This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Sunday Post

Some chit chat.

It’s been interesting since my last Sunday post. Hurricane Nate came in late Saturday night. It was super windy and tons of rain. But no major damage. It did blow down all the pecans in my trees. It sounded like bombs going off. I went out Sunday morning and there were thousands of them on the back porch and in the front and back yard.

I’ve been gathering them up and the pecan wholesaler opens Monday. Hoping for a good price as these are Elliot’s, the cream of the crop. We’ll see.

And I’ve got some iffy news about my bananas. The batch was on the tallest tree and it was above the roof line. The winds blasted it and broke it. Dang it!

They actually are still growing and looking better than the first few attempts. The top of the tree is bent over but still green so who knows. I think they were protected hidden between the other trees and might make it. Those pale yellow flowers are now getting longer and becoming little bananas. Cross you finger that they keep going! I know they look small but this is when the actually banana forms and gets  bigger.

Happy Sunday everyone!

  1. Greg Hill says:

Ooh good luck w/ the pecans! Glad you didn’t have any serious damage. Quite the season down there this year. 🙂

    Hope the bananas are okay…

Murder in the Neighborhood looks fun, and love that cover for Tales of Horror on Halloween Night.

    • fuonlyknew says:

We still have until the end of November for hurricane season. Crossing my fingers it’s over for our area. Tales of Horror was a fun collection and I do love the murder mysteries and cozies .

  2. I recently discovered The Death Doll but I’m in two minds about it as the reviews are very vague on WHY it is ‘different’ which is annoying. I’ll be curious to see what you think about it.

  3. I hope you’ll get a good price for your pecans, Laura! And that your bananas will grow enough for you to harvest and eat them 😉
Only one book? Way to go – even if you have lots you haven’t decided on just yet.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m thinking the price will be good as the season will now be short. The bananas are actually looking pretty good right now. As long as we don’t get a cold spell for a bit. Yep, one book. LOL

  4. The pecans looks great. I love them but my husband is not a big fan. Glad you had no real damage from the storm. It’s been a heck of a stormy season huh? Death Doll looks pretty interesting. I’m hoping I can read later today because I’ve not been much in the mood to do so all weekend. Have a great week and keep the scary books coming.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m gathhering the pecans now. I have a lot of trees and the warehouse is now open and buying them. Who says money doesn’t grow on trees! LOL

  5. Wow, impressive reading list this week! Good luck with the pecans…and sorry about the bananas.

Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m reading like crazy. LOL Easy to dp this month as it’s all horror, my fav genre. The pecans are delicious and my bananas seem to be okay. Should see them take shape soon.

  6. Those pecans look great. One of my favorite things when I was little was using the nutcracker to crack open pecans and eat them. Sorry to hear about your taller banana tree! I hope it will bounce back.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I love the old time nutcrackers. The cast iron ones with fun shapes. Crossing my fingers as the flowers are trying to become bananas.

  7. OMG look at all those yummy pecans!!! Glad you survived the hurricane with just a little damage. Hope you can get a good price for those as they look yummy, if I lived closer I would be over there grabbing some…lol.

I am loving all your horror reviews this month!! 🙂

    Stormi
    Week in Review

    • fuonlyknew says:

I was getting them sorted to take to the wholesaler tomorrow and ate a bunch. Yummy! LOL I wish you lived closer, Stormi. We’d have so much fun together:)

  8. Wow-pecans and bananas!! That is super cool. Hopefully the hurricane didn’t destroy everything.
    Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

So far so good with the pecans and the bananas. And my miniature orange tree is blooming and getting ready to give me some yummy oranges this winter. I eat them peel and all.

  9. Yvonne says:

Glad you didn’t have any major damage after the hurricane. I have a few of those freebies, too. Your review books all look really good. Hope you have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Thanks. No damage, just lots of limbs and my pool was full of leaves. I’m tearing through the scary reads for my October feature and having fun.

  10. sjhigbee says:

Best of luck with the price of your pecans – and I’m fascinated to see if your baby bananas turn into mama and papa bananas:). Have a great week, Laura – and thank you for reading Running Out of Space!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m eating a bunch of the pecans and packaging some for friends and family. I have several kinds of pecans and they all sell for different prices. It’s great extra income but a pain to get them ready. LOL Guess I shouldn’t complain as its money from trees. And I’m thrilled to read your book. So happy I got a copy!

  11. Oh no, the poor bananas. Yum, I love pecans. Murder in the Neighborhood has such a pretty fall cover. Have a lovely week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I think the bananas might be okay. Have to wait and see. And the pecans are yummy. I love that cover too. Couldn’t resist it:)

  12. Great reading week for you. Sending good thoughts your way for a good pecan price!

  13. jpschaper says:

Sorry to hear about your trees! You got a lot of books reviewed this past week. Keep up the great work and have a wonderful week.
    My STS/Sunday Post

  14. How lovely to have that all growing in your garden! Sorry to hear about your banana plant breaking. Glad you’re safe though. 🙂

Oh, yes, another great book choice! Thanks!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I love all of the different growing things. LOL My miniature orange tree is getting ready to give me some sweet little oranges this winter.

  15. It’s so interesting to read about your pecans and bananas! I hope you get a great price for the pecans and that the bananas turn out great!

  16. I love bananas. I’m a banana girl. So cool what you’re doing. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your books. Have a wonderful week. ?❤️

  17. S glad you didn’t have any major damage from Nate. Hope you were able to sell all those pecans. Lots of dark and creepy reads last week!

  18. Lily Blain says:

aww shoot hope you will still be able to sell the nuts! Aww lucky you can grow bananas in your climate. I hope this time it works out 😀

    • fuonlyknew says:

I too some in yesterday and got a very good price so I’ll be spending all of my spare time gathering more. Money grows on trees!

  19. Melissa (My World...in words and pages) says:

So glad to hear no major damage and you are safe. That’s very good. Sorry to hear about your banana branch though. And neat with the pecans. Hope you got the good price. 🙂 Have a great week!

  20. I cannot believe I have missed this many of your posts! We fished up the interviews we have been doing at work, so I will hopefully have more time to do blogging things.

It was lucky the hurricane came when tne nuts were already ripe. It’s great you have so many that you can sell them. I didn’t realize there were different varieties! I love pecans. I use them instead of walnuts in recipes because I don’t care for walnuts. ?

I am happy you didn’t get any storm damage to the house! I hope you have been having a wonderful month. ☺

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve been posting a lot this month. Got my 31 Days Of Thrills And Chills and trying to share some great tours and dong my memes. Keeping me busy! I made some money on the first bunch of pecans. Too much rain since then and they’re not any good now. Darn it.
