Murder At The Zoo
by Marcia Rosen
.
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Synopsis
A body is tossed into the lion’s habitat at the zoo where Miranda Scott is the senior vet. She and Detective Bryan Anderson join forces to unravel that mystery and several more murders. A fan since childhood of Agatha Christie, Raymond Chandler, and Sherlock Holmes they seem to live in her head frequently telling her what to do…and not do. Murders, family, deceit, revenge and a gangster father and godfather often get in the way of a fine romance between Miranda and the Detective.

Enjoy this exclusive peek inside:
Miranda turned onto Rio Grande Boulevard, then on to 10th Street and into the Zoo’s parking area for staff. The main gate for visitors was closed, and as she drove in the press shouted questions at her. Police cars had filled almost a dozen parking spaces.
Miranda slammed the door of her car, not that it would help anything. Ignoring everyone else, she spent ten minutes with Emma and several staff members determining the best way to get the arm out of the lions’ habitat.
“John, once the lions are in their indoor area, you’ll need to collect the arm quickly.”
John Lynch was the lead lion-keeper and knew best how to get in and out of there…fast.
Everyone was silent as he entered the lion’s enclosure.
Only a few clicks of some press photographers’ cameras were heard. There was silence, until John was safe. He had placed the arm and a few small un-chewed pieces of the body in an evidence bag provided by the police.
Miranda grabbed it from him.
“Miranda, give that to me or I swear I’ll throw you in jail,” Detective Bryan Anderson’s very unpleasant partner, Thomas Wilson, clearly did not appreciate her.
This was not their first unpleasant encounter. Nor bound to be their last.
“I need photos of this for our work. Take me to jail. First, I’ll gladly throw you to the lions.”
After taking a dozen photos she began to walk away with the arm. She loved annoying Detective Wilson.
There were teeth marks where the lion had bitten off what was certainly a man’s arm. He had a large ring on his pinkie finger and a tattoo on his left arm.
Miranda was sure she had seen a tattoo like that before.
