she find someone, but I would have an older hero and heroine. At the end of Misappropriate (book two), I began a rough outline for the upcoming books in the series and announced the heroes and heroines for each.

Then. Tragedy.

Book three.

Misunderstood.

Even as the miserably violent Logan Donovan haunted my story, I didn’t expect the outcome. When K-P turned up missing, leaving Dinah alone and exposed, I didn’t anticipate his fate.

At this point, dear reader, you might be thinking that I, as the writer, controlled the arc of the story and the destiny of the characters. Perhaps, if I was a plotter, I would agreed. But I am a pantser. I fly by the seat of my pants and use my brain as a conduit for their stories. It is weird and strange. Yet, it is the truth. So, when the words announcing K-P’s death flew from my brain to my fingers and onto the screen, I stopped and stared, absolutely horrified.

Gone was the hell he’d give his daughter’s love interest. Gone was Dinah’s chance at happiness. And, gone was one of the more honorable characters from the off-page generation of Death Dwellers.

Even now, with ten years separating me from writing the original book and my plans to rewrite some parts of it as I did Misled and Misappropriate, I wish things were different. One of the best things about the Bridge Series is that I get to explore K-P’s backstory during the interludes. I wish he and I had made different choices. I wish it wasn’t canon that Logan perished in the original series so he would’ve been done away with in one of the interludes.

K-P is one of the few characters that I got rid of that I truly mourned. His death remains shocking.

So, I ask you: if you’re a writer, can you identify with me? If you’re a reader, what character death in a book you’ve read has shocked you the most?

A Blessing and a Curse

by Anna Campbell

Publication date: October 31st 2023
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Blessing Savage barely remembers who she was before the unexpected death of her father, Pastor Savage. These days she clings desperately to the party girl persona she’s created for her second year of college, living with a new group of friends, joining their sorority, and partying non-stop. There’s only one thing that can kill her perpetual buzz, and his name is Camden Holbrook, the boy she’s pined for for nearly a decade.

Camden credits Blessing’s father for saving him when he was a child, giving him a place to stay when his mother abandoned him and setting him back on the right track. So when Pastor Savage asked a promise of Camden before dying – to look out for Blessing – he made a vow and meant it. Protecting Blessing has always come easily. Loving her has not. Not for someone who’s learned time and time again that love and loss are intricately interwoven.

After years of Camden keeping her at arm’s length, the last thing Blessing wants is him barging into her life. But new Blessing refuses to let Cam play knight-in-shining-armor, not when she knows – from one starry summer’s night slip-up – how he really feels about her. This time around, Blessing’s intent on pushing Camden’s limits, and she’s got some sexy new tricks up her sleeve to take him past them. Then maybe he’ll admit the truth of his feelings. Maybe the person who’s always known her best can help her find a way back to herself. Maybe she can prove to Camden that love doesn’t always destroy a person. Sometimes, it’s the only thing that can start putting them back together.

Enjoy this peek inside:

Homecoming (Now)

We follow her lead through the throng of people and around one large, chunky pile of pink-tinted vomit – eww – back toward the legitimate Homecoming festivities. We’re walking away from the tents, and suddenly Campbell is running toward them, eyes flashing with mischief, waving at us.

“Oh hey, girls!” she calls. “Look who I found at the game!”

The crowd parts, and I stop in my tracks.

So much for Camden not being at Homecoming.

There he stands, looking like a member of the student body, in sneakers, jeans, and a hoodie, except, of course, way hotter. There’s another guy with him – shorter, with red hair, eyes looking like they’re about to pop out of his head as the scores of scantily clad sorority girls walk past, occasionally bumping into him.

Camden looks me over from head to toe, my braided pigtails tied with red ribbons, the school shirt that’s been cut and tied so it sticks to my torso like body paint, the tiny shorts. His eyes flash with something – disapproval, frustration, want… maybe all of the above. Maybe none of the above. Then he forces his eyes away from me, though I see them jumping, trying to betray him and return.

Bella squeals. “Camden! Yay! What are you doing here?”

Campbell winds her arm around his bicep. I stare at it – it reminds me of a snake – and I really, really don’t like it there. “So I went back inside to get a slice of pizza, and guess who was right in front of me in line? I told him he had to come back with me, that that’s where the real party is.” She points to the other kid. “This is his friend. Jace, right?”

Jace nods like a happy puppy.

Camden clears this throat. “Couple of the other guys we work with are here, too.” He glances back toward the stadium. “The guy we’re working for gave us the tickets. I mean, obviously we don’t go here, but everyone said it was going to be a good game.” He carefully extracts his arm from Campbell’s grasp and stares at the ground.

I follow suit, feeling like a horrible person.

Remembering what I’d said to him when I discovered him working on campus, about how he didn’t really belong there. Now he feels the need to explain his presence, like he’s embarrassed about being at Homecoming. And suddenly, more than anything, I want to be the girl who gave him the Nike bag again, the girl who assured him of his worth rather than stripped him of it.

Campbell’s damn voice interrupts my thoughts. “Camden said he used to play football.”

Bella chews her lower lip and narrows her eyes. “I’ll bet. You lookin’ for a wide receiver these days, Camden?”

I look away, biting my cheek to keep from laughing. These girls are shameless. Good thing Camden’s well-versed in girls throwing themselves at him. I stop feeling bad for him. He can handle himself.

“Oh my gawd,” Alyssa shoves Bella. “Anyway, party’s over for us. We have to meet Maggie.” She pushes onto the balls of her toes. “We’re all going to get tattoos!” she tells Campbell.

I wince, anticipating the reaction before I even see it, or hear it.

And yup, there it is. Camden, suddenly right in front of me like a member of the King’s Guard, blocking our collective path. “Umm, Blessing’s not getting a tattoo.”

I snort. Because 1) Camden just told everyone what I was or wasn’t going to do and 2) he talked about me in the third person, like I wasn’t standing right there.

And suddenly? That girl who was caught between old Blessing and new Blessing? Jumps straight over to Team New Blessing.

My hands go to my hips. I toss my pigtails. “Yes, I am.”

“No, I don’t think you are.”

“I don’t care what you think. You don’t have jurisdiction over my body.”

That one really lights a spark. His eyes flash, and he takes a step closer. “Party’s over is right. It’s all good fun when you want to take your shots, and make your quippy little comments, but you’re not running off and getting a tattoo right now.”

I stab my index finger into his chest, right over his heart, right where I imagine its location to be. My voice is low and ferocious. “Really? You think you can fucking etch my father’s words into your skin and stand there and tell me I can’t do the same?”

Campbell lets out a low whistle. Alyssa grabs Campbell’s arm and gives her a tug, pulling her a few feet away. Bella’s watching the exchange with wide eyes, but catches on to their movement and joins them. “Yeah, I’m gonna just…”

Cam lowers his head toward mine, maybe an attempt to keep this a private conversation, but it ends with our foreheads practically touching, his eyes a mix of furious and pleading. “How far are you going to take this, huh? You’re going to do permanent damage to yourself?”

I glance pointedly at his forearm, at his tattoo. “Is that what we’re calling it these days?”

“You know what I fucking mean. A year from now, two years, whatever, you’re going to be in a different place. Hopefully. And I’m just trying to stop you from making a decision you might wish you’d made differently then.”

“It’s a tattoo, Camden. I’m not selling my soul to the devil.” I take a step back. Cross my arms over my chest. “You can’t physically stop me. You won’t go that far.”

I dare you…

He looks at me for a long time, assessing. Then he steps back. “Okay.” He nods, slowly. Then he calls to Alyssa, eyes on me. “What studio are you going to?”

“Wizard’s World.”

Camden groans, mutters something under his breath like “of course you are.”

“I’d recommend Stone’s Throw.” He’s still watching my face. “Blessing’s made up her mind, and I feel better about the safety measures there.”

I’ve made up my mind?

Shit. I swallow hard, hoping he doesn’t notice.

“In fact…” Now Camden’s digging around in his pocket. “You’ve all been drinking. How are you getting there?”

“Uber,” Bella answers.

He extracts his keys from his pocket. Throws me a challenging smirk. “If everyone’s minds are made up… I’ll drive you myself.”

Fuck. My. Life.

My journey as a romance author is deeply rooted in my personal experiences of love, loss, and resilience. The profound impact of the losses I have endured, including the passing of my grandparents and my parents, has shaped my perspective on life and love.

My own love story is one of healing and finding joy after heartache, and it mirrors the themes I explore in my novels.

As a survivor of grief and a believer in the power of love, I channel my experiences into crafting stories that resonate with the complexities and triumphs of the human heart. My writing is a testament to the idea that love can emerge from the most unexpected places, offering hope and healing.
