Book Description:
.
Pet lover and animal activist Pepper Peterson has a secret. She inherited the caretaker position of the notorious Hell Hounds from her deceased aunt. Every year on Halloween she opens the gates to hell and sets them free to mark the souls of the damned. Only this year she lost the magic whistle to call them home and the massive black beasts run amok causing mischief in the town.
.
Ottar Jones holds the position of senior boss man at L.A.M.P.S. (Legends and Myths Police Squad) secret government agency. Ottar appalls Pepper. He’s the most barbaric man she’s ever met, but she can’t stop thinking about the sexy brute. When he finally chooses to show up to repair her dinosaur statue, it couldn’t have happened at a worse time.
Ottar’s calendar has been packed full of mythical beasts to capture. Upon return to Haber Cove for his friend River’s wedding he has to contend with the crazy but hot vegan’s dinosaur, but a surprise awaits him. Haber Cove is infested with flesh-eating, ankle-biting Jack-a-lopes, and a pack of large black Hell Hounds. Will all hell break loose when he finds who let the dogs out? Or will Pepper turn out to be the one woman who can tame the savage Aussie hunter?
Pepper needed to put as much distance between her and Ottar as possible. That kiss. Oh my gosh.
He was a master. The possessive, wild kiss made her want to strip his clothes
and take his exquisite body next to the stream. What the heck had gotten into
her?
.
Did he really believe that crap about an attraction spell? Nonsense talking Aussie. There was
no way she spelled him while she and Abby were trying to banish the evil jinn.
Ottar must be one of those crazy conspiracy theory people, though, she’d never
pegged him as paranoid.
.
She gunned the gas and took off down the overgrown path into the forest.
.
A gunshot sounded. Pain exploded in her upper arm. Glancing down at the blood on her
sleeve, she looked up too late. A low branch smacked her across the chest. She
flew off the four-wheeler and crashed onto the ground.
,
Her body throbbed. The coolness from the dirt chilled her spine. Breathe.
.
Ottar ran toward her, screaming, with his gun drawn.
.
The bastard shot her? First her dinosaur statue and now her. What next? He’d lost his sanity.
She’d always suspected something wasn’t right with him. Now she had proof.
.
Her arm ached, and blood seeped through her sleeve. The pounding of her heart accelerated,
each beat almost blending into the next.
Ottar closed in, but she wasn’t going to let him finish the job. Was the kiss so upsetting that
he wanted to kill her?

Evil Stalks The Night
by Kathryn Meyer Griffith
Genre: Horror / Paranormal
My Review
The title for this book is perfect and so is the cover. Something stalks Sarah and her family. History is repeating itself as evil stirs in the woods and children are once again the victims of it’s wrath. Could the curse be true? And can they stop the evil before it kills again?
Kathryn never fails to keep me totally immersed in her stories. She always gives me genuine characters. And her descriptions of their lives echoes my own childhood memories. Not the scary stuff though.
The evil that stalks these people is terrifying. How the author describes the malevolent entity that can’t be seen raises the hairs on my neck. The fortitude and bravery of Kathryn’s character’s gave me hope they could vanquish the evil that has stalked their family for generations. But as things go from bad to the worst possible I had my doubts.
The fact that Sarah is a psychic and can see what may have already happened and what might be going to happen doesn’t always help her. She can’t always determine past from present, and even when she can, it doesn’t mean help will arrive in time. This unpredictability really added to the suspense and had me flying though the book.
Kathryn is on my auto read list. And she’s given me another bone chilling read.

The Monster Museum
Ellie Jordan: Ghost Trapper #10
by J. L. Bryan
Genre: Horror / Paranormal
My Review
Ellie never does an investigation by herself. That’s the number one rule. She tells herself she’s only going to go and see what the deal is. Do some research. Maybe set up some equipment. And wait for the rest of her team. But there isn’t enough time to wait. Seriously bad stuff is occurring at Dr. Weirdman’s Mountain Museum of Monsters, Curiosities, and Ancient Mysteries. Young ones are caught in the middle. They’ll all need lady luck on their side to make it through this alive.
I’ve been reading this series from the beginning and it never gets old. Ellie is my hero. She knows what’s out there, lurking unseen, waiting to harm the innocent. It’s her job to stop that from happening. People she loves have been hurt, and she’s got enough baggage to slow down a speeding train. But, she never hesitates to help someone in need.
Something I’ve been hoping for just might happen this time. Ellie used to have a significant other until he was possessed by an evil entity and she almost had to kill him. It seems he’s ready to talk, but she’s got a lot of guilt. Still loving him doesn’t mean she’s ready to let him back into her life. Who says it will ever be safe to care about someone that much again. Her life and that of those around her will always be at risk as long as she keeps doing what she does. I’d love for Ellie to have love in her life again.
One seriously creepy lizard thing creeps through the dark hallways. Stranger and stranger events happen. The suspense builds. I quickly devour every sentence, until I reach the end and immediately start thinking about what the next book might bring.
As long as the author keeps writing this series, I’ll surely keep reading it.

The museum has a serious ghost problem, though, and Ellie Jordan is called in from Savannah to help. An unexpected old friend joins Ellie at the last moment so that they can spend a snow-filled Christmas together in the mountains…if the ghosts of the restless dead don’t turn the holidays into a horrific tragedy.

A Middle Grade “Death Note”
“With great power comes great responsibility.” ~Voltaire
I have great power.
That’s what she told me. The old fortune-teller at the school carnival.
I thought I was doing the right thing … with the magic journal she gave me. But nothing could prepare me for what happened next.
Or, for what I unleashed.
At a school carnival, a mysterious fortune-teller gives twelve-year-old Angela Ashby a journal and warns her to use it wisely. Nothing prepares Angela for the journal’s power—when she pours her heart onto its pages her desires come true.
She tests the journal by conjuring a gnome, a unicorn, and a farting fairy and then uses it to stop the school bullies in their tracks. But the unintended consequences alienate her best friend and puts her favorite teacher in danger of losing her job.
After she shares her deepest desire of all—that her parents get back together—her adversary steals the journal, and Angela fears she will use it to bring mayhem to the entire school if she doesn’t get it back.

Really! Seriously! I have fallen behind in my books. Here are some I plan to get finished by the end of the year, The Deadwood series and the White Trash Zombie series.
Nine books in this series. I have all of them piled on my night stand and I’m hoping to get through them between now and the end of the year. Mind you, I said hoping! A blend or mystery, cozy and paranormal.
Deadwood Series
~~~~~
Another series I have stacked on my shelf, waiting to be read. I did read and review the first book and I’m planning to dive back into these so I can share some for Halloween. I tag these as urban fantasy, horror.
White Trash Zombie Series.
Have you read any of these?
If so, did you enjoy them?
And what do you think of the covers?
A tiny black bird, small enough to perch on my thumbnail, stood in a nest of moonstones and small sapphires. It whistled a song while flapping its wings, bobbing its head, and opening and closing its beak, hopping and turning in an amazing impression of a live animal.
When it was done, it lay down in it’s nest and the round lid of the box closed over it.
I love music boxes. I still have one with the little ballerina spinning on a mirror. Remember that one? I’m thinking there may be more to this one. Sounds almost magical.
I love this series and hope it never ends. LOL Have you read any of the books?
Adrift
Adrift #1
by K R Griffiths
Genre: Horror / Paranormal
My Review
Newlywed’s Dan and Elaine are on a honeymoon cruise. They’re starting a new life together and hoping that Dan can make more headway dealing with his agoraphobia. It sounds romantic and hopeful. Now, this is the author’s cue to toss in the monkey wrench. Dan sees what appears to be a body being tossed overboard. That mystery soon takes a back seat when a mysterious container is dropped on board and out pours things more fiendish than his phobia could dream up.
Putting a bunch of people in a life threatening situation with nowhere to run is a favorite scenario for me. I enjoy trying to guess who steps up to the plate, who tucks tail and runs and who becomes part of the menu. There’s plenty of character’s to choose from and with only a few I actually was pulling for, that left a bunch as appetizers.
Adrift would be a killer movie. A whole lot of runnin and screamin and good old horror on the high seas. I ate it up.
Synopsis
For artist Dan Bellamy and his new bride Elaine, a trip on the world’s biggest, newest cruise ship represents more than just the honeymoon of a lifetime: it is also a celebration of the progress Dan has made toward beating the agoraphobia that has plagued him since he suffered a horrific knife attack two years earlier.
The ship is a perfect floating paradise, but when Dan spots what he thinks is a body being thrown overboard, he begins to suspect that not everybody aboard the Oceanus is there for a vacation.
Soon, Dan will discover that there are some things worse than murder, and the body he saw is just the beginning. Because something is coming for the passengers on the Oceanus.
Summer and Jerry’s romantic weekend takes a dark turn when they discover
the body of a young woman in the surf.
When the local police deny the crime and the newspaper prints nothing,
Jerry and Summer realize they are on their own. But they have no idea
how deep they will have to dig to find out the truth. The murder is
only a thread in a web of lies that extends to the furthest reaches
of political office.
Are Summer’s visions to be the only clues? Jerry doesn’t think so,
his focus on good old-fashioned detective work, but when he doubts
her psychic abilities the trust between them begins to crumble.
As the days pass, Jerry and Summer come to understand that not only
their relationship, but their very lives are in jeopardy.
A terrible school shooting has the entire sleepy town of Ames in an
uproar. Who would do such a thing, and why can’t the witnesses
remember any details about the shooter?
When Summer has a visit from a ghost she’s left wondering…could
someone long dead actually heft an assault rifle?
Along with the furor over the murders, Summer is falling for Jerry again,
despite his obvious deranged state of mind. Add to that the upcoming
wedding between Sam and Agnes, and include a smattering of ghosts and
possible psychopaths to the guest list, and you have a recipe for disaster.
Summer is in Scotland doing an errand for a ghost. But when she comes face
to face with her distant past her world turns upside down.
Finlay Ross McCloud, a ghost in the Ames graveyard, has sent her on this
fool’s errand, his facts confused. And when Summer discovers the
truth she’s already in over her head.
Will she succumb to the charms of the handsome highlander she can picture
running across the moors in a kilt, or will she pull herself away
before it’s too late?
Find out in this fast-paced romantic tale of love and loss.
Akumal is beautiful, but without Jerry, Summer’s hopes of sunbathing,
margaritas, and rolling around in bed together, are ruined.
But it’s the dead body in the cenote that clinches it. Jerry is working
on a case that he never mentioned, and Summer is left out– that is
until she decides to do a little sleuthing herself.
Even with the help from ghosts and a jaguar Summer is out of her depth.
And when her life is put in in danger it is up to Jerry to save her.
Will he make it in time?
Find out by reading this fast-paced supernatural thriller.
