Death Logs Out cover

My Review

So, psycho Sindy Steele is back and she’s kidnapped Michael’s daughter, Sofia. The man called upon to rescue her has his own agenda. And Monsignor Kurt Schlegelberger senses the time has come to unleash the Free Forces Party, a group of Neo-Nazi’s bent on world domination. Can Michael and AI-Alex save the day?

Michael is a good man. A hiccup here or there, but basically a good man. But what of Alex. Now an artificial intelligence in a special computer, he can help in ways no human can. But, does he/it have a conscience?  This adds so much suspense to the story as I’m sure people somewhere are working to achieve this very thing. That realism scares me.

This is definitely the darkest of the three books. So much is happening and the story goes from one place to the next. I struggled with my review as each time I wanted to tell you about something, it would be a, you know…spoiler. At just under 300 pages, the story flies, partly due to over 100 chapters, all short and to the point. And also due to the constant action. And the ending? Let me just say, Bazinga. It’s a doozie.

A thrilling new book in the trilogy but not one I’d recommend reading without having read the others first.  It had been some time since I read the second book but the author provided some background in the beginning to help refresh my memory.

Did I enjoy this book? Sure did. Would I recommend it? Yep. If you like fast paced thrillers with cutting edge technology and plenty of villains, this is one you should read.

Synopsis

Is Alex Nicholas really dead?

Two years since the brutal shooting of Alex Nicholas, a gambling underworld boss in Queens, NYC. But his brother, Michael, a respected CEO, struggles with a secret: his murdered brother has been communicating with him via his laptop using AI. This AI-Alex can foresee dangers in Michael’s path, and appears to be trying to help him – even controlling machinery and electronics via WiFi. Meanwhile, trouble is stirring in the historic capital cities of Rome, Berlin and Paris. Inside the Vatican, Monsignor Kurt Schlegelberger has designs to build his power and prepare for the sudden ascension of the Free Forces Party, a throw-back to the Nazis.

Schlegelberger will stop at nothing, but first he must deal with a new threat: someone appears to know the true story behind a series of murders in the US, committed by clergy to cover their tracks of child abuse within the Church. Alex’s re-appearance puts Schlegelberger’s plans in jeopardy. Dead or alive, the way to finish off Alex for good can only be to get to his close family, namely his brother Michael…

This fast-paced third installment of E.J. Simon’s Death series will keep readers guessing to the very end.

Synopsis

The Island of Dr. Moreau meets “The Most Dangerous Game” by way of Michael Crichton in this suspenseful new technothriller about the dark potential of genetic engineering.

For Sydney Marlowe, getting a coveted research position with enigmatic biotech CEO Billy Sans seems like a dream come true. She and three other interns are flown halfway around the world to a remote private game reserve in Tanzania, where they will implement new zoological technologies and analyze field data over the course of two weeks.

But when local animal behavior becomes increasingly unnatural and people begin to go missing, Sydney and the others realize that something sinister is lurking beneath this paradise. The truth, however, is more horrifying than any of them could have imagined.

My Review

They’re so cute and cuddly. No one really thinks of Pandas as bears. They are every bit as dangerous as the other kinds. Long, lethal claws. Huge teeth. And a nasty disposition when riled. So what happens when an experiment triggers a latent gene, transforming one into something primal?

It took me a bit to get to know the character’s and what their roles were. I hadn’t read the first book. Once I get my facts straight the fun began. Answering a call for their special skills, a small team arrives at a zoo to round up some escaped pandas. That’s easily accomplished. But…it’s discovered another has escaped and it ain’t no ordinary panda. It’s regressed back to it’s ancestors. A leaner, meaner, hungry bear.

The team is diverse and strange. They don’t get along but function well in the field. Guess they know to work together or die. The panda is scary. It has this neat trick that makes it especially dangerous.  Figures, doesn’t it? When will people learn to leave well enough alone.

There’s lots of fun and action and intriguing characters I want to learn more about. And I’m always looking for more killer critters. I read this straight through as it’s not that long and now I want to see what else this author has to offer. I got a peek into something called Office Zombies and it should be another fun one.

Synopsis

What’s black and white, and red all over?
Pearson Granger wanted a quiet steak for breakfast, not an impossible plateful of peril. But when tech goes rogue, duty calls.

The Aftermath, Granger’s elite team of mercenaries, is sent to a breakout at Edinburgh Zoo. It looks like an easy job. Then the nightmare begins.

To survive, they must fight suspicious scientists, international intrigue—and a very angry panda with a monstrous appetite.

With his friend in mortal danger, and tensions between Mad and Delilah threatening to tear The Aftermath apart, Granger must find the strength to face the red lab’s nightmare creation alone. Survival seems impossible.

Featuring a guest appearance by Kate Marx, the Queen of Cryptozoology.

What monster lurks under Edinburgh’s ancient streets? Just how well do Pearson and Kate know one another? Can the beast be stopped? Will Mad’s appetite destroy them all? Get Second Hunger and find out today.

Second Hunger continues The Aftermath Adventures, a fun, action-packed series of compact, punchy page-turning technothrillers.

Every story stands alone. You can read them in any order. Together, they are even better.

If you like believable characters, great locations, astonishing gadgets and page-turning plots then you’ll love spending time with Pearson Granger and his team. If you like NCIS, Michael Crichton, or The A-Team, you’ll be hooked by The Aftermath Adventures.

This book is Fast Fiction: a full-fat story in bite-sized parts. With Fast Fiction, you always have time to read. Fast-paced and hard to put down, you can tear through an episode in one sitting or savour the fun, mouthful by mouthful. Whether you want to binge out, or treat yourself to just one more, there’s a great selection, with more episodes always on the way. It’s like reading your new favourite TV show.
