Book Description:

When children are young their emotions come in peaks and valleys. Sometimes they’re super excited, sometimes they’re sad, and sometimes they lose control and express themselves by throwing a temper tantrum.

These outbursts of emotions are common for parents and kids of all walks of life and can be leveraged by parents who want to teach impulse control, improved behavior, and better mindfulness.

Matt’s Swirly World was written to help parents understand the “why” behind a tantrum as well as what’s going on inside their child’s brain when they’re acting out, feeling scared, or reacting to stressful situations.

An adorable journey featuring a mother and her young song, this book is a great reminder about how all emotions are accepted and that proper behaviors can be learned by kids and taught by moms and dads. In fact, your love is the perfect space where emotions can be processed, expressed, and shared together.

In this book, parents will learn how mindfulness helps kids create better coping skills, but also a variety of other useful tools, including:

  • How love can be used to process emotions and support positive behaviors
  • Why feelings of anger and frustration come and go and are non-threatening
  • How a calm voice and demeanor can soothe a child and minimize meltdowns
  • Providing children relief from stress, anxiety, or big feelings and emotions
  • How children often mimic the behaviors of their mothers and fathers
  • Moving forward and adapting to behavioral changes in the future

This is an opportunity to learn and grow as a parent while teaching your child valuable mindfulness and self-control skills they can use long into adulthood. And it should be the first book you read on tantrums, emotions, and how to inspire positive behaviors each and every day.

When you need help better understanding why your child feels or acts they way they do in times of crisis, or you just want to connect with them on a deeper level, learn more about temper tantrums and emotional control with Matt’s swirly world – Helping Parents Raise Mindful Kids, Understand Tantrums and Relief Stress, Anxiety (Growing Up & Facts of Life Emotions Feelings).

About Author Madeliene Matthews

Aspiring contemporary ballerina, commercial poet, grateful wife and mother. Certified Life Coach, BA Finance, MA Statistics ( don’t judge, I was young ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ), now IT Product Manager. When I was pregnant with my now 3 y/o boy, I was worried of how I can raise my child to cope in a world of bullying, peer pressure, substance abuse, screen time etc. My husband told me that if we want our son to thrive in this world, all we need to do is build his self-confidence & firm limits. So that’s how I started reading parenting books, and read a lot. I read tons of books on the latest research discoveries in interpersonal biology and brain development. I love anything that Daniel J Siegel ever wrote. I am also a fan of “How to talk so kids would listen” by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish.

For “Matt’s swirly world,” I worked with a psychologist who specialized in child development and attachment parenting. That’s because, I am above all, convinced of the immense potential every child has and their absolute innocence. I know from experience that raising kids can often feel quite differently, and challenging. I am convinced that the way to turn that potential into peaceful family lives and well balanced kids – is both intuition and science (and patience). Being emotionally available as a parent, being present for them and for yourself, to keep your own emotional highs & lows in check. Because they are good at triggering us, aren’t they? When I was 8, I had no money to buy my mother gifts; I really wanted to create joy in her heart, so I started dedicating poems to her. That’s what got me started writing.

The Wraith
by Bryan W. Alaspa
Genre: Horror, Suspense, Thriller

***FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE BESTSELLING THE MAN FROM TAURED COMES A COMPANION
NOVEL EXPLORING NEW DIMENSIONS OF HORROR***
The tiny town of Knorr, PA, is one of those places where the walls
between this reality and others is very thin. It draws people from
all over the world and sometimes things slip through from our world
into others while sometimes things slip from other worlds into our
own. Nightmare things.
During World War II an experiment was done using a steam engine to see if
entering another dimension could create instant transportation of
goods and men from one place to another. It unlocked a nightmare from
another dimension and only agents from the agency IDEA were able to
stop reality from unraveling. The train, known as The Wraith,
disappeared along with the scientist who built it.
Now, in present day, a young man hears the distant sound of a train
whistle. The rundown train station at the end of the wooded path is
somehow regenerating. Plus, people in and around Knorr are acting a
little stranger than normal.
The Wraith is coming back, but it’s not coming alone.
Will Knorr survive?
Will the universe?

My Review

The title for this book is perfect and so is the cover. Something stalks Sarah and her family. History is repeating itself as evil stirs in the woods and children are once again the victims of it’s wrath. Could the curse be true? And can they stop the evil before it kills again?

Kathryn never fails to keep me totally immersed in her stories. She always gives me genuine characters. And her descriptions of their lives echoes my own childhood memories. Not the scary stuff though.

The evil that stalks these people is terrifying. How the author describes the malevolent entity that can’t be seen raises the hairs on my neck.  The fortitude and bravery of Kathryn’s character’s gave me hope they could vanquish the evil that has stalked their family for generations. But as things go from bad to the worst possible I had my doubts.

The fact that Sarah is a psychic and can see what may have already happened and what might be going to happen doesn’t always help her. She can’t always determine past from present, and even when she can, it doesn’t mean help will arrive in time. This unpredictability really added to the suspense and had me flying though the book.

Kathryn is on my auto read list. And she’s given me another bone chilling read.

About the Author
Kathryn Meyer Griffith

Since childhood I’ve been an artist and worked as a graphic designer in the corporate world and for newspapers for twenty-three years before I quit to write full time. But I’d already begun writing novels at 21, over forty-five years ago now, and have had twenty-six (six romantic horror, four thrillers, three horror novels, two romantic SF horror, one romantic suspense, one romantic time travel, one historical romance and eight murder mysteries) previous novels, two novellas and twelve short stories published from many traditional publishers since 1984. But since 2012 I’ve gone into self-publishing in a big way; and upon getting some of my older books’ full rights back for the first time in 33 years, have self-published all of them along with my newer novels. My four Dinosaur Lake novels and four Spookie Town Mysteries (Scraps of Paper, All Things Slip Away, Ghosts Beneath Us and Witches Among Us) are my best-sellers. Once branded a horror writer, these days I consider myself a storyteller.

I’ve been married to Russell for thirty-nine years; have a son and two grandchildren and I live in a small quaint town in Illinois. We have a quirky cat, Sasha, and the three of us live happily in an old house in the heart of town. Though I’ve been an artist, and a folk/classic rock singer in my youth with my brother Jim, writing has always been my greatest passion, my butterfly stage, and I’ll probably write stories until the day I die…or until my memory goes.

My Hungry Friend

Genre:  Horror

My Review

I enjoy creepy tales of regret. This guy never should have taken his bad day out on a strange old lady. It brought him many more bad days.

This reminded me a bit of the movie, Drag Me To Hell. If you’ve seen it, you get the idea, and can see why I had a bad feeling about how things would end up for Mike. At first I wasn’t too keen on Mike after what he did to the old woman. But then I learned how sad his life was. Losing a loved one to a mind ravaging disease would make me want to kick the crap out of things too. From then on, I was team Mike.

That one action has such big repercussions as Mike’s world crumbles around him. Is he also losing his mind? Are the monsters real? And what can he do to fix things?

This is my kind of creepy story. Once it gets rolling there’s no stopping it. Strong writing, creepy build up and some intriguing characters. I got what I asked for.

Synopsis

When Mike Roberts kicks over a homeless woman’s cup of change, she whispers a cryptic warning:

“Mind the cracks . . .”

Now the Boston he knows and loves is unraveling around him. But his life is not the only thing at stake. His mother, a once acclaimed writer lost in the late stages of Alzheimer’s, depends on him to have a home. And then there’s her caretaker, Cassie, who might want something more from Mike than the friendship they’ve long shared.

As his city balances on a razor’s edge, Mike will have to hunt down the daughter of the woman he wronged and uncover their terrible family secret . . . or be plunged into a world of crawling horrors and unspeakable hunger.

A world from which no one has ever returned.

Cult
Feisty Lawyers Book 3
by Seelie Kay
Genre: Romantic Suspense

When college students begin disappearing from American campuses, a
notorious cult, God’s Delight, is the primary suspect. God’s
Delight has been hosting shows featuring sex, drugs, and rock and
roll around the country, and young people are flocking to them.
Among the missing is the President’s goddaughter, and he wants answers.
When he asks Agent Cade Matthews, a member of a secret covert
organization, to find her, the mission appears fairly
straightforward. Find the God’s Delight compound, determine whether
a welfare check on American cult members is warranted, and get out.
Simple. Clean. Easy.
Cade sends newly-married Agents Dianna Murphy and Anders Mark to the
University of Wisconsin to follow the trail to God’s Delight, but
when they wind up in Bolivia, things go sideways. Suddenly, what
appeared to be nothing more than a simple in-and-out could cost
Dianna her life. When an Agency extraction is ordered, chaos erupts,
and the question becomes, will anyone survive?

Some chit chat.

I found out what was wrong with my car and it’s going to cost me a bit to fix it. My SUV is an older model but I had the engine rebuilt a few years ago so I decided it was worth the money to go ahead and fix it. I do plan on starting to look around for something else. A backup vehicle. Maybe a car. Guess I’ll have to keep working both jobs for longer than I wanted to to help with that purchase.

On a brighter note, I managed to squeeze in some pool time. Since the rains we had been having lowered the water temp it was wonderful and so relaxing. And I binged a new show. Have you watched Another Life? It was okay and I do hope they continue with it. And I managed to clean most of my house. LOL

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

The Blood Lights
by Elaine Pascale
Genre: Horror

The Blood Lights are the last thing you’ll see…
They victimize all…
Jezzie Mitchell is in anguish; with her brother’s murder still on her
mind, she’s noticed strange behavior among the girls in the
residential treatment center where she works. Is there a connection
between the contagion on Cape Cod and the deadly Bahamas vacation
that changed her life?
Jezzie reaches out to former lover Lou Collins, a scholar who has chased
proof of the lights for decades. Will he be able to solve the mystery
of the lights in time?
Intensely competitive, reporter Bridgette Collins knows the lights are a way to
secure fame in her career. And while it’ll put the final nail into
the coffin of her ex-husband’s career, she vows to know the secrets
of the lights. Even if it means unleashing a world-wide epidemic…

Elaine Pascale has been writing for most of her life. She took a break from
fiction in order to give birth to two children and complete a
doctoral dissertation. She lives on Cape Cod, MA, with her husband,

university in Boston: from English Composition and Communications to
a Vampire Seminar. Her writing has been published in Allegory

Lizzie Borden
by Elizabeth Engstrom
Genre: Historical Mystery, Thriller
.
lizzie review
.

I’ve always been fascinated about Lizzie Borden. People are divided on whether she did the crimes or not. I’m no expert so I cant decide either. It took place so long ago we’ll never know. That’s why I grab books about her whenever I come across them. I immediately snatched this up without even reading the synopsis. If I had, I might have realized this was more of a fictional character study on the Borden family than much to do with the crime itself and the trial.

It got off to a slow start and I pushed on to see where the author was taking the story. What I got was a peek through the keyhole to what the Borden’s family dynamics might have been like. Dark and disturbing indeed.

The story may have been different from what I was expecting, but I did enjoy reading about Lizzie and her family from a different angle.

Did she do it?
A hundred years ago, it was the Trial of the Century. A young woman
stood accused of brutally murdering her father and stepmother in a
crime so heinous that it became a benchmark in human tragedy.
A hundred years later, the Lizzie Borden case still resounds in the
imagination. There are those who staunchly defend Lizzie’s
innocence while others vehemently declare that she did it, and that
the murder was justified.
In Elizabeth Engstrom’s brilliant novel, the dark psychology of the
Borden household is laid bare. Lizzie, her sister Emma and their
parents Andrew and Abby Borden, are sharply illuminated—as are the
paranoia and concealed hatred that secretly ruled the family.
Domestic violence and dysfunctional families are not inventions of
modern times.
Every door in the Borden house is metaphorically locked, and each room holds
the terrible secrets of its occupant…Engstrom skillfully and subtly
builds a psychological plot, moving the reader inexorably toward the
anticipated savage denouement.” —Publishers Weekly

Elizabeth (Liz) Engstrom grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois (a Chicago suburb
where she lived with her father) and Kaysville, Utah (north of Salt
Lake City, where she lived with her mother). After graduating from
high school in Illinois, she ventured west in a serious search for
acceptable weather, eventually settling in Honolulu. She attended
college and worked as an advertising copywriter.
After eight years on Oahu, she moved to Maui, found a business partner and
opened an advertising agency. One husband, two children and five
years later, she sold the agency to her partner and had enough seed
money to try her hand at full time fiction writing, her lifelong
dream. With the help of her mentor, science fiction great Theodore
Sturgeon, When Darkness Loves Us was published.
Engstrom moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1986, where she lives with her husband Al
Cratty, the legendary muskie fisherman, and their Duck Tolling
Retriever, Jook. Liz holds a BA in English Literature and Creative
Writing and a Master of Arts in Applied Theology, both from
Marylhurst University. A recluse at heart, she still emerges into
public occasionally to speak at a writers conference, or to teach a
class on various aspects of writing the novel, essay, article or
short story. An avid knitter and gardener, she is on faculty at the
University of Phoenix and is always working on the next book.

You’ve Been Volunteered: A Class Mom Novel
Humorous Fiction
2nd in Series
Henry Holt and Co. (July 23, 2019)
Hardcover: 288 pages
ISBN-10: 1250301858
ISBN-13: 978-1250301857

In the eagerly anticipated follow-up to Laurie Gelman’s “irreverent and hilarious” (The New York Post) hit Class Mom, brash, lovable Jen Dixon is back with a new class and her work cut out for her

If you’ve ever been a room parent or school volunteer, Jen Dixon is your hero. She says what every class mom is really thinking, whether in her notoriously frank emails or standup-worthy interactions with the micromanaging PTA President and the gamut of difficult parents. Luckily, she has the charm and wit to get away with it—most of the time. Jen is sassier than ever but dealing with a whole new set of challenges, in the world of parental politics and at home.

She’s been roped into room-parenting yet again, for her son Max’s third grade class, but as her husband buries himself in work, her older daughters navigate adulthood, and Jen’s own aging parents start to need some parenting themselves, Jen gets pulled in more directions than any one mom, or superhero, can handle.

Refreshingly down-to-earth and brimming with warmth, Dixon’s next chapter will keep you turning the pages to find out what’s really going on under the veneer of polite parent interactions, and have you laughing along with her the whole way.
