That Voodoo That You Do
Chateau Rouge Book 1
by Jolie St. Amant
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Three love stories. One enchanting weekend in New Orleans.
The Chateau Rouge Hotel in New Orleans is rumored to be a haunted hotel.
It hides secrets and stories within its walls, tales that lure guests
from all over the world.
It seems this enchanting hotel is still up to its old tricks, igniting
the flames of romance while subtly nudging reluctant lovers to fall
into the hands of fate.
Will Josey’s love survive the test of time, despite being doomed from
the start? Can Julien melt Hannah’s cold heart, allowing her to see
that love is right in front of her? And will Chloe find the home and
love she’s been looking for all her life?

Dream a Little Dream of Me
As a two hundred year old vampire in New Orleans, Josey has seen her
share of stories. However, none are as tragic as her own. She falls
in love with the same man only to have him die in her arms each time.
Afraid of history repeating itself, Josey decides to push him away. However,
Archer won’t be easily deterred. He’s determined to pursue her,
no matter the cost.
What if this time it’s different? Is there a chance for them to change
their destiny? Or will this time destroy them all?

Hard Hearted Hannah
All work and no play, that’s how Hannah Montgomery likes her life. That
is, until company photographer, Julien, accompanies her to New
Orleans for a music festival. This dimpled Cajun with an easy smile
and laid back attitude has the potential to be a complication to her
well-organized existence.
Hannah tries everything to keep her distance from Julien, but seems to fail
every time. It’s as if something–or someone–keeps pushing them together.
Is it the allure of the sultry South? The romance of the Crescent City?
Or is the enchanting Chateau Rouge working its spell on these two lovers?
.
A Kiss to Build a Dream On
Chloe Devereaux arrives at the Chateau Rouge ready to leave her old life,
and cheating husband, behind. The magic and mystery of the town
captivates her, and soon sends her on an adventure leading her to
former high school classmate, Jared Peterson.
Jared was crazy about Chloe in school. Her relationship with Chandler
Montgomery had always kept her out of his reach. Now, seeing her in
New Orleans and alone, Jared sees this as his chance at something his
seventeen year old self had only imagined.
Chloe, finally experiencing the excitement of freedom, is not ready to jump
into a relationship. Will Jared be able to convince her that love can
be the most exhilarating feeling of all?
Buy now to start reading the series readers are calling “captivating”,
“intriguing”, and “unique”.

Genre: Suspense / Thriller

Synopsis

Great White Sharks were once hunted to near extinction. But now they’re back. And in the resort town of Surf Shore, people are dying.

Carson Sheridan has dedicated her life to shark conservation, but can’t deny the horrific series of attacks that point unerringly to a massive Great White – all off the same beach – all at the same time of year. Great Whites in California are in historically large numbers and record sizes. But the waters off Surf Shore are particularly deadly and Carson is about to discover why.

Is it a single killer? A big aggressive shark, returning every season?

Or, even worse, is it an exploding population – an ocean full of twenty-foot monsters?

And why here at Surf Shore? Again and Again?

Carson is determined to find the reason… and the answer just might cost her life.

My Review
.
This book took me back to when I was a youngster. Brought up a lot of fun memories and reminded of how the highs were high and the lows were low. All that excitement and angst.
.
The story revolves around twelve year old Brian and events leading up to when he receives a birthday card for a free pizza. It’s also about how he deals with his older parents who, after adopting him, later had two young boys of their own. He questions his connection with all of them and turns to his best friend for companionship, which lands him in a few pickles.
.
There’s plenty to make you chuckle and the book also has some depth to it. I was quickly caught up in it and had a really good time.
.
The only real glitch was the use of cuss words. I didn’t expect that in a middle grade book. Sure, our kids swear when they can get away with it. Just a word of caution to those that are sensitive about this in their kids reading material.
.
I’m glad I read Free Pizza and would be interested in other books by this author. The writing was strong, the characters were genuine and the scenes were very visual for me. Plus, I laughed out loud on more than one occasion.

Synopsis

Brian McSpadden is always hungry. Does he have a disease? Worms? Does it have something to do with his being adopted? He spends his days at his crazy friend Danny’s house, hoping for snacks, but nothing seems to fill the void. Then Brian receives a mysterious birthday card that says, Free Pizza. He soon discovers the card has nothing to do with food and everything to do with the big questions in his life: where did I come from, why did my mother give me up and is there anyone out there who will like me the way I am?To read reviews, please visit G.C. G.C. McRae is the bestselling author of two young adult novels, three illustrated children’s books and a collection of original fairy tales. His writing is fall-down funny, even when the theme is darker than a coal miner’s cough. McRae reads to anybody at any time, in person or online, for free, which probably explains why he meets so many people and sells so many books.

In his latest work, Free Pizza, McRae spins the highly emotional themes from his decidedly unfunny childhood into a brilliantly comic yarn. After being given up for adoption by his teenage mom back when single girls were forced to hide unplanned pregnancies, his adoptive parents didn’t exactly keep him under the stairs but, well, let’s just say, there were spiders.

A lot has changed since then. McRae’s own children have now grown and he runs a small farm with his wife, who is herself an award-winning writer.

Synopsis

I’ve never felt at home at Juilliard. My stagefright always makes me choke when I’m under the spotlight, something my classmates enjoy watching. But when I’m dragged into a new world—where singing is more than a talent, it’s magic—I can’t hide my voice anymore. This new power is tempting, but terrifying forces swirl around the kingdom of Cantus.

Missing girls, rivals at my new academy, Rebels, demons slaying people in the street—and it all leads back to him.

The mysterious, powerful Phantom, who lurks beneath the school and demands he be my teacher—demands which soon grow into something deeper, darker. But if I want to survive this place, or have any hope of going home, I may have no choice but to give in to him… and all he desires.

Author’s Note: Taken by the Phantom is the first book in a Magic Academy Romance series that will set your heart–and other parts of you–on fire.

Excerpt:
Phantom.

And for once, I cannot help myself.

I am scarcely more than shadow, not nearly as full in form as she or Suzanna. Perhaps she will not notice or name the sensation of touch. Perhaps she will believe it a cast of the magic. Perhaps, perhaps, she will know it is me.

Just her hair. A touch. It is all I need.

I lean close to her, alight my fingertips upon her arms. I am not fully man, but half in shadow, and yet I can feel the rain soaked into the cloth, the heat of her skin just beneath. She inhales sharply when I touch her, lips parting further, eyelids fluttering. Shh, I think. A moment more. One touch.

She grants me my wish, her eyes remaining shut, and leans back ever so slightly, almost imperceptibly, into me. I draw nearer still, savoring the ripple of her hair, stirred by my breath. I am close enough I could press my lips to the vital curve of her neck, close enough I could slide my hands over her breasts, pull her flush against me, test the fit of her curves against mine.

What pleasure is there in that?

She arched herself against me when we met in the Hall of Mirrors. She consumed her own fear like the snake’s tail and came out stronger for it. Yet now her eyes remain closed.

I suddenly want to scream at her to open them. To look at me, to touch me, to want me. And yet she does not. She is little more than silk, supple against me, shaped by my contours. I press myself closer, my body against hers, and brush my fingers along the length of her arms.

Still she remains in the rhapsody of Suzanna’s closed-eye song, and still the darkness swells between the light in heady thrusts.

But Krissy does not sober. She rests her hands in my palms, her thin fingers like porcelain, dainty and fine, mine in black leather, monstrous beside them. With me beside her, she is a sun in eclipse, half-swallowed by darkness.

Her breathing has deepened; it matches mine, step for step. We are in tandem as I press myself to her, the curves of her hips, fuller in contact than in sight. That hunger inside of me stirs once more. Against the swell of her body, I harden and smother the alien urge to gasp.

Then her fingers tighten on mine, and at once there is silence.

different newspapers around the country, writing about politics,
crime, arts, environmental issues, crack addicts, prostitutes, and
parades. She eventually wised up and decided that making up political
fights and crime scenes would be a lot more fun than reporting on
real ones. Today, she lives in southern Indiana, where she spends
most of her time daydreaming about fictional lives and/or thinking
about wool.

Inside the Asylum
A Kathy Ryan Novel #2
by Mary SanGiovanni
Genre: Supernatural Horror
Pub Date: 5/7/19

From “master of cosmic horror” (Library Journal) Mary
SanGiovanni, comes the latest terrifying novel featuring occult
specialist Kathy Ryan . . .
A mind is a terrible thing to destroy . . .
Kathy has been hired to assess the threat of patient Henry Banks, an inmate
at the Connecticut-Newlyn Hospital for the Criminally Insane, the
same hospital where her brother is housed. Her employers believe that
Henry has the ability to open doors to other dimensions with his
mind—making him one of the most dangerous men in modern history.
Because unbeknownst to Kathy, her clients are affiliated with certain
government organizations that investigate people like Henry—and the
potential to weaponize such abilities.
What Kathy comes to understand in interviewing Henry, and in her
unavoidable run-ins with her brother, is that Henry can indeed use
his mind to create “Tulpas”—worlds, people, and creatures so
vivid they come to actual life. But now they want life outside of
Henry. And they’ll stop at nothing to complete their emancipation.
It’s up to Kathy—with her brother’s help—to stop them, and if
possible, to save Henry before the Tulpas take him over—and
everything else around him.

Behind the Door
A Kathy Ryan Novel #1

Occult specialist Kathy Ryan returns in this thrilling novel of paranormal
horror from Mary SanGiovanni, the author of Chills . . .
Some doors should never be opened . . .
In the rural town of Zarepath, deep in the woods on the border of New Jersey and
Pennsylvania, stands the Door. No one knows where it came from, and
no one knows where it leads. For generations, folks have come to the
Door seeking solace or forgiveness. They deliver a handwritten letter
asking for some emotional burden to be lifted, sealed with a mixture
of wax and their own blood, and slide it beneath the Door. Three days
later, their wish is answered—for better or worse.
Kari is a single mother, grieving over the suicide of her teenage daughter. She made a
terrible mistake, asking the powers beyond the Door to erase the
memories of her lost child. And when she opened the Door to retrieve
her letter, she unleashed every sin, secret, and spirit ever trapped
on the other side.
Now, it falls to occultist Kathy Ryan to seal the door before Zarepath
becomes hell on earth . . .

Mary SanGiovanni is the author of the Bram Stoker nominated novel The
Hollower, its sequels Found You and The Triumvirate, Thrall, Chaos, Savage Woods, Chills—which
introduced occult security consultant Kathy Ryan—as well as the novellas For Emmy,
Possessing Amy, and The Fading Place, as well as numerous short stories.
She has been writing fiction for over a decade, has a masters in writing popular fiction from
Seton Hill University, and is a member of The Authors Guild, Penn Writers,

STOKER’S WILDE

Publication date: May 30th, 2019

Stokers cover

My Review

The moment I spotted the cover for this book, I wanted to read it. Then I read the description and really wanted to read it. I read the first few paragraphs, settled in, and had so much fun, reading this straight through into the wee hours. What an adventure.

I thought this would be about werewolves from what I read right at the beginning. Then I thought it would be about vampires. It was about both, along with some famous authors, intriguing and familiar side characters, and a writing flavor that followed the historical period of Stoker and Wilde.

The story is told from several points of view through correspondence and journal entries and it kept the pace fast. There was no stumbling over a switch in perspective. I especially enjoyed this.

What more can I say without spoilers. Real life characters with romantic entanglements and personal conflicts joined in a fictional story of battle against evil beings had me forgetting at times that this was fiction. This is one I’ll be reading again.

Ghost Mine BT Poster

GHOST MINE
Hunter Shea
Publication date: May 30th, 2019

Ghost Mine Cover

My Review

I’ve read almost all of Hunter’s books. This was previously published as Hell Hole and I hadn’t got to it yet.

I had high hopes for Ghost Mine. Nat Blackburn, former Rough Rider, has been in tough situations. Investigated odd occurrences. When President Roosevelt requests he check out something strange going on in a deserted mining town, he saddles up and heads off to find out what’s what. It doesn’t take long for things to go as sideways as tumbleweeds blowing in the wind, and soon Nat and a few other characters are fighting for their lives.

Hunter can write some weird and scary stuff. I especially like his stories with cryptids. You haven’t read about any like the ones that come after these characters. And the atmosphere is tense. The unexpected can and does jump out at you, keeping the story fast and furious.

I love western horror and this felt like the old west. Rugged, dirty and no technology to do the work for you. And Hunter creates some awesome characters. Nat and his partner, Teta, are my favorites. With a woman of mystery with loads of sass joining the pair. And the two strange men that insinuate themselves into the investigation present their own unique spin on things and I look at them as well needed comic relief.

Why anyone would want to visit a scary ghost town and enter a mine where people go in and don’t come out is beyond me. But if Hunter didn’t write this scenario, I would have missed out on one heck of a read.

Hunter Shea is the author of over 20 books, with a
specialization in cryptozoological horror that includes The
Jersey Devil, The Dover Demon, Loch Ness Revenge and
many others. His novel The Montauk Monster, was named
one of the best reads of the summer by Publishers Weekly. A
trip to the International Cryptozoology Museum will find several of his
cryptid books among the fascinating displays. Living in a true haunted house
inspired his Jessica Backman: Death in the Afterlife series (Forest of
Shadows, Sinister Entity and Island of the Forbidden). He was selected to be
part of the launch of Samhain Publishing’s new horror line in 2011 alongside
legendary author Ramsey Campbell. When he’s not writing thrillers and
horror, he also spins tall tales for middle grade readers on Amazon’s highly
regarded Rapids reading app.
An avid podcaster, he can be seen and heard on Monster Men, one of the
longest running video horror podcasts in the world, and Final Guys, focusing
on weekly movie and book reviews. His nostalgic column about the magic of
80s horror, Video Visions, is featured monthly at Cemetery Dance Online.
You can find his short stories in a number of anthologies, including
Chopping Block Party, The Body Horror Book and Fearful Fathoms II.
Living with his crazy and supportive family and two cats, he’s happy to be
close enough to New York City to see the skyline without having to pay New
York rent. You can follow his travails at www.huntershea.com.
