Some chit chat.

This week was so much better than last week. The sun was out every day and I actually got to read outside this weekend. The sun seems to draw out a lot of creatures and some came to visit. The prairie voles kept running out of the monkey grass to grab seeds and dart back in.  This drew some hawks who perched on the roof and I made sure to scare the voles back into the tall grass. I used to feed them until the hawks took advantage of this and tried to eat them when they came out.

My dog Quigley was following me off the back deck and stepped on a huge snake. This thing was so big around and at least four feet long. It struck at him but missed, luckily. With Quig being pretty much deaf, my screams to stop following it didn’t do much good. It quickly slid into some tall grass and Quig lost interest. Worried that it might not have missed when it struck out at him, I chased it out where I could get a good look at it. Turns out it was a rat snake and not something poisonous.

Whew! I checked my dog over and no bites either. That was enough nature for me, thank you very much. LOL The next time I went outside I was nervous but Quig just dropped and rolled in the grass. Big silly dog! Never saw the snake again.
