Stifled Release
Today we’re celebrating the release of STIFLED, book two in the SUMMONED series by USA Today Bestselling author, Rainy Kaye. A dark twist on genie folklore, SUMMONED follows a reluctant criminal as he unravels the mystery of the paranormal bond controlling him. In STIFLED, Dimitri trails an elusive jinn and finds himself in the middle of a community keeping dark secrets. The SUMMONED series is represented by Rossano Trentin of TZLA.

Scroll down to pick up your copy of STIFLED, get SUMMONED for free for a limited time, and enter to win a $10 Amazon gift card.

Stifled Final 2 PSDDimitri would like nothing more than to live a low-key life in Naples, Italy. His girlfriend, Syd, has other plans.

After three months of researching, she is positive she has found a jinn on a killing spree in San Diego, California. Since Syd gave Dimitri the one thing he thought was out of reach, he feels obligated to use his ill-gained talents for her cause.

A few hours back in the US proves that Dimitri and Syd didn’t quite make the clean escape they had thought. As they trail the elusive jinn, someone else trails them. What should have been a simple trip to confirm once and for all if the jinn are living among humans, instead reveals a community keeping dark secrets.

Unfortunately for Dim, the only way out is in.

summoned_cover_final_biggerTwenty-three year old Dimitri has to do what he is told—literally.

Controlled by a paranormal bond, he is forced to use his wits to fulfill unlimited deadly wishes made by multimillionaire Karl Walker.

Dimitri has no idea how his family line became trapped in the genie bond. He just knows resisting has never ended well.

When he meets Syd—assertive, sexy, intelligent Syd—he becomes determined to make her his own. Except Karl has ensured Dimitri can’t tell anyone about the bond, and Syd isn’t the type to tolerate secrets.

Then Karl starts sending him away on back-to-back wishes. Unable to balance love and lies, Dimitri sets out to uncover Karl’s ultimate plan and put it to an end. But doing so forces him to confront the one wish he never saw coming—the wish that will destroy him.

Some chit chat.

Happy Spring ya’ll. It’s officially here and boy am I glad!

I came home from work the other day and spotted this.

spring buds 007

I was saying the other day that spring is not officially here until I see green buds on my pecan trees. I was so excited when I looked up into the tree and spotted these beauties. Sorry I couldn’t get a better picture. Took it from my phone. Trust me, they are a pretty green.

In about a week the trees will be fully green again.  tree budding leaves photo: Tree sheading it\'s leaves Treesheadingitsleaves.gifMy spring fever is at a pitch and I’ve been cleaning gardens and mulching like crazy. It’s coming along nicely and I’ll take pictures when I’m done. Nothing fancy but I enjoy my little piece of heaven.

Interview with Aisling Andersson

Bio: Aisling Andersson is one of the youngest Primani in existence today. Born in Norway in the late 1700s, she was made by the archangel Gabriel in a rare moment of compassion. Now retired from combat service, she lives in Plattsburgh, New York, with her seven-year-old son, Sean Michael, and Dalmatians Rambo and Winchester. Eternally drawn to the bad boys, she’s made a few colossal mistakes, but has finally found peace with her past.

AislingAndersson

Describe yourself. What is your worst and best quality?

“Hm. I try to stay true to myself even if that truth is dark. I might be immortal but that doesn’t mean a thousand lifetimes of sunshine and roses. Until just recently, the only light in my life was my son Sean Michael. I like to think I’m an excellent mother. He’s my number one priority. I’m sorry. I’m getting sidetracked. You asked about my qualities. I guess my ability to be honest about who and what I am is my best quality. If I had to narrow down bad qualities to just one, it would be my lack of trust of pretty much any other creature–human, angel, or demon. I’m working on this with Sean, but my walls are still pretty thick.”

What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?

“I just want to live a quiet life with my family. Everyone thinks I’m some kind of slutty skank after what happened in Rome. You wouldn’t believe the hate mail I’m getting! But here’s the thing — That, um, episode with Cain wasn’t normal for me. I’m not usually like that, but I was in a bad place, and he was there to offer some escape. It’s hard to think about the past when you’re living in the moment. Sure, it turned out he was a demon, but the sex was fabulous. I won’t deny it. I know there must be women who’ve done the same thing — wicked sex with a totally inappropriate lover. It doesn’t make me a horrible person. I hope readers can relate and cut me some slack. I’d really like the hate mail to stop.”

What are you most afraid of?

“Other than being buried alive? I dread the thought of losing my son to his destiny. The Four Horsemen will take him, and I may never see him again. Raphael promises that won’t happen, but how does he really know for sure? We don’t know what Armageddon will be like. I can’t stand the thought of losing Sean Michael.”

What about Sean? How does he feel about that?

“Sean isn’t thrilled with the idea of losing Sean Michael either, but he’s the warrior in the family, isn’t he? He’s working his ass off to prepare our boy for what’s coming. I’ve never seen a stronger fighter or a more determined man. He’ll do everything in his power to keep our baby safe.”

Okay, so on a lighter note. How are things with Sean? Have you made any future plans yet?

“Things are really, really good. I can’t believe how this has turned out. I was so bitchy to him, but he’s forgiven me. He just wants us to move forward and be a family for once. After all this time, it’s wonderful to have peace.”

One last question for you. Did you two really destroy a building during sex? I can’t believe that’s possible!

“Oh, my God! I can’t believe you’d go there! Seriously?”

Come on. Give my readers a juicy Sean story. They love him. Is it true or not?

“Okay. Fine. It’s true. We did break the turret of the hotel. Our energies were off the hook that night, and we didn’t know we’d create something like a sound wave! It was the most intense sex I’ve ever had. I won’t lie. Sean’s amazing. And speaking of Sean… I have to run. I’m late for a date!”

ad infinitum: endlessly, forever, without limit

Finally freed from a century in purgatory, former-wild child Aisling just wants to raise her son and live as a normal human again. Her taste of freedom is cut short the moment her past comes to claim her. There’s one reason she was exiled, and his name is Cain. With him, there was only darkness, and the angels help her, she liked it that way. Now he’s back, and his commands are simple. Stay away from Sean or else. But when he threatens to take her son, she turns to the one man who can save them both. Sean.

Sean is sick and tired of his baby mama’s hateful attitude. Her mood swings give him whiplash, and he’s seriously thinking of strangling her. But when a brutal old enemy shows up to destroy everyone Sean loves, he discovers Aisling is hiding more than her feelings for him.

Some chit chat.

I must have sat for over half an hour trying to think of something to talk about. Nothing really new happened personal wise. Then I started thinking about summer. It looks like spring is finally arriving. I even had to run the AC this week. It was hot and humid. Looks like we’ll be skipping open window weather and jumping right into hot and sticky! This led to thinking about swimming.

When I first moved to the Gulf Coast almost 30 years ago, I didn’t think twice about swimming in the ocean. Well, Jaws was always on my mind. LOL I used to turn my back to the waves and pray there wasn’t some huge shark in there cruising for a meal.

It turns out the most dangerous thing I encountered was jellyfish. It seemed like every time I got in the water, I got stung. Some had tentacles so long you never saw it’s body when you felt that sting.

jellyfish photo: jellyfish jelly_fish.gif

After going on many deep sea fishing trips and seeing some of the sharks out there, my fear of the ocean grew and I finally gave up swimming in it all together. I don’t miss it one bit. That’s because I have a pool and now I can walk out my back door and dive in with no worries.

Except for the time I fell asleep while floating in the pool. I woke and saw the shadow of a shark on the bottom and freaked out until I realized where I was and that the shadow came from a child’s float. LOL

So, what about you? Do you swim in the ocean? Are you afraid when you do? Which do you prefer, pool or the sea?

Oh, and watch out! There’s a jelly or two floating around in this post!

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

Did anybody wake up this morning feeling like they had lost some time?

Guess what day it is!

spring forward photo: spring forward daylight-savings-1.gif

That’s right. Daylight Savings Time!

Do you set your clocks ahead before you go to bed or do you wait and do it when you get up? And does it affect you much?

I used to dread it when my son was younger and in school. He adapted pretty quickly though. Me now, that’s another matter. I’m always awake before dawn, and it takes my mind and body a while to adjust. I wish we could spring forward and NOT fall back!

I woke up this morning and there was this strange noise coming from outside. When I got out of bed to go investigate, I discovered my back yard and the trees were filled with birds. There were so many and they were so loud.

Most of them were big fat Robins and they looked so pretty. I couldn’t resist going outside to get a closer look and you won’t believe what happened!.

Excerpt:

Volleyball had been replaced by badminton while I was in the hospital. Mr. Mooney let me get away with sitting out class the first two days, but by the third he decided to diagnose me as fit for participation.

“Sky, ready to jump back in?”

I paused on my way to the bleachers. “I’m not dressed.”

Besides, everyone was already paired up.

“Fane!” Mr. Mooney called. “Get out here. You can be Aurora’s partner.”

I tried not to flinch or show signs of distress. My last memory of Fane involved his tongue tracing his upper lip in lewd gesture.

Fane stood up and gave Mr. Mooney a glare so dark it sent a shiver down my spine. It was the first real sensation I’d experienced since the accident. When his eyes moved to me I momentarily forgot to breathe.

Fane held my gaze a moment longer then slipped out of his leather jacket. I watched, transfixed. This was history in the making. Fane Donado taking off his coat.

All of his imperfections breezed out the door as soon as I got my first look at the six-pack straining against his cotton tee. My eyes must have been playing tricks on me. For a guy with such a slender build, Fane was surprisingly muscled.

Fane took deliberate steps down the aisle of the bench, straight to the edge. He jumped from the bleachers, causing them to rock in his wake.

I swore I felt a thud inside the pit of my stomach when he landed.

Mr. Mooney nodded at Fane. “You two are playing Clayton and Tyler.”

Fane walked past me and took two rackets off the floor. He handed me one. I took it from his outstretched hand then followed several steps behind.

Part of me was relieved he didn’t say anything. All I could think about was the obscene gesture he’d made right before my world turned up-side-down. I hardly noticed his hair. I was too distracted by his lips. And now his abs. Luckily, I wouldn’t have to look at either while we played side by side.

At the far court, Clayton and Tyler bounced birdies up and down on the strings of their rackets.

Clayton nudged Tyler as we approached. “Oh great. Goth boy and zombie girl. This should be fun.”

I took my place beside Fane. He held his racket loose and lazy. I barely held mine at all. Clayton pelted the birdie at me. I tried to shield my face and ended up dropping my racket.

“Oh, come on!” Clayton shouted.

I picked up the birdie and threw it over the net.

Clayton served the birdie to Fane, who smacked it over the net with the flick of a wrist. Tyler launched the birdie at me. It hit me on the shoulder, but I swung anyway as it bounced to the floor.

“Hello? Earth to Aurora,” Tyler called across the net.

“I think she’s still in a coma,” Clayton said.

“That’s game,” Tyler said. “Your serve.”

I picked up the birdie and handed it to Fane. It’s a good thing it wasn’t a real bird. Fane crushed it in his hand. Only for a moment. Only I saw. He relaxed and looked across the net. I felt that odd shiver return.

Fane smacked the birdie as though it were a fly. He walloped it right between Tyler and Clayton so fast neither boy had time to react. When they did manage a return hit, Fane gracefully flicked away any stray birds that came at me. I watched in fascination, fully engaged for the first time since the accident.

The boys tried to hit the birdie back. Fane had them racing across every corner of their court. By the end of the period they were out of breath. They took off without a backwards glance when Mr. Mooney blew his whistle signaling the end of gym.

As I walked past Fane I felt a twitch. Not my own. I felt the twitch of his hand wanting to stop me.

“Hey, you. Are you okay?”

If I had any emotion left I’d laugh. He didn’t even know my name—that or it wasn’t worth saying.

He studied me carefully. “I’ve seen that look before.”

Now I was curious.

Valerie jumped down from the bleachers. “Fane!”

He didn’t pay attention to her. I held my breath waiting for him to tell me what he saw.

Valerie sashayed her way over to Fane, red hair blazing down her shoulders. She held out his jacket. “I’m ready to blow this joint. Let’s get a bite.”

Her last words grabbed his attention, and he forgot me completely. Valerie looped her arm around Fane’s and they walked toward the double doors. I was right behind them, silent as a ghost. When I reached the hall entrance leading to the locker rooms I stopped. I saw his head start to turn. I knew he was going to look back, but by the time he did I’d be gone.

Am I glad this week is over. I swear, it was so cold I froze my butt off, literally! freezing photo: wind-und-schnee.gif I work outside and with the bitter cold and gusting wind, I felt like a human popsicle. I really shouldn’t be complaining as so many folks had it so much worse. My mother said last night it hit 20 below.  I’m so glad I moved south!

Mardi Gras is over and now it’s on to the next big rush. Spring Break! Hard to believe it’s next month. Sure hope the weather cooperates and the beaches are sunny and warm.

I know I’m probably getting ahead of myself, but I’ve been getting my pool ready for swimming. I haven’t braved getting in, YET, but it sure looks sparkling clean and inviting. The gale force winds today are creating whitecaps. LOL

Here’s a cute video to warm you up:)

Maisy and the Missing Mice

Sneak Peek

.

The Buzz About Book One

Maisy and the Missing Mice is a fun chapter book featuring a smart and sassy tween girl as the title character; a solid and interesting plot featuring age-appropriate intrigue and suspense; and some terrific writing that carries the reader on a journey as a detective uncovering clues and solving the mystery of who stole the missing mice. I highly recommend this book as a read aloud book for children between the ages of 6 and 10 or for independent readers between the ages of 7 and 12 who love to read mysteries.” ~ Mother Daughter Book Reviews

“Woodrum certainly knows her target audience and does a very nice job with the character development of Maisy. This is an incredibly kid-friendly story that makes a great introduction to the genre of mystery for newly independent readers. It’s a quick page turning read that encourages kids to think outside of the box.” ~ The Children’s Book Review

“The delights from this book start with the cover art and continue with a fun story that is well-written.” ~ 5 Star Review, R. Johnson, Amazon

“My name is Kat. I am 9 years old. I would rate this a five because I like everything about it, the mystery the most. It was fun to read. My favorite part was the mystery and the end. I love this book so much. I think other kids would love it too because it has mystery and most kids would like mystery books. Most mystery books have a good mystery. I would love to read the whole series.” ~ 5 Star Review, Heather A., Amazon

“What an Amazing book. I totally love it. I admire the author dedication for writing an incredible book. While reading this book, it was very clear that author understand kids. I’ve always been an avid reader and this book is one of the best books I have read in 2014. This book grabs my attention from the very start of the book and couldn’t put it aside till I finish it.” ~ 5 Star Review, KristinT, Amazon

“I knew I would love this book simply because I knew it would remind me of the mystery books I read in my childhood. I really love how much trust the teachers and community as a whole put in Maisy. She is well deserving of their admiration as the way she finds clues and finds the mascot for the school is well thought out. This is a story any child would love to read. I hope Maisy continues to solve mysteries…” ~ 5 Star Review, Josh, Amazon
