What I Am Reading, Again ~ Horror / Thriller/ Supernatural Edition

Every now and then I like to go back and reread a book. Especially ones I loved. I find that I discover something new no matter how many times I’ve read the book. Just like when I watch a good movie again.  I also discovered that I don’t always enjoy some books as much the second time around. Usually this occurs with ones I read some time ago.

When I feel a reading slump coming on or I just can’t decide what to read next ( me being lazy) I stand in front of my book shelf that holds all of my most favorite books and choose one to read again. It allows me to just relax and enjoy the story instead of always thinking about the review that needs to be written after finishing a new one.

Here are some I have stacked and ready to read again over the summer. I’m sure I’ll be adding more to this. My son spied me standing, staring at my books, and thought something was wrong with me. I had this seriously screwed up look, he said. I told him that’s my I’m thinking face. He said I looked like I was in pain. I know I mentioned rereading a favorite is relaxing, but not choosing which one. LOL

Most of these are a series and I’ll read every one. I do love to binge a series!

What about you. Do you read a book more than once?  Do you have a go to book that you read many times? And why do you reread a book?

choosing is always a problem for me. new books old book favorite books. I don’t like choosing. sometimes I think I should just put the titles in a hat a and draw.

  2. I keep my best books so I can enjoy rereading them. Trouble is, in the last 5 or 6 years I just haven’t had time for it!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I have two big shelves just for ones I know I’ll read again. Looks like I might need another shelf too!

  3. Laura….so tickled that one of the books you’d read again is my Dinosaur Lake. And to think, in 1993, that was the book my then-publisher Zebra (I had a new editor) decided at the very last minute (cover and final editing was done…six weeks from the shelves) NOT to publish as my 5th paperback (he said “No one wants to read about dinosaurs!”) with them and, disgusted, I hid the manuscript away for 20 years and in 2012 revised it and self-published it. It has been and started my best selling ever series. Writing #5 this year. Hey, though, if you’re looking for a good horror novel to read how about my “Evil Stalks the Night” or “The Last Vampire”? I’ll send you either one.

I love your Dinosaur Lake series! So excited that you will be releasing another one in the series. I can’t begin to imagine what you have cooked up for us! LOL By all means, send away. I’ll read any books you write!

  4. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I never could get into those Desperation & Regulators books. All I remember is TAACKKK over and over again. It probably didn’t help that I listened on audio.Have fun with your rereads!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yeah, hearing that over and over again might be irritating. LOL Didn’t bother me in the movie though. Have you seen Desperation?

  5. I don’t reread much but after just listening to Blood Rites by Jim Butcher, I think I could go back to the beginning and listen to this series again (even though I am nowhere near finishing it), just because I love listening to James Marster read to me. 🙂

I still need to read They Rise!

    • fuonlyknew says:

They Rise was a good one. I’m going to do more of these features as I have so many more books and authors that I reread!

  6. Laura
sure. I’m sending you those two horror novels right now. Evil Stalks the Night was my first ever published novel in 1984…where has the time gone? The Last Vampire almost won a HWA (Horror Writer’s of America) award in 1993 (it was a finalist but didn’t actually win) and it was also the 2012 EPIC EBOOK AWARDS “Finalist* in their horror category. Mobi format, right?
Oh, Laurie, what does TAACKKK mean? (Just curious.)

    • fuonlyknew says:

I got them. Thanks! I have a long weekend coming up and will be diving in. I’m not sure what TAACKKK means. It’s either something’s name or a name for what it is. LOL Have to reread the books to remember, I guess:)

  7. I need to reread Annie Walls series before the next book.

  8. A Renfro says:

I rarely re-read a book. Just so many to read it is hard to find time to re -read. It is one I have re-read. Just such a great book.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I have a feeling some of yours will be showing up on one of my lists! And you know how much I love Mike Beem:)

  9. Have a happy binge….I rarely reread books any more…so many out there I can’t wait to find the next knock my socks off read.

    Great choices!

  11. The last comment via my email brought me back to this blog and my eyes fell on Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz…and reminded me of a fond old memory. In 1990 I needed an agent and some advice in my writing career and sent (how naive I was back then) three letters out to three big horror writers of the time. Only one replied with advice. Dean Koontz (and his wife was on the phone, as well) called me one rainy fall night and the two of them talked a long time to me. I was so excited as I had adored his early Twilight Eyes novel He sent me to my first agent (no longer my agent as now I only self-publish) and answered most of my (probably silly) questions. He is such a kind man and a great writer; still turning the books out, too.

  12. What is that Rachman/King thing all about? Two short stories with a common thread? I love the cover art. 👍

    • La La.
Richard Bachman was the pseudonym Stephen KIng published a couple of his unpublished earlier novels under (long after he’d become famous) to see if they would sell just on their own merit. An experiment King tried. I don’t think they sold well at all and suddenly it was leaked out to who Richard Bachman really was and the books then sold like hotcakes.

      • fuonlyknew says:

I just reread his book The Long Walk. In the beginning he talks about the leak of his real name and how he used that to write his book The Dark Half.

I loved the Odd Thomas series!
