I’ve read several of Wendy’s books and she’s always given me mysteries not easily solved and thrills to keep me awake.

And so it goes with….

Blue Moon

by Wendy Corsi Staub

Genre: Thrillers, Suspense
Published by: William Morrow, Mass Market
Publication Date: July 26th 2016
Number of Pages: 448
ISBN: 0062349759 (ISBN13: 9780062349750)
Series: Mundy’s Landing #2

My Review

Chaos descends on Mundy’s Landing.

Annabelle starts to wonder if buying one of the notorious Murder houses was such a good idea. Sure, it was cheap, but with a socially challenged son and all of the lookie loos gathering outside, it’s not such a good deal.

One hundred years ago, three young girls, the Sleeping beauties, were murdered. Their bodies dressed in white nightgowns, arms crossed, and left in three different houses. They didn’t live in them. In fact, their identities were never discovered. And their deaths remain unsolved.

Now, the town overflows as people from all over crowd the streets during Mundypalooza, the 100th anniversary of the murders, hoping to solve the crime and win the large reward.

When Annabelle spies a stranger lurking in her back yard, she’s hesitant to report it as she fears the police will brush it off as just another snoop. Perhaps they’re right. But what if they’re not?

Told from several different perspectives, this was a chilling mystery and not easily solved. I had no idea who the killer was, past or present, until the author revealed it.

How Wendy told the story was a good choice, giving us insights from the killer of a hundred years ago through his diary entries, thoughts from the present copycat killer, and the desperate sleuthing of Annabelle.

Sure keeps you guessing as you flip through the pages. I watch a lot of crime shows and Criminal Minds came to mind while I read this. I used it to visualize scenes and that made it especially creepy.

Good stuff for mystery, suspense, and thriller readers. Wendy never fails to get your heart pumping and your body jumping at those strange noises outside.

Synopsis

New York Times bestselling author Wendy Corsi Staub returns to Mundy’s Landing—a small town where bygone bloodshed has become big business.
Hair neatly braided, hands serenely clasped, eyes closed, the young woman appeared to be sound asleep. But the peaceful tableau was a madman’s handiwork. Beneath the covers, her white nightgown was spattered with blood. At daybreak, a horrified family would discover her corpse tucked into their guest room. The cunning killer would strike again . . . and again . . . before vanishing into the mists of time.

A century ago, the Sleeping Beauty Murders terrified picturesque Mundy’s Landing. The victims, like the killer, were never identified. Now, on the hundredth anniversary, the Historical Society’s annual “Mundypalooza” offers a hefty reward for solving the notorious case.

Annabelle Bingham, living in one of the three Murder Houses, can’t escape the feeling that her family is being watched—and not just by news crews and amateur sleuths. She’s right. Having unearthed the startling truth behind the horrific crimes, a copycat killer is about to reenact them—beneath the mansard roof of Annabelle’s dream home . . .

Genre: Thriller

My teaser from page 78 in the paperback.

“Do you have a new bill? A crisp one?”

“Give me a hundred.”

“Are you kidding?” He laughed. “I’m a writer. I’ll be lucky if I have a ten.”

Synopsis

In 1990 some critics believe that America’s most celebrated chef, Joseph Soderini di Avenzano, cut a deal with the Devil to achieve fame and fortune. Whether he is actually Bocuse or Beelzebub, Avenzano is approaching the 25th anniversary of his glittering Palm Beach restaurant, Chateau de la Mer, patterned after the Michelin-starred palaces of Europe.
Journalist David Fox arrives in Palm Beach to interview the chef for a story on the restaurant’s silver jubilee. He quickly becomes involved with Chateau de la Mer’s hostess, unwittingly transforming himself into a romantic rival of Avenzano. The chef invites Fox to winter in Florida and write his authorized biography. David gradually becomes sucked into the restaurant’s vortex: shipments of cocaine coming up from the Caribbean; the Mafia connections and unexplained murder of the chef’s original partner; the chef’s ravenous ex-wives, swirling in the background like a hidden coven. As his lover plots the demise of the chef, Fox tries to sort out hallucination and reality while Avenzano treats him like a feline’s catnip-stuffed toy.

Hello everyone and Happy Sunday!

It’s been a bit more quiet on my blog what with company and summer activities. Hard to believe school starts back up in a few weeks.

My son is now out of school. I remember how fun it was to go shopping for clothes and the lists of school supplies. I don’t miss how expensive it was though. Whew! Every year it seemed like it cost so much more.

Been doing some swimming, taking a quick trip here or there, watching some shows and movies, and reading a lot of books. Speaking of books, I have a bunch to share with you as I’m combining two weeks worth, having missed last weeks Sunday Post.

And I’ve put together a large batch of free downloads. Grab a bunch. There’s many different genres to choose from. I managed to only grab a few! LOL

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link.

Genre: Romance

From page 56 in the paperback.

Since we started writing I too have been awash in memories – and intense feelings – actually I’ve been unable to concentrate on anything else – nervously waiting for your replies.

Read on if you want to know more.

Synopsis

In Save the Last Dance the reader is allowed to eavesdrop on correspondence among people caught in an extraordinary situation- the sudden intrusion of long-ago love into the humdrum lives of older people.

Adam Wolf and Sarah Ross were teenage sweethearts who grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio in the late 50’s and early 60’s. They set a wedding date when they turned fifteen. The day came and went. For most of their lives the two were out of contact.

With their 50th high school reunion approaching, Adam and Sarah reconnect. Email exchanges- after the first tentative “hi”, then a deluge- five, ten- by the end of the week twenty emails a day. Soon Sarah admits, “All my life I’ve been looking for someone who loves me as much as you did”.

In their late sixties now, the couple are far apart geographically, but again inseparable, at least virtually. They feel ageless. Adam dances around the house, no longer “zombie-walking to Waldheim Cemetery”. The two weave from nostalgia and reminiscences to plans and possibilities. They giggle and fantasize. They trust each other with secrets never revealed before.

Too soon, harsh disapproval besieges the couple’s dream world. Adam is married to Lola, a frustrated and hypercritical wife. His employer, Amanda, grows obsessively possessive of him. Divorced from her arrogant husband, Professor Harold Weinstein, Sarah has just entered into a relationship with Gordon, whom she once thought of as “a keeper”. Can Adam and Sarah’s newly-rebuilt romance withstand the pummeling from the people whose lives they’ve derailed?

It’s been a very quiet week for me and I couldn’t think of what to post today. So, I pulled together a short review and am asking for your help on which book to review next.

I’ve read a bunch of books and really need to get some reviews written before I forget the stories. You can choose from the ones I’ll be showing below or I’m open to suggestion!

The Army Of The Night

21199705

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

Review

The great thing about short stories is they aren’t that expensive and you get a sample of the author’s writing to see if they are a good fit for you.

And now and then you find that little gem that just wows you.

This is tagged as a historical horror and that’s what you get. But when Napoleon needs to find a safe passage to retreat through the mountains, the author gives you a supernatural solution. You can bet the solution comes with strings. Some horrific ones.

The writing pulls you right in and the historical setting comes through as the anticipation builds. Once the secret hidden in the mountains is revealed, the action really gets going and the horror comes out.

So glad I tried this story and would love it if the author chose to write more about the characters and beings that haunt these pages.

4 Stars

Synopsis

It’s 1813. Napoleon’s army needs to retreat from Spain and return to France, but the main pass across the jagged peaks of the Pyrenees is within easy reach of the British forces.
In his search for an alternative escape route, Alaine Bellanger discovers more than just an ancient mountain trail. High up, in a cleft between two peaks, he finds something very strange indeed — and someone even stranger.
But who can he tell?
And who would believe him?
(A long short story: 17,000 words.)

Pale Rider: Zombies Versus Dinosaurs #1

This is also free on Amazon. Just click on the cover to grab your copy!

Synopsis

“I am often left to wonder why a zombie, walking around in the sun, smells better than a pooping dinosaur.”

Two worlds collide in this action novelette. Zombies have destroyed civilization. Gasoline fuel is no longer an option, but humanity must find a way to survive. In response to trying to restore our way of life, we engineer franken-monsters. Because of their small brains and massive sizes, these beasts make quick work of farming and clearing land. These large creatures are immune to the zombie virus and perform excellently in loud conditions. They are easy to train. They behave like war horses, prone to help charge in and defend our livelihood.

In honor of the past, and to help build our future, we named these creatures dinosaurs.

Then it happens, and suddenly you find yourself eating a cat on your neighbor’s porch.

No? Never happened to you?

Well, Grace Watkins can’t say the same. Her hunger is growing with each day that passes and her urges are getting harder to control.
No one can explain why her body is changing, except one man.

Hello everyone and Happy Sunday!

I had such a fun week. I didn’t do much. Read some books. Watched some shows and movies. Read some books. And did a little shopping. Got a new cell phone and some clothes. I needed shorts and shirts so bad. I swear, everything I own is old. LOL I usually wear the same favorite things over and over. They finally fall apart from the frequent washings. Hello everyone and Happy Sunday!

It sure is good to be back. My internet was down for quite some time and I missed everyone. I got lucky and the repair person was able to get out to my house much sooner than scheduled, or I’d still be down. What’s weird is the internet came back up on its own just hours before he arrived. I still had him check everything inside and outside of the house and he found nothing wrong. Go figure. LOL

I did manage to have some posts scheduled that went up on time. And I sure did get a lot of reading done with no emails to contend with. LOL Looking forward to visiting with ya’ll today!

Some chit chat.

Hello everyone and Happy Sunday!

It’s good to be back. Went out of town with family last week and had bunches of fun! It went by too fast. LOL Got back to some serious heat waves. Heat index warnings around 110. Yikes! That pool never felt better!

I was thinking about my fur babies the other day. All of them are getting up there in years. My dog, Quigley, is going to be 11. He no longer will jump up into the SUV. I have to practically pick him up and at 90+ pounds, it’s a chore. LOL

My cat, Sheba, is over 23 years old. She no longer likes to jump up into her chair, and prefers to snuggle up on the couch. Still a seat stealer though. I swear, I get up off the sofa and don’t make it three steps before she’s moved into my spot. And she now sits at Quigley’s bowl when I’m preparing his food, and she actually eats some of it before she’ll let him eat it. I think it’s the gravy she’s liking. He will lay nearby and wait for her to be done, even though he’s so much bigger than her. Cute!

And my little parrot, Spot, (my son named him!) is in his twenties. He no longer builds nests in the paper on the bottom of his cage but he still makes these cute high pitched chirps to his girlfriend in the mirror.

Seeing how they’ve changed and mellowed with age has me reflecting on how I’ve changed. I no longer want to rush out and stand in line for a premiere showing of movies, or go to loud concerts. Certainly don’t miss the pub scene. I’m  more content to be at home, enjoy the pool, binge on shows and movies, and, of course, read my books!

I try not to fret so much at how my body looks different. Those wrinkles that stare back at me in the mirror. The crepe skin that’s starting to appear. I’m concentrating more on trying to like myself. And I quit smoking! It’s been two months now. I know that doesn’t sound long, but if you’ve smoked for as many years as I have, it’s a lot.

Enough about me. Let’s get to all of the books from the last two weeks!

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link.
