About Kate Parker

Kate Parker caught the reading bug early, and the writing bug soon followed. She’s always lived in a house surrounded by books and dust bunnies. After spending a dozen years in North Carolina, she moved to Colorado. The Rocky Mountains are beautiful, but she’d developed a love of wide rivers, warmer and wetter weather, and fast-growing greenery that sent her hurrying back to North Carolina.

Deadly Travel is the fifth book in the Deadly Series, and Kate’s plan is to follow it quickly with Deadly Darkness, both set in 1939 in the days leading up to war. There are at least three more of the Deadly Series coming that will bring the beginning of the war to Olivia’s doorstep. Kate reports that she is having fun creating new stories to entertain readers and chaos to challenge her characters.

Murder, Forgotten

by Deb Richardson-Moore

on Tour October 1-16, 2020

.

51074799

Synopsis:

.

With the publication of ‘Murder, Forgotten’, Deb Richardson-Moore departs from her popular Branigan Powers series and introduces us to an unforgettable protagonist and a heart-pounding mystery that explores the vagaries of the mind and the way our memory often betrays us. The themes are both universal and personal at once. How does grief alter one’s memory? Is there more truth in fiction than in reality? This novel will have readers questioning their own motivations and that of the protagonist, Julianna Burke.

.

Julianna is a mystery writer who is famous for her ‘wanderings’ – eventually returning to her writing desk with exciting plot twists. But lately, she has nothing to show for her creative work. She fears her memory is slipping, and with it her heralded career.

Then her beloved husband and business partner is murdered. The police look at workmen, extended family and neighbors, but Julianna fears something far worse. Could she, deep in the writing of her latest mystery, ‘Murder, Forgotten,’ have acted out the fictional murder? In this plot within a plot, she seeks to find the killer. Can she find the truth when she questions her own reality?

Murder, Forgotten‘ takes us from coastal South Carolina to the eastern shores of Scotland in a sweeping mystery that explores Julianna, grief-stricken and wounded, as she searches for truth in the midst of her own fiction.

Read an excerpt:

FROM CHAPTER 2 –

In the days following Connor’s death, Logan had spent more time with her mother than in the past several years. Julianna had gone to stay with her neighbor, Liza Holland, and had moved through Liza’s house like a ghost – or a mental patient. She had appeared vacant at the funeral, with Margot hovering at her elbow to cover her lapses with both local mourners and New York publishing executives. Just last week, after deputies allowed Julianna back into this house, Logan had brought dinner. Through all that, her mother had never mentioned a new book. But then she wouldn’t have. She was spacey at the best of times. After Connor’s death, her sleep became more disrupted, her empty stares more pronounced, her answers more nonsensical. Frankly, Logan had been relieved when Margot whisked her out of the country. But if you didn’t have to deal with the real Julianna Burke, the thought of a new Julianna Burke mystery was delicious. Logan would snuggle into bed sooner than she had planned and see what Martin Engler’s problem was. But first, she had to lock up downstairs. She stood, nearly tripping over Annabelle, who’d followed her into Julianna’s room unnoticed. The dog whimpered. “I know, baby girl,” Logan said. “Your mama will come back. I promise. But you get to sleep in my room tonight. How’s that?” Annabelle trotted out of the room and dashed to Logan’s childhood bedroom. She sat at the door, looking up expectantly. “Back in a flash,” Logan assured her. She walked down the stairs and through the living quarters, turning off a living room lamp, rechecking the security alarm, and locking the door that led from the kitchen on to rickety side stairs. Circling back, she saw the glow from her mother’s office. She knew she’d left a light on, but the hairs on the back of her neck bristled nonetheless. She’d never been afraid in this house, not once, not even as a teen left alone overnight when her mother and Connor remained in Columbia or Greenville or Asheville after a book signing. “The neighbors are so close,” she’d whined in her successful campaign of persuasion not to be dragged along. But those close neighbors hadn’t prevented Connor’s murder. For that matter, neither had the other two people in the house. Logan took a steadying breath and returned to the office, the black binder still in her hand. She reached to turn off the desk lamp but then thought about this treasure she’d unearthed in Connor’s bedside table. What else might there be? Resolutely turning her back on the blood-stained chair, she pulled open the slender top drawer of her mother’s desk. She felt guilty for a moment. Though she’d talked to her distracted mother from the office doorway or slouched on the couch as a teen seeking permission for one thing or another, she’d never been alone in this space. *** Excerpt from Murder, Forgotten by Deb Richardson–Moore. For diner owner Gia Morelli, her seasonal fall menu calls for two main ingredients—maple syrup and murder . . .

On a scramble to make new fall memories—and promote her irresistible pumpkin spice waffles—things take a dark turn when she gets roped into the Haunted Town Festival, a spooky celebration held on deserted farmlands. The desolate area conjures plenty of eerie vibes at night, but Gia and her best friend, Savannah, are nearly frightened to death upon the discovery of the event organizer’s body buried in the nearby woods. More alarming, the local rumor mill says the woman’s shady dealings may have egged someone into sending her to an early grave. Now, there’s no shortage of creepy clues to feast on as Gia and her pals try to stop a killer with a very scary appetite . . .

Stillwell
A Haunting on Long Island Book 1
by Michael Phillip Cash
Genre: Paranormal Thriller Mystery
.

My Review

I’m always in for a haunting tale. This was really good.

You have a man who has lost his wife to illness. He’s coping with grief and struggling to take care of his children.

Finally, he goes back to work, taking a listing for a mansion that’s purported to be haunted. He quickly discovers it is. And also finds out an evil entity is holding his wife’s spirit captive.

There’s also something strange happening with one of his children. The young one is being haunted in his dreams and awakens many nights terrified by horrific nightmares.

It’s all he can do to keep it together. So many demons to battle, real and otherwise, past and present.

Michael’s characters are always genuine. They could easily be someone you know. In Stillwell, I feel he dug real deep for these characters. You can’t help but empathize with some of them. Loathe others. And hope you never meet some in a dark alley.

The author gives you a solid mystery, some eerie interludes, and enough creepy atmosphere to make your hairs stand on end and keep you looking over your shoulder at every tiny noise.

If you’re a fan of hauntings, this is one for you.

4 Stars

.

Not even her impending nuptials can keep Lucy Berberian, manager of her family-owned Kebab Kitchen, from the Jersey Shore’s annual Polar Bear Plunge. But her dive into the icy ocean is especially chilling when she finds a fellow swimmer doing the dead man’s float—for real . . .

Who would kill a man in cold blood during Ocean Crest, New Jersey’s most popular winter event? When Lucy learns the victim is Deacon Spooner, the reception hall owner who turned up his nose—and his price—at her wedding plans, she can’t help wondering who wouldn’t kill the pompous caterer . . .

Perhaps the culprit is the wedding cake baker whose career Deacon nearly destroyed? Or the angry bride whose reception he ruined? With her maid of honor, Katie, busily planning Lucy’s wedding without her, Lucy will have to get to the bottom of this cold-hearted business in time for Kebab Kitchen’s mouthwatering Christmas celebration—and before her hometown’s holiday spirit washes out to sea . . .

Some chit chat.

Hurricane Sally unleashed a huge can of whoop ass on me. My front porch got torn all up. The roof has to be replaced but I didn’t get flooded. And my huge pecan tree fell in the back yard, tearing up the back patio and landing on my pool. I’ve been through plenty of hurricanes, some bigger than Sally, but I’ve never been so scared. I went to bed around 10 p.m. when the power went out. It was a Category 1. I woke up around 3 A.M. and the wind was blowing so hard it sounded like harmonics out there. My son and I huddled in the hallway until daylight and the wind died down some. We were without power for around a week and a half and over two weeks without internet service. The clean up will be ongoing for months. Trees are still laying in yards and on houses. We are so thankful to be okay. As soon as I get things more managed, I’ll start visiting everyone’s posts again.

Due to the hurricane I won’t be doing my 31 Days Of Thrills And Chills feature this month. It’s such fun and I hate not doing it but I don’t have time to sit down and write reviews for every day of October. I’ll be doing it again next year though. And I might try something similar for Christmas. We’ll see.

Stay safe and take care!
