Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB at Books And A Beat.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read.
• Open to a random page.
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Teaser for this week is from the ARC copy of

The Spirit In St. Louis

From The Files Of The BSI

by Mark Everett Stone

Expected Publication: December 15, 2016

Genre: Fantasy / Urban Fantasy

My teaser from page 77 in the paperback.

Agent Jacobs. That’s right. Agent Jacobs. Not Dove, not the forgotten and frail lovey-dovey, but Agent Jacobs of the BSI. I worked for the best and most badass federal agency in the U.S., a woman who hacked SEAL training and could break a strong man’s arm with little effort.

I received this ARC from the publisher. I was assured you could read this as a stand alone. Good thing, as it’s book 6 in the series. I read a few paragraphs here and there in the book. One scene made me squirm. I love it! LOL

Read on if you want to know more.

The whole world now knows of the existence of the World Under, thanks to fallout from the terrible events in Omaha a year back. As the World Under’s most effective foe, Kal Hakala performed actions that were both heroic and horrific. Now, sidelined as an Agent, he serves the Bureau of Supernatural Investigation as its public face, charming talk show hosts and training new recruits known as “Green Peas.” However, the World Under never rests, and events force Kal back into action. A malevolent spirit occupies St. Louis’s Quint Building, and the team sent in to combat it disappears after their leader is driven to suicide. The BSI has no choice but to send in Kalevi Hakala and his team to solve the problem. As each of the individual members of Kal’s team is isolated and dumped into his or her private hell, Kal begins to wonder if he hasn’t finally met his match: the most powerful force the World Under has to offer. Book 6 in the From the Files of the BSI series.

My teaser is from my novel, Operation Mermaid: The Project Kraken Incident. The teaser is from page 3 of the book.

Agent Starling and I went to the residence of Michelle Bergin, [address redacted], San Diego, CA. This was the day after the Great Transformation. We were informed by the Secretary that there were 4 new mermaids in San Diego that required our personal attention.

    We knocked on the door.

It is May 2026 when a strange anomaly transforms thousands of women around the world into mermaids. As Homeland Security agents begin investigating, they record their observations in a classified United States government report. There is no question that Operation Mermaid, originally founded in 1949, is back in full swing. Days later as several mermaids practice swimming in the open water, one finds a relic inside a shipwreck. Inside are plans for an abandoned Cold War era weapon known as Project Kraken. As a scientist’s true identity is revealed, a Second Transformation rocks the world, increasing the size and scope of the mermaid population once again. As relationships change between mermaids, sirens, and the government, only time will tell if a worldwide disaster has been averted. In this intriguing science fiction tale, the lives of newly-initiated mermaids are intertwined with a failed Cold War project, leaving government agents to solve a complex puzzle.

    I’m all for bad-ass heroines.

  6. I do love bad-ass characters, and the intensity here drew me in. Here’s mine: “THE KEPT WOMAN”

  7. It is always hard for me to jump into the middle of a series.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m ‘notorious’ for doing just that. LOL I was assured by the publisher that it won’t be an issue with this book. I do usually go back and read the others though.

  8. sjhigbee says:

This one sounds like a real thriller – I like the fact that you can jump into the series without too much trouble at Book 6… How are you getting on with it?

  9. OH NO. Forgot to do my TT. Oh well, there is always next week. This sounds like a good one.
