Bob at the Lake Banner copy may 9th

I have such a fun show and tell for you today.

I’ll be reviewing Bob at the Lake and will also give you a glimpse inside the book.

There’s also an awesome giveaway, so don’t forget to enter!

But first let’s get to the interview!

Hey, Laura, before we get started with our interview, I just have to tell you how much Bob and I enjoyed our brief visit with you and your great readers in February. I’m so glad we’re able to spend a bit more time here today. Thanks so much for inviting us back!   Roz

Thank you Roz. I’m thrilled to have ya’ll back again. So let’s not keep everyone waiting.

1)     I’ve never read anything quite like Bob at the Lake. Very refreshing. Are either of your characters derived from someone you know and, if not, where do they come from?

Thanks so much for your compliment, Laura! There is SO MUCH formulaic, cookie-cutter writing out there right now that the fact that you think my writing is a little off the beaten path is about the highest praise you could send my way. You’ve made my day! As for the characters… I wanted to spend my writing time with a single woman trying to survive the Great Recession, on her own with only a handful of assets. How do single people–who have no soft place to land if they fail–survive? I wish I could tell you where my characters came from; I’m kind of curious myself!

2)     What was the easiest part to write in the book?

My descriptions of the beautiful Finger Lakes scenery were the easiest things to write in this book. Even after living on this lake for years, my breath still catches with wonder sometimes when I look out the window. And our local wines? OMG, so amazing…

3)     What was the hardest part to write in the book?

It took me several tries before I came up with Roz’s ‘voice.’ Once I could articulate that, everything else started to come together.

4)     If your book was made into a movie, who would you cast for your characters?

I know David would be some blissfully yummy combination of Tom Selleck and Colin Firth, and I always picture Kelsey Grammer (when he played Frasier) as Bob. As for Roz, that’s a little tougher. Sandra Bullock’s comic timing would be great, but she’d have to bulk up a bit and not look so dismayingly perfect all the time.

5)     Are you working on anything now, and would you like to tell us a little about it?

In my next Bob book, Roz goes toe-to-toe in a competition with the ghostly members of the Algonquin Round Table. I can’t quite decide if the scene is terrifying or hysterical; probably a little bit of both, as usually seems to be the case in Roz’s world.

6)     What do you do to relax?

In the summer I reinforce the stone wall that theoretically prevents the lake from joining me in my living room during the April floods. If you’re ever out on Crooked Lake, I’ll be the idiot standing knee-deep in water shoveling shale and piling rocks into a wall. I also love music of all sorts, ballroom dancing, opera, and financial planning (yup, sorry about that last one, but it’s true…)

7)     What makes you laugh?

The pitch-perfect timing and ensemble playing in The Big Bang Theory. My sisters. The antics of my extended family. Reader’s Digest jokes. Thurber. Benchley.

8)     Is there anything you’d like to share with other authors about your experiences in publishing?

The constant message to new writers from my wonderful and supportive fellow authors at Soul Mate Publishing is the need to enhance your social media presence. While I completely agree with them, I’d also add that you need to drive yourself to create the best book you can possibly write. Rewrite, polish, rewrite…and then polish some more…

Now I like to do 5 fun shorts.

1)     Swimming pool or beach? Ex-Jersey Girl here. Beach, beach, BEACH!!!

2)     Sandals or high heels? Sandals.

3)     Salty or sweet snacks? Dove Solid Dark Chocolate Easter Eggs. I buy POUNDS of them during Lent and stash them in the depths of my freezer for year-round snacking. (Why do people eat chocolate with corners? I could never figure that out.)

4)     Favorite beverage? Coffee. Couldn’t live without it. (I could live without a good Riesling wine–but I wouldn’t be very happy about it.)

5)     Eat out or cook? Eat out. ABSOLUTELY!

Really creative and fun interview questions, Laura. Thanks so much for sending them my way! R.

BLURB

Take a crabby woman of a certain age, move her to the wintry shores of a New York lake, and then throw in a martini-loving ghost from 1920s Manhattan. Last, stir in the good-looking grape grower who lives up the hill. Now there’s a recipe for a potent screwball cocktail!

MY REVIEW

Having gone through the Great Recession, I felt so many connections in this book.

Roz purchased a second house on the shores of Crooked Lake in West New York and then everything fell apart. She got a divorce and the recession hit and her job went elsewhere leaving her with no choice but to live at the lake house and make a go of it with her freelance writing.

It wasn’t long before she met Bob, a ghost with a taste for martinis. Finding out why he was there and what it would take to make him go away was a rip tearing good time for me.

How do you take your ghost? Shaken or stirred?

I thought Bob, being a ghost, would be my favorite character. Not so. While I loved Bob and his humor, which was as dry as his martinis, Roz was the one I felt most connected to.

Being a woman ‘of a certain age’ myself, it was nice to have the protagonist portrayed by one also. It made it easy to connect with Roz and her thoughts and actions were that much more believable. She felt familiar, so like me.

I too have a tradition of spending the week between Christmas and New Years holed up at home, eating the goodies I got, drinking lots of tea, and reading, reading, reading. I too love Irish Breakfast Tea and white wines. But I don’t live in a lake house and I don’t have a Bob.

Roz took me along on her new journey of the Finger Lakes, introducing me to her strange next door neighbors, taking me wine tasting at the local wineries, and keeping me up all night to meet her writing deadlines.

“…it’s hard to describe a good wine; it’s as hard as describing a kiss.”

As the author places her in predicament after predicament I was waiting for her to call for help. And who’s she gonna call? Bob, that’s who. Granted he wasn’t always helpful, and could get her in even bigger pickles, like the time the display got broken in the store and she was kicked out, but sometimes he had good ideas. Roz just had to weed them out.

He can also be tender and quite debonair. Also light on his feet, and no, not from his martinis. Wait until you go to the ball on the lake.

What you get in Bob at the Lake is a story that reads like real life. There’s a character with some years and experience, a ghost who mixes delicious martinis, some local color, a slow blooming romance with a sexy grape grower, and laughs that keep on coming.

And now a peek inside Bob at the Lake

“At this point, it might be appropriate to interject a few words about me, your narrator. Decades ago, people used to have a phrase for me: a woman of a certain age. Back then, everyone knew what that phrase meant: ‘Young enough to want to (fill in the name of your favorite venial sin here); old enough to know better.’ The phrase implies a certain amount of polish, a certain amount of experience. A woman who’s been knocked down by life, still has the energy to get off the floor, and has learned lessons from her fall. Back then, women of a certain age were hard-bitten newspaperwomen, or glamorous, mysterious divorce co-respondents in courtroom dramas, who wore elegant hats with veils down to their chins. I associate them with words like peplum, and negligee, and I know they were all blondes who wore daring designer suits and genuine silk stockings.

I wish I could afford to wear daring designer suits. Instead my everyday clothes typically involve some form of denim. And, although my short, wavy brunette hair usually has some highlights of blond, the quantity of highlights tends to vary proportionally to my bank balance. The more money I have, the blonder I get.

I don’t know how to assign a specific age to a woman of a certain age in the twenty-first century. It’s especially confusing these days, when forty is the new twenty and fifty is the new thirty. I think it’s mostly a matter of mind and experience.

Anyway, back to our story…

bob at the lake roz murphy (2)

Roz Murphy is the pseudonym of a shy, retiring writer who doesn’t want her neighbors to know how nutty she really is. Brooklyn-born and Jersey-bred, Roz now lives on the misty shore of one of New York’s beautiful Finger Lakes. Prior to that, her business writing career took her to many locations, including Manhattan, where she worked for a number of years. As a freelance and corporate writer, Roz won several national and international writing and communications awards.

Now Roz is pursuing her first love—fiction. She’s writing the ‘Bob’ books, the humorous chronicle of a crabby ‘woman of a certain age’ who moves to the wintry shores of a New York lake—and gets a ghost. And not just any ghost, mind you. Bob’s a plump, middle-aged ghost from 1920s Manhattan who swans around in a silk smoking jacket and drinks far too many martinis. Stir the good-looking grape grower who lives up the hill into this mix and you get a pretty potent screwball cocktail!

When she’s not reading, writing, hill-walking, staring mindlessly out the window at the lake or piling rocks onto her ever-diminishing lakefront, you can usually find Roz hanging out with her family, travelling, or exploring the amazing wines and wineries of the Finger Lakes.

‘Bob at the Lake’ is exclusively available as a Kindle download from Amazon. Please join Roz Murphy Author on FaceBook for updates on the many adventures of Roz, David—and Bob.

Severed Ties Banner copy

Looking for something new to read? Check out Severed Ties by Angie Skelhorn.

I have an excerpt for ya and an awesome giveaway!

SeveredTies cover

1771e-addtogoodreadsblack

Blurb

Severed Ties is a story of close friendships, addiction and magic.

By the use of divination and magic, some ties can never be severed. In the beginning, by the light of the Full Moon, Frankie connects with Candice’s energy through dream time and witnesses her involvement in a terrifying act of violence. After receiving information from Sandra that their childhood friend is missing, they pack their bags and head to the inner city to find her. Frankie, afraid for her own safety, has a chance encounter with a local named Calvin who is plugged into what’s happening. Using his workable ideas-as well as Frankie and Sandra consulting tarot, ordinary playing cards, astrology, and spell-casting-they set forth to free Candice from the dangerous situation she is in.

~~~
Excerpt
A few minutes later, the two stepped on to the bus. They wheeled their luggage down the narrow aisle. Sandra sat at the very back and prepared to read maps and travel info. Frankie chose the window seat ahead of her. Passengers read or conversed, others prepared to watch movies on their laptops. The uniformed driver boarded the bus and swaggered his way to the back, carefully examining every ticket. He walked to the front of the vehicle, sat, and then revved the motor for departure.
“Ready, set, go, Frankie?” Sandra asked as the bus driver revved the motor, again.
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” she sighed
The bus pulled out of the station. Sandra didn’t look up from her maps. She was quiet studying the travel information. Frankie stared out the gritty window, her mind flooded with childhood memories. The bus passed the tiny, brick building where she had attended school. They drove alongside the train tracks where she would watch the trains and imagine the destination, as well as the forest where she first practiced spell crafting. Every recollection included Sandra and Candice. The tender memories of her small town affected her emotions. She was aware of what she was leaving behind. She was about to leave her security for the unknown.
She didn’t know why, but she knew when she returned, she wouldn’t be the same person she was today.
As Eran’s feet left the ground, he found me in the crowd and gave me one final burning look. There was something in his eyes now, not pride at having subdued Jacob or to impress upon me the importance of the lesson he’d just demonstrated. All that seemed to have been forgotten. No, what I saw was intense curiosity. And just before he broke our gaze to adjust his sight on the route they were taking, I was certain that he felt the same way I did…that he wished he understood what had just happened between us.
As the rest of us watched in awed silence, I couldn’t help but notice that, in a way similar to the messengers on their arrival, Eran’s group departed with the same close-knit familiarity.
“Who are they?” I asked, my head still tilted back.
“Part of a legion,” Daniel replied.
Despite my seclusion, I’d heard of legions. There were several of them, each with a primary purpose. “Which one?”
“The one that oversees castigated entities.”
“Those who have wronged humankind?”
“Yes, the Fallen Ones,” confirmed Daniel.
I’d heard of them, too. In passing.
“And Eran’s a part of that legion?”
“No,” Daniel said with a subdued chuckle. “Not a part of, the leader of. He’s their colonel.”
“Colonel?” I said, finally lowering my head.
Eran had been out of sight for a while, but this was the first time I’d felt enough conviction to look away.
“You really have no idea who he is, do you?” Daniel was astonished.
“No.”
He didn’t reply for what felt like a very long time. “Eran has been credited with keeping the most dangerous entities from committing further atrocious acts while they are sentenced to an eternity on earth.”
“You mean his legion has,” I corrected him.
“No, I mean Eran. There is a reason why he is renowned. When the most vicious of the Fallen Ones are too much for others in the legion to handle, they request Eran, which is to say that he pursues and restrains those who all others cannot handle.”
“That takes skill,” Jacob muttered, stretching a kink from his neck.
Daniel chuckled at the understatement. “Some of which you just witnessed…personally,” he added.
I didn’t share Daniel’s humor, being too preoccupied by who I’d just met, and how his attention had been so finely tuned to me. “Do you think he’ll be back?”
“Eran?” Daniel said. “It’s possible. I’ve heard every action he makes is deliberate…calculated. He was here with a reason today. If he returns, he’ll have a reason then too.”
Jacob groaned, evidently not anticipating Eran’s return. “Next time you can spar with him.”
Daniel chuckled. “I’d think our time would be better spent training the messengers, which is something we should probably return to…,” he hinted.
Jacob nodded, rubbing the side of his neck where I remember a vine had hit him. Daniel pitied his friend through a quiet, suppressed laugh, wrapping a friendly arm across Jacob’s shoulders and walking him toward the waiting group. But my attention drifted back to the sky where Eran had disappeared.
The anticipation of seeing him again proved too much and my insides were ignited in a way I’d never felt before. That searing pleasure worked its way through my belly, and as much as I wanted to dwell in that sensation, I had to force myself to ignore it. There was work to be done and that feeling was a distraction.
Resigned to concentrate on my task at hand, I joined the messengers shortly after, but not before peering back for one more lingering glance at the sky.
The mer feud has been settled, but life in South Louisiana still has more twists and turns than the muddy Mississippi. New Orleanians are under attack from a copycat killer mimicking the crimes of a 1918 serial murderer known as the Axeman of New Orleans.
Thanks to a tip from the undead pirate Jean Lafitte, DJ Jaco knows the attacks aren’t random–an unknown necromancer has resurrected the original Axeman of New Orleans, and his ultimate target is a certain blonde wizard.
Namely, DJ. Fighting off an undead serial killer as troubles pile up around her isn’t easy. Jake Warin’s loup-garou nature is spiraling downward, enigmatic neighbor Quince Randolph is acting weirder than ever, the Elders are insisting on lessons in elven magic from the world’s most annoying wizard, and former partner Alex
Warin just turned up on DJ’s to-do list. Not to mention big maneuvers are afoot in the halls of preternatural power.
Suddenly, moving to the Beyond as Jean Lafitte’s pirate wench? It could be DJ’s best option.
Excerpt
By midafternoon, I was out of ideas and full of nervous energy that finally sent me out of doors, catching up on yard work I’d neglected all season, raking the small, crunchy leaves from the live oaks into piles a kid would love to play in.
“Need help?”
I ignored the voice and counted to ten, hoping it would go away. Instead, Quince Randolph knelt next to a tall pyramid of leaves I’d erected and took the lid off the big green trash can he’d brought with him. He began scooping up armfuls and piling them in the can. “You should compost this down. It would make a good mulch for flowerbeds. Plus you need more color in your landscaping.”
           “Whatever.” I didn’t know what mulch was, didn’t care enough to ask, and had such a brown thumb that flowers never survived my gardening efforts.
Rand wore a chocolate-brown sweater almost the same color as mine, with jeans in a similar wash. With our comparable shades of long blond hair, we resembled grown-up Bobbsey Twins, except he was prettier. Freddie and Flossie do New Orleans.
“Are you here for any particular reason?”
He squinted up at me against the soft afternoon sunlight. “I just want to get to know you better.”
Uh- huh. “Tell me what you are, and then we’ll know each other better. I’m betting elf or faery.” I was kind of betting elf— it might explain his interest in me although, thankfully, he’d never shown any inclination to plunder my brain.
He grinned. “Go to dinner with me and I might tell you.”
I noted the return of his peridot earrings. Big liar. Super-big cheater. “Where’s Eugenie? You know, your girlfriend?”
A flash of irritation spoiled his perfect features a half second before he answered. “Working. Can we—”
What ever he planned to ask, my answer would be no, but he didn’t get a chance because a clomping noise reached us from the direction of Prytania Street. Rand and I both were stricken speechless at the sight of Jean Lafitte sitting like royalty in the back of a gold and white French Quarter tourist carriage. It was being pulled by a light- gray mule wearing a hat festooned with
fake flowers and driven by a smiling guy who had no idea how many daggers his undead pirate passenger had hidden on him.
The ornate carriage rolled to a stop, and the mule flicked an ear at the passing traffic. Those animals pulled tourists around the French Quarter all day, and it would take more than an impatient Toyota driver to rattle one of them. The carriages were also ridiculously expensive if one commissioned a ride outside the Quarter.
Then again, Jean Lafitte was loaded. The driver probably had a reason to smile.
Jean exited the carriage with extraordinary grace for such a large man. He was tall, powerfully built, black-haired, cobalt-eyed, a shameless flirt, and talked with a raspy French accent that made me swoon even though he was technically dead. In other words, I had a bit of a problem with Jean Lafitte and my own common sense being present at the same time.
Jean said a few words to the carriage driver, then turned to prop his hands on his hips in a broad pirate-like stance, giving Rand a disapproving visual once-over. The mule backed up a
few awkward steps before pulling the carriage into my driveway.
God help me, I hoped Alex didn’t get home in time to see this. I’d never hear the end of it.
“Do you wish me to rid you of this intruder, Jolie?”
But a war is brewing between two clans of Cajun merpeople in Plaquemines Parish, and down in the swamp, DJ learns, there’s more stirring than angry mermen and the threat of a were-gator.
Wizards are dying, and something—or someone—from the Beyond is poisoning the waters of the mighty Mississippi, threatening the humans who live and work along the river. DJ and Alex must figure out what unearthly source is contaminating the water and who—or what—is killing the wizards. Is it a malcontented merman, the naughty nymph, or some other critter altogether? Book Description:
As the junior wizard sentinel for New Orleans, Drusilla Jaco’s job involves a lot more potion-mixing and pixie-retrieval than sniffing out supernatural bad guys like rogue vampires and lethal were-creatures. DJ’s boss and mentor, Gerald St. Simon, is the wizard tasked with protecting the city from anyone or anything that might slip over from the preternatural beyond.
Then Hurricane Katrina hammers New Orleans’ fragile levees, unleashing more than just dangerous flood waters. While winds howled and Lake Pontchartrain surged, the borders between the modern city and the Otherworld crumbled. Now the undead and the restless are roaming the Big Easy, and a serial killer with ties to voodoo is murdering soldiers sent to help the city recover.
To make it worse, Gerald St. Simon has gone missing, the wizards’ Elders have assigned a grenade-toting assassin as DJ’s new partner, and undead pirate Jean Lafitte wants to make her walk his plank. The search for Gerry and the killer turns personal when DJ learns the hard way that loyalty requires sacrifice, allies come from the unlikeliest places, and duty mixed with love creates one bitter roux.
Excerpt from I’m With You:
Jack turned and looked at her, his eyes wet with tears. “I’m sorry you had to go through it alone.”
“If I could have, maybe I would’ve left too. I didn’t have that option. I don’t blame Mark, I really don’t. Who wouldn’t want to escape? It was a horrific experience.”
“I don’t think it was,” Jack stated quietly.
Startled by his words, Chloe said, “Excuse me?”
“I don’t believe you.”
Chloe felt surprised by his perceptiveness. Her breath caught in her throat as she said, “You’re right. Losing him was horrific. But the experience was one of the most precious times of my life. I’ve never felt so full of love for another individual. It consumed me. I loved him with an intensity I’ve never felt before. He’s the greatest blessing I’ve ever received in my life and I don’t regret a single moment. Maybe I never actually heard him speak, but he said more to me in his short life than anyone has ever said to me in my lifetime. He spoke to my heart in ways that are unfathomable. He changed me and left an imprint on my life that I will never forget. He taught me the true meaning of love and what it’s like to love someone else more than yourself.”
Jack shook his head, fighting emotion. “I can see that, I can feel that. This room is a testament to that love. I can feel your overwhelming love for your child just by glancing in here. That’s how strong it is.”
“Not everyone would agree with you. Mark hates this room. It represents loss to him.”
Jack took a step closer, his eyes blazing. “It represents love, completely unselfish love that few people in this world will ever understand or experience. I’m amazed by you, Chloe.”
A word about I’m With You:
Baby loss is a difficult subject. The accompanying grief is complicated and heartbreaking.
In December of 2011, my daughter lost a baby at eight months gestation to Trisomy 18. If you don’t know what that is, I didn’t either, until it happened to us. (You will learn all about this devastating condition during the course of the book.) I’m With You is a romance novel that includes my daughter’s Trisomy 18 story. I knew I wanted to write about the experience one day, but it took me awhile to emotionally prepare myself to actually do it. It has been highly therapeutic. My daughter granted me permission to share her Trisomy 18 story with the hope that it will help others who are dealing with baby loss grief.
There is a song written for and dedicated to the families of Trisomy 18 and 13 babies. It is beautiful and deeply expresses the love parents feel for these special babies.
Fractured Truth
Fractured Light Book #3
Fractured Truth Cover
Llona is determined to end the fight with the Vykens once and for all. All she needs is to find and destroy the Shadow—the ultimate source of dark power. But when she makes a startling discovery about someone she loves, Llona has to fight the toughest battle yet in this exciting conclusion to the Fractured Light series.
Chapter One
“You have four minutes, Llona,” Liam said through a microphone in my ear. His voice, like the ringing of a great bell, pounded my already aching head.
The small plane’s engine shrieked, a high-pitched sound different from the steady hum of the last twenty minutes. Everyone had boarded a while ago. It was a silent crowd, not one likely to converse with each other.
I shifted my weight in the plane’s cramped closet. I could’ve come out as I’d just turned invisible, but I wanted to wait until the speed of the plane increased, covering any sounds the closet door might make when opened.
It was shortly after Cyrus kidnapped my aunt Sophie from Lucent academy that I taught myself to turn invisible. I’d practiced every day, sometimes for hours, until I could do it without the accompanying paralyzing weakness. And although the pain hadn’t gotten any better, I was able to increase the time I could maintain invisibility to several minutes. I’d accomplished all this in just the few short months since Christian’s death.
Just then the plane lurched forward, picking up speed on the runway. I opened the door and peered into the plane’s small kitchen. Empty. Perfect. I quietly slipped out and closed the door behind me.
The front wheels of the plane bounced. The cabin, as I suspected, was full of Vykens sitting in their seats, their backs to me, as if they were regular passengers. Most of them looked like normal humans, which meant they’d fed on Auran blood recently, but a few were in their purest form— facial features deformed and gray with moldy skin peeling back from their faces.
There was only one different from the rest. Jackson. He sat three rows up to the right of the center aisle.
With the Deific’s help, Liam had finally received a tip on Jackson’s whereabouts. It was the closest we’d come to finding out where Cyrus was keeping Sophie. I glanced to my left, to the emergency exit. By the way the plane was vibrating, it was close to taking off.
A Vyken stood and slid into the aisle. I pressed myself against a seat to keep him from bumping into me. I had yet to learn how to let matter pass through me. That may be a trick only my mother knew.
After the Vyken passed by, I went to Jackson. He was looking down at his bloodied knuckles. How did that happen? Jackson used to be a guardian. He (and a bunch of others who had followed him) had joined the Vykens against the Auras months ago. I’d been training harder than ever to stop them all and restore the Auras to their former strength. The strength only a few knew about.
The plane lifted. Still plenty of time to make my move.
I reached down, careful to avoid touching Jackson, and undid his seat belt. He glanced to his lap, brow twisted together. I smacked the back of his head, hard. He turned around and stared at the Vyken behind him.
“What’s your problem?” Jackson asked.
The Vyken ignored him.
Jackson stood and confronted the Vyken again. “Hey, I’m talking to you!”
The Vyken lifted his gaze from the sports magazine in his hand. “I know Cyrus said we can’t kill you, but he didn’t say we couldn’t hurt you. Sit down, guardian.”
Liam’s voice spoke again in my ear. “Hurry up.”
Several Vykens looked around. His voice, this close to so many of them, must have drawn attention.
Time to pay for your crimes, Jackson.
I drew my fist back and punched Jackson in the face. His hand came up to his bloodied nose. “What the . . . ?”
A few Vykens stood up.
I punched him again. He stumbled back toward the exit, arms outstretched as though to steady himself. Blood ran onto his chin.
“What’s going on?” he yelled.
I answered with a swift kick to his chest. It took just a second for him to recover before he started blindly throwing punches. “Someone help me!”
Vykens looked around as if they didn’t know what to do.
I dodged Jackson’s fist and punched him again. He was in position. I took hold of the emergency latch and pulled it as hard as I could. The door flew open, sucking air from the cabin.
Papers and all kinds of debris flew past me. Jackson scrambled backward, his eyes darting around until he was pressed against the wall separating the kitchen from the cabin.
The others stood alert, some in a fight-ready stance. But who were they going to fight? They couldn’t see me. No one could.
Grabbing Jackson, I spun him around until he was facing the open door; his clothes and hair whipped around violently. He stuttered.
His fear excited me, sending a wave of adrenaline through my blood stream.
I was about to reveal myself to him, just so I could see the surprise in his eyes, but Liam’s voice sounded in my ear. “Get out of there—now!”
Jerking into action, I wrapped my arms around Jackson’s chest and jumped from the plane, spiraling into a black abyss.
Fractured Light
Book #1
I’m dying, I thought. This was unexpected and not at all how I envisioned my death. I was supposed to die gardening in a flowerbed as a hundred-year-old woman, not as a seventeen-year-old trapped in a lake beneath inches of ice.
Llona Reese is used to living on the run. After the Vykens killed her parents, she knew they would eventually come for her too. She can’t take any chances. But when she starts to make friends for the first time in her life, she gets careless and lets her guard down. Big mistake.
As an Aura, Llona can manipulate light and harness its energy. But if she wants to survive, Llona will have to defy the Auran Council and learn to use her power as a weapon against the Vyken whose sole desire is to take her light. Now she’s caught in something even bigger than she can understand, with a power she can’t wield, and no one she can trust, except, just maybe, a mysterious stranger.
In this breathtaking and romantic adventure, Rachel McClellan delivers a truly mesmerizing story that will keep you guessing to the very end.
