Fateless

Stateless#3

by Meli Raine

Publication date: December 26th 2019
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense

Synopsis

The future isn’t real.

The past isn’t real, either.

Only the present is, solid and full, flying at our faces, our bodies, our hearts and souls at breakneck speed as we work to take it all in.

As we work to protect others.

And, finally – ourselves.

We’ve started to break the bonds of Stateless, a system as rotten as the one it seeks to destroy. But systems are organisms with one brutal goal: to survive, whatever it takes.

Kina has to do the unfathomable to save a different system, one she created out of empathy and love for children we rescued from the only home they know.

She’ll use her mind, her body, her spirit — and her ultimate weapons: love, and —

Me.

Fateless is the final book in USA Today bestselling author Meli Raine’s newest trilogy.

The Stateless Trilogy also includes:
Stateless
Traceless

Genre: Cozy Mystery

From 56% in the eBook.

“Because of her, I nearly lost our dog and my husband. And people thought she was such a nice person. I wonder what they’d think if I told them the real truth about her. At least the people who presently have their dogs here won’t have to worry about something terrible happening to their dogs like what happened to mine.”

I think this woman is definitely on my suspect list!

~~~~~
Synopsis
Mike, the sheriff of Beaver County, Oregon and his wife Kelly, the
owner of Kelly’s Koffee Shop, have just returned from a fly fishing
trip to Cuba. On the drive home from the airport Mike gets a call
informing him that the owner of Doggie Love Kennel, where they had
boarded their dogs when they were in Cuba, has been murdered. To make
matters worse, all of the dogs in the kennel, including Rebel and
Lady, have been released and are running loose in the surrounding
area. They immediately begin to search for their dogs as well as
trying to determine who killed Mary Barnes.
They have plenty of suspects to choose from: the druggie kennel
employee; the owner of the award winning Yorkie that was impregnated
while staying at the kennel; the disgruntled head of the Pit Bull
Sanctuary who was instructed by the owner of the kennel to get his pit
bulls off of the property within twenty-four hours; the impoverished
woman whose property is next to the luxurious kennel and is jealous of
the dogs being boarded there; the kennel manager; and her husband who
has anger issues. Will Mike and Kelly find the killer before the
killer comes after them? And what about the dog named Skyy? Is she
cute enough to make Mike rethink his decision to only have two dogs?
Can she worm her way into his heart?
Nightfall
by Jake Halpern and Peter Kujawinski
Genre: Horror / YA
  Teaser from page 74 in the hard cover.
“Everything that we’ve been doing, we do for one simple reason. For generations, it has kept us safe. Every household in Bliss follows these directions, and upon return to our homes fourteen years later, everything is in perfect order. ”
~~~~~

Synopsis

After fourteen years of Day comes fourteen years of Night. Be sure not to get left in the dark.

On Marin’s island, sunrise doesn’t come every twenty-four hours – it comes every twenty-eight years. Now the sun is just a sliver of light on the horizon. The weather is turning cold. The shadows are growing long. The dark is rising. And soon it will be Night.

The eerie Evening sunset is causing the tide to begin its slow roll out hundreds of miles, and so Marin, along with her twin brother Kana and the rest of the islanders, must frantically begin preparations to sail south, where they will wait out the long Night. But first the house must be made ready for their departure. Locks must be taken off doors. Furniture must be arranged just so. Tables must be set as if for dinner. The rituals are bizzare – unnerving, even – but none of the adults will discuss why things must be this way. And then just as the ships are about to sail, the twins’ friend Line goes missing. Marin and Kana know where he has gone, and that the only way to rescue him is to do it themselves. And surely the ships will wait?

Because Night is falling. Their island is changing. And something is stirring in the dark.

Nearly Departed In Deadwood

Deadwood #1

by Ann Charles

Nearly Departed in Deadwood (Deadwood Humorous Mystery Book 1) by [Charles, Ann]

Genre: Mystery / Paranormal

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

My Review

I can’t remember which made me grab this book, the catchy title or the awesome cover. Guess it doesn’t matter since I finished the book and had so much fun.

Violet Parker is a single mom with a lot on her plate. She has two young kids to raise, a job with an expiration date if she doesn’t hurry and sell her first house, a nasty coworker bent on getting her fired and a dwindling bank account. She sees a way out of it when she’s offered her first house to sell. Turns out it’s a mess and she has her work cut out for her to get it ready for showing. Along comes a mysterious man who’s looking to buy a house. Something’s not quite right about him but what can you do.

Violet doesn’t plan on inserting herself into the investigation when young girls start disappearing in Deadwood. But, with a young girl of her own, she can’t stay out of it.

I couldn’t help but relate to Violet. I was a single mom and know all about juggling a job and raising a child. You do whatever it takes. She was scatter brained at times. Who wouldn’t be. And no shrinking violet. I loved how she stood up to her nasty coworker. And her signature purple boots. Gotta love those.

There was a bit of a paranormal element to this story that came from a source I wasn’t expecting. And some sexual tension you could cut with a knife.

I had great fun with this one and have already started the next book. I’m excited to see what trouble is stirring next in Deadwood.

Now, if she could just convince her only buyer to stop rejecting vintage homes as if they’re haunted. Short on time and long on worry, she refuses to give up her dream of a fresh start in Deadwood. But with a malicious coworker trying to get her fired, a secret admirer sending her creepy messages, and a sexy stranger hiding skeletons in his closet, will Violet end up as one of Deadwood’s dearly departed?

Some chit chat.

This week was a blur. It went by so fast. Had to work right up til Christmas day and I just cooked a small meal and spent time at home with my son.

We finished The Witcher. I’m still not that thrilled with it but will probably continue if the show comes back with more episodes.

I apologize for not visiting your posts like usual. I had so little time and they just piled up in my emails. Things should get back to normal soon and I’ll be back to sharing reviews of some great books I read. Here’s to a fun New Year!

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

Gorgon’s Price
Redemption of the Gorgons Book 1
by Claire Davon
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Print Length: 209 pages
Publication Date: December 3, 2019
Euryale will never forget the day the gods turned her into a monster. After millennia, her heart beats faster at the idea of regaining her normal form. For the feel of skin and not scales, hair and not snakes. But the price could be too high.
Knowing full well the gods can’t be trusted, Euryale agrees to take on a reluctant partner to track down whoever is murdering a growing number of gods. A murderer no one cared about until the killings edged uncomfortably close to bigger and bigger pantheons. Tracking the murderers down is the price she has to pay for her newly restored form—and that of her two equally cursed sisters.
Asher’s unusual gift for eerily horrific sound effects make him a highly sought-after voiceover artist. While he keeps a low profile, there has always been a ticking time bomb in the form of the bargain between his banshee mother and his father, the god Ares. It’s time to pay up—or pay with his life.
As Euryale and Asher dance around their mutual mistrust, the friction ignites a fire of unexpected attraction. But love is almost as impossible as the dangerous task ahead. Because even if the murderers don’t stab them in the back, the fickle gods certainly will.
Claire can’t remember a time when writing wasn’t part of her life. Growing up, she used to write stories with her friends. As a teenager she started out reading fantasy and science fiction, but her diet quickly changed to romance and happily-ever-after’s. A native of Massachusetts and cold weather, she left all that behind to move to the sun and fun of California, but has always lived no more than twenty miles from the ocean.
In college she studied acting with a minor in creative writing. In hindsight she should have flipped course studies. Before she was published, she sold books on eBay and discovered some of her favorite authors by sampling the goods, which was the perfect solution. Claire has many book-irons in the fire, most notably her urban fantasy series, The Elementals’ Challenge series, but writes contemporary and shifter romances as well as.
While she’s not a movie mogul or actor, she does work in the film industry with her office firmly situated in the 90210 district of Hollywood. Prone to break out into song, she is quick on feet and just as quick with snappy dialogue. In addition to writing she does animal rescue, reads, and goes to movies. She loves to hear from fans, so feel free to drop her a line.

Boy In The Box

  by Marc E. Fitch

48460989

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

Genre: Horror

From page 56 in the paperback.

But then the figure stepped closer to the lamplight, and suddenly Jonathan could make out its features. The face was a crude mask of wood with poorly carved slits for eyes, mouth and nose and primitive designs of dull color painted on the flat face. Upon its head were the antlers of a tremendous stag, which reached like  bony fingers up into the night.

I’m well into this one and it sure has some eerie atmosphere.

~~~~~
Synopsis
“This is what true horror is meant to be, quiet and thoughtful, an eerie sense of something lurking just ahead in your path with no way of escape; BOY IN THE BOX by Marc E. Fitch is the haunting guilt that reminds us mistakes from the past can return at any time, and in the worst of ways.” — Eric J. Guignard, award-winning author and editor, including That Which Grows Wild and A World of Horror Ten years ago a mysterious and tragic hunting accident deep in the Adirondack Mountains left a boy buried in a storied piece of land known as Coombs’ Gulch and four friends with a terrible secret. Now, Jonathan Hollis and brothers Michael and Conner Braddick must return to the place that changed their lives forever in order to keep their secret buried. What they don’t realize is that they are walking into a trap — one set decades earlier by a supernatural being who is not confined by time or place: a demon that demands a sacrifice. FLAME TREE PRESS is the new fiction imprint of Flame Tree Publishing. Launched in 2018 the list brings together brilliant new authors and the more established; the award winners, and exciting, original voices.
