Cedric the Demonic Knight
The Cedric Series Book 1
by Valerie Willis
Genre: Epic Fantasy

Known for hunting the supernatural, no mortal man realizes Lord Cedric is
one of Sorceress Morrighan’s abominations. After competing in a
tournament, he is wed to a Lady of the Court, Angeline. Cedric’s
senses begin to overwhelm him and he struggles to decipher his
feelings; Are they a creation of his incubine bloodline or truly
heartfelt emotions for the girl who has lost it all to him? He finds
himself forced to choose between falling in love or continuing his
suicidal quest to kill his creator. Epic battles against all manners
of beasts and demons fill this story with memorable antagonists such
as Morrighan and her two sisters; Romasanta the Father of Werewolves;
Succubus Queen Lillith and many more. Find yourself engulfed in lores
and history long forgotten from the 12th Century and beyond.

Romasanta: Father of Werewolves
The Cedric Series Book 2

Romasanta finds himself a cursed man and struggles with his internal demon,
literally. All his troubles start with a stone and after that he will
be losing everything he’s ever loved. Faced with clinging on to what
little humanity he has, he will lose it many times before reaching
the end of his journey. His life’s tale will take you through time to
see how every lore, every moment in history tied in with wolves all
come back to him. They call him the Ancient One, others simply refer
to him as the Father of Werewolves, but we know him by his name,
Romasanta. Many battles will be fought before he gets closer to his
goals, but will he be ready to finish what was asked of him at the
very beginning of his horrible fate. Will he be able to return the
Eye of Gaea and free the love of his life from the laurel tree in the
Black Forest?

The Oracle
The Cedric Series Book 3

Released Sept 1st

With Angeline back in Cedric’s arms and the Eye of Gaea in Romasanta’s
grip, the next step in their journey begins. All eyes are set on Mt.
Parnassus where the Oracle is protected by Delphyne, the mother of
all dragons and beasts. Assembling a group of willing patrons,
Romasanta leads them to Delphi, Greece where they will cross into a
realm void of technology. Only brute strength and magic reign in a
place where packs of Mimick dogs, Wyverns and Jaculus still run wild.
Meanwhile, back home Lillith takes on a mysterious curse cast on Tony
who will have to make a life changing choice. The question weighing
on all their minds is if two werewolves, the Incubus King, and a
demonized sorceress will live to fight their way into Gaea’s Gate
to enter the Otherworld?

Valerie Willis is a sixth generation Floridian who loves crafting novels with
elements inspired by Mythology, Superstitions, Legends, Folklore,
Fairy Tales and even history. She braved the Independent Publish
route at the end of 2012 and has devoted herself for being a pillar
of “Self-Publishing How-to” from formatting of both print and
digital versions to book cover designs.

Her fantasy romance novels within The Cedric Series is a wonderful blend
of genres that appeal to a wide-range of readers whether they like
paranormal, fantasy, romance or action adventure. The characters are
flawed in mental and emotional ways while being amazing powerful
creatures, demons, witches and Gods. Many of the monsters presented
in battle derive from Medieval Bestiaries and adds a fun flavor of
new yet deeply rooted assortment of creatures such as Coin Iotair,
Shag Foal, Cynocephali, and many more.

For Young Adult readers looking for a Dark Fantasy and coming-of-age
lessons, Tattooed Angels Trilogy is an ode to her teenage life for
those teenagers getting ready to step out in the world on their own.
Hotan is a failed reincarnation and is becoming immortal against his
will. Life is complicated and often we withdraw within ourselves,
shut others out, when life becomes hard. As the story unfolds we
learn the importance of opening up and asking for support in all its
forms to the people in our lives even beyond friends and family. Each
immortal controls amazing powers of Nature, like fire, or elements of
Humanity, such as fear.

Do you spend hours in front of the TV, maybe days? Did you ever want to chat with other Binge Watchers or ask people for suggestions or maybe just review the season you watched. Books, Movies, Reviews, Oh My! and Because Reading had the perfect idea, why not get all of us binge watchers together? BUT, we want this to be unique so there is no template, no set way to do it. You can do the post however you want. Here are a few examples of what you can post about.

  • Did you just Binge Watch a series and now have book recommendations?
  • Make a poll to have others pick what you should watch.
  • Write a review of the season you watched or an entire series. You can even do one episode at a time.
  • Make a post that tells people what you plan to watch, what you already watched and what you are currently watching.

I’m joining in and my first binge post is about the ‘reigning’ show on HBO…..

GAME

OF

THRONES

I started binging this show because I couldn’t take it anymore. I knew I was missing the show of all shows. So many people were watching it. I felt like the only one who wasn’t.

From the opening scene where the gate is raised at the north wall and the men of the Night’s Watch ride out I was hooked. The majesty of the scene was so dramatic. Watching this on my big screen TV, I felt like I was standing outside the gates waiting for the riders to approach me.

In two weeks I binged this show and am now on Season Seven, Episode 6. With only two more episodes and a year to wait until the last season, yes the eighth season is the end of the show, I’m left dreading the end and dying to know what happens.

The character’s were larger than life. The scenes literally took my breath away. And I don’t think, no – I know, I’ve never felt so strongly towards a story. I wept, laughed, felt the character’s triumphs, their fears. I covered my eyes at some traumatic scenes and quickly uncovered them as I didn’t want to miss a thing.

And I felt a loathing for some of the diabolical characters like I’ve never felt before.  What tore me up was hating them but kind of understanding what drove them to do the things they did. In a certain scene in the second episode of season seven, I was yelling out loud for a character to die and then felt relief when he managed to survive. How gloriously twisted is that!

Before I go I have to mention them……the dragons. Oh lordy, are they magnificent. They remind of dinosaurs, lizards, and serpents all rolled into one stunning beast. With my surround sound cranked way up, I felt the thunder of their landings, heard the wind passing under their wings, and their mighty roars would have shook the rafters if I had any!

LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!

Bear with me as this is my first time doing an unboxing. I tried doing a video but it was a disaster. LOL So I’m sharing pictures instead.

First I want to thank JKS Communications – A Literary Publicity Firm  and Author D.E. Night for offering me this exciting package for her debut novel, The Crowns Of Croswald. A fantasy adventure for middle grade readers releasing July 21st.

I was giddy to see what the box had inside and to learn more about the book. Most of you know I love reading books meant for younger reads and will be sharing my review for this book on my Kid’s Korner feature soon.

Shall we open the box?

20170826_071331

The first thing I see…it appears to be a local newspaper, Scriven This. There are some fascinating and quirky articles. I kept expecting one of the images to move. LOL

20170826_071431

Next is a letter addressed to the reader. Aren’t the illustrations lovely!

20170826_072154

And the official press release telling me about the book and an interview with the author. A quote from the first page – “Releasing on July 21, 2017, The Crowns Of Croswald is the first book in a series for middle grade readers brimming with whimsy, adventure, and steampunk undertones. Croswald’s gutsy heroine is part Cinderella, part Harry Potter, part Percy Jackson, and all fun.

20170826_071649

Ooh, the Glanagerie Bottle. It comes with a lovely card telling how this bottle is filled with charmed spring water and how to use it to make spells.

20170826_071842

And it lights up! So pretty.

20170826_071952  20170826_072102

And now for The Crowns Of Croswald! Such a lovely cover isn’t it. It almost glows on its own.

Writing has always been a hobby and cathartic experience for me. Turning my
passion into a fulfilling career as an Author has been one of my greatest dreams.
I write because creating something that didn’t exist before is as
close to magic as I’ll ever get. All you need is imagination.
I’ve always been passionate about storytelling and impressed by the
influence it has on people and the decisions they make in life. I
love engaging with the projects I work on, diving headfirst into the
research, investigation, and production of stories I feel are worth
writing about. I am a curious and proactive Author, interested in
preserving the foundations set by classical literature by adapting
them to modern themes and trends.

Welcome to my Monday Minis Reviews where I share shorter reviews of books I’ve read.
For today I have another southern gem from Bette Lee Crosby.

The Loft

The Memory House Collection #2

by Bette Lee Crosby

25970678

Genre: Fantasy / Contemporary / Romance

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

My Review

I adored the fist book, Memory House, and had high hopes for this second book. And my hopes were met. I enjoyed being back with these characters and learning more about the memories in the loft.

This picks up right where the first book left off. But big changes are happening. Ophelia is moving on, making new friends and finally letting the memories go. Annie is the new keeper of those memories, but before she gets a chance to settle in, Oliver is injured in a car crash and his life hangs in the balance. Annie must find his most precious memories in order to save him.

It’s not often that you have a story pick up right where the last book left off. It sure was nice to find that happening in this one. I knew change was coming. Ophelia always planned for Annie to take her place as keeper of memories, and I wondered how that would work.

Annie and Oliver just got married and it didn’t seem feasible that all three would live at Memory House. How could the author make this work. She did so in shocking yet gentle ways. Guiding you through some traumatic events, giving you hope that things would work out for everyone.

With some other characters stepping in and out of the story, I knew this part of the journey might be coming to an end but saw fun possibilities for more adventures. One character in particular, I’d like to see more of. She has a sad past and I wonder if the author will give us her story now.

Another gem from Bette Lee Crosby and I’m sure it won’t be the last. Her stellar writing and engaging characters keeps me coming back for more.

Welcome to My Monday Minis where I share short reviews about books I’ve read.

Passing Through Perfect

The Wyattsville Series #3

by Bette Lee Crosby

23377843

Genre: Historical / Contemporary / Romance

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

My Review

I adored the first two books in this series, Spare Change and Jubilee’s Journey. Once again Bette has us step back to earlier times,  where we meet Delia and Ben as they fall in love and fight to stay together despite what other’s may want.

Bette can write with a southern twang. Her descriptions of settings, how people comport themselves and what the consequences are for defying family seep into you.

This is a story of hope and despair, of fighting against prejudice and finding goodness in the least likely of places. Passing Through Perfect is an excellent choice for the title of this book.

From the first sentence I was hooked and never looked back, turning each page and relishing the saga of two young lovers defying their families to be together and the travesty that befalls their decision.

4 Stars

~~~~~
Synopsis
Benjamin Church came to the grange hall expecting to meet someone else, but then the girl in a red dress looked across the dance floor and smiled…
Passing through Perfect is a heart-wrenching, Southern family saga that starts on the night Benjamin fell madly and completely in love with Delia. Once he tasted the sweetness of her kiss, he envisioned them spending the rest of their life together.
He didn’t stop to consider her daddy was a learned Pastor and her mama a woman with a college degree; he only knew she set his heart to racing. When he touched his mouth to hers, he forgot the hardships of being a sharecropper, forgot what it was like to work from dawn ‘til dark and forgot that nothing in Grinder’s Corner ever really changed.
Benjamin’s only thoughts were about lying together every night, sitting side by side on the front porch, and raising a family. Yes, he knew there’d be heartaches. Every couple had their share of heartaches, it was to be expected; but he never imagined such a tragedy would befall their family.
My Review
I was spellbound by this moving story about Ophelia and the young guest, Annie, who finds her way to her doorstep and her heart. These two women were a delight to meet and each one holds a special place in my heart.
Ophelia is nearing 90 and time is running out for her. Annie is a young woman with no direction, drifting through life and looking for her place to call home. Was it fate that brought them together? I like to think so.
I loved this story. The excitement to see what would happen, to see if what I wanted to happen would and where these two women wound up kept me flipping the pages. Every time something I wanted to happen did, I looked up, wanting to share what I just read. No one was there.  Probably a good thing as I would have spoiled the book for them.
I can share this with you though. Bette has a way of sprinkling connections to her other books into this story. I recognized characters and events, and even some of the objects that held memories. It endeared this book to me even more.
I finished with a sigh of delight and a twinkle in my eye. Magical.
I have lots to share today!  Check out The Chocolatier’s Wife and The Chocolatier’s Ghost.
An excerpt from The Chocolatier’s Wife.
An interview with Author Cindy Lynn Speer.
And a giveaway. Don’t forget to enter!
~~~~~

Author Cindy Lynn Speer has graciously answered some questions. Enjoy the interview.

Do you have any tattoos?  Where? When did you get it/them? Where are they on your body?

No, but I think of it sometimes, but I am too – I don’t think indecisive is the word, but I would like to be able to change, because I have changed.  When I was a teen, I wanted a rose in a melting block of ice.  Now I think I would like a little fox, somewhere with a sword.

I love the idea of the power of ink on skin.  I’ve used that in Blue Moon, and I suspect I will use it again.

Is your life anything like it was two years ago?

Yes, mostly.  I have the same job, the same hobbies.  Some new people in my life.  I think I might be more tired than I used to be, lol.

How long have you been writing?

My first book was published in 2005, I think.  I have been writing much longer than that, but don’t want to give away my age!  I started writing in the back of class, in my teens, stupid stories to make my friends happy.  I’ve never really stopped.

What advice would you give a new writer just starting out?

Talent is important.  Persistence is essential.  Luck is the thing that makes it all work out.  So, never give up.  Keep working, keep writing, but know that it only comes easy to the very lucky.  Always look for ways to get better, and never stop working on the various things a writer has to do outside of writing.  And forgive yourself when you fail, because you will – life will happen and you will realize you haven’t written on a story or done a blog or social media in weeks.  But then you go, OK.  Let’s start again.  And you keep moving forward.

Tell us something about your newest release that is NOT in the blurb.

The Chocolatier’s Wife is in a tenth anniversary, illustrated hardcover edition.  We also edited it again – and yes, we caught minor little things and made tiny improvements that, while, if you have already read the book won’t rock your world, it does make me feel even happier with the book as a whole.  Also, one of my fellow swordsmen drew the maps and he is amazing.

Murder. Funny, how the idea of one’s future husband killing someone made headaches go away. It was not that she could not conceive that he was a killer; anyone who read the shipping information at the back of the newspaper, listing, among other things, the manifests of pirate ships that had been taken and destroyed, would know William was quite capable of killing. But, she reasoned, that was hot blooded killing, it was not murder. Poisoning someone with chocolate required coldness and cunning.

She moved at last, only enough to take her hair down. She stared at the pins in her hands. No. She could not believe that William was capable of cunning. He was smart, aye. But practical smart. Not without imagination, of course, you could not accuse a man who wanted to make chocolates of a lack of imagination, but he was also not the sort of man to go around blithely killing people with the very product he hoped to sell. She could not believe it.

After a while, the surprise wearing off, she tried to imagine the two paths her life might take. She thought of being at the university. She had trained there, and so she had friends as well as colleagues among the staff. Eventually she would have the seniority to teach only the advanced students, perhaps even ascend to the Circle, as her mother hoped. A life of teaching and learning how to use herbs, divining the secret meanings hidden in the wind, the rain, and the veins of leaves was hers. She was no master wizard, but she was very, very good, and she knew her life was mapped out for her here, a scholarly life of respect and decent wages and wanting for nothing. It was, clearly, a good life, which was why her family wanted it for her.

Then there was William. She tried to imagine him, blurry in her mind, by her side. A life of children, shop-keeping. It did not seem as glamorous or interesting, though she trusted she would be able to continue her studies and believed that William would provide for her, but her fame would be as his wife alone. No one would remember her save their children.  Still, it was not without its appeal, the idea of having someone who was all yours, someone to curl up against in the winter. It was harder to imagine the future, here, for she knew so little in comparison. The unknown could hold pain as well as joy.

She sighed, and went to bed, in a restless attempt at sleep for what remained of the night.

When she came down the next day she had two cases in her hands, and she was wearing her best traveling clothes. Her family looked up at her from their breakfast, as she put the heavier of the two down, her hands switching the other bag back and forth, nervous and moist on the hard, wooden handle. “You see,” she said by way of good-morning-and-here’s-my-explanation, “the problem is that I rather like him.”

The Blue Unicorn’s Journey To Osm

GENRE: Teen Fantasy Book

My Review

Having such a love for the wonder of unicorns it was an easy choice to read this book. Magical unicorns with metal horns. All shapes and sizes. And one unicorn, Blue, who has no magic, but is supposed to be the savior for the tribe. Sounds like a grand adventure to me.

And it was. Filled with lots of beautiful illustrations portraying many of the fantastical beings that roam these lands, it kept me enthralled. However, it had some dark moments that caught me by surprise. Going in thinking this was for younger readers, some scenes of death and danger now have me thinking this would better fit older teens and young adults.

This well written fantasy has plenty of intriguing characters and plenty of action, with some doses of peril that will keep you reading and crossing your fingers for a happy ending. I sure enjoyed it and would love to read more about Blue, his friends, and this magical world.

BLURB

The book is about a little blue unicorn who was born into a magical metal-horned tribe of unicorns.  He is expected to save the tribe from the evil sorcerer, Magh but how will he be able to do that with no metal and no magic?  Read the book to find out how a plain blue unicorn comes of age with the help of a brave stag and a loyal firebird.  The book is meant for teen readers and anyone else who love unicorn stories with lots of pictures.

Excerpt

“Why, would you take off alone, Ghel?” Alumna asked. “You know how dangerous it is out there.  You were almost a manticore’s dinner.”

It was obvious Alumna was angry.  She tried to control her voice but it came out in sharp, short tones.

 “Or worse,” Lauda exclaimed, “you might have been captured by Magh’s minions and had your hooves and horn taken.”  The hide on her back rippled fearfully.

Ghel shuddered, too.  She had thought she was doomed when she first saw the manticore.  She would have been if Nix had not arrived in the nick of time to save her.

All the other unicorns put on brave faces but the thought scared them, also.

The seriousness of their situation was fully revealed when Alumna said, “The entire tribe is going to have to make a journey all the way across MarBryn to Muzika Woods.”

She showed them the map which she had wanted to show the entire tribe at the same time.  Unfortunately, Blue never saw it.  Even with the map, there was no way to know which direction he had taken.

“All he knows is that he is supposed to get to Muzika Woods,” Alumna said sadly.  “The Numen told me Blue’s destiny is to ensure the safety of our tribe. He said it is time for Blue to join with the Moon-Star.”

No one tried to hide the shock they felt.  They all spoke at once: “Join with the Moon-Star?”

“Corn feathers! Is he gonna sprout wings to do this trick?” Lauda exploded.    “The Moon-Star’s in the sky and Blue sure as heck can’t fly.”

They all thought it sounded like nonsense. Unicorns cannot fly.
