Late at night in the subway, a little girl and her father wait for a train that runs deep beneath New York City. It will be a ride they never forget.

“The 50th Street Station was practically empty, a rare event in New York City any time of year. It made me uneasy.

I pulled my daughter closer to me. You have to be careful with those you cherish, especially in a city this big.

Sometimes it eats people.”

After he lost his wife, all he has in the world is his Baby Kat. He won’t let anything happen to her.

As they wait for the train, the man observes a group of young people. It looks like they’ve been clubbing and the young men are drunk and rowdy, showing off for the ladies. The only other person there is an old Chinese woman. She waits patiently, clutching some crumpled newspapers in her claw like hands.

This group of people are in for the ride of their lives. They are about to enter…. The Twilight Zone. Sorry I couldn’t resist that!

But really, they will be wishing they were watching the show.

When Evans describes the trains imminent arrival, I swear I felt the cool breeze pushed in front of the train and the rumble of its approach under my feet.

And just as the train arrives…

In the flash of the trains lights Baby Kat sees something.

“I saw them Daddy, I saw them. In the tunnel,” she cried.

“Saw what?”

“People, Daddy, there were people in there. I saw them, down in the tunnel on the tracks,” she whimpered. “It’s the mole people coming for us….”

I swear I felt like I was watching the movie. Evans writes classic horror so well, you’ll be reaching for the popcorn.

I gave this story Five Stars because Evans writes horror just the way I like it.

I’ve read several of Evans Light’s stories and they were scary good. I love his writing and am currently working my way through more.

If you like classic horror and short stories, you’ll want to get this. I’ve never met a book by Evans that I didn’t like.

Evans Light has lived here and there across the United States, from the mountains to the beaches to the desert, and currently chooses to reside in a warm, southern state where the living is easy.

Frequently drawn to uncommon experiences, Evans has thrown himself headfirst into a wide range of unusual situations, from testing low-level-entry parachutes with British Army Airborne units to travelling the vast reaches of inner space using sensory deprivation tanks. Evans Light has been in love with the written word from an early age, and works in a wide variety of genres, including horror, thrillers, sci-fi and humor – but stories of the “Weird Tales” variety still remain his favorite. Before I wrote, I read. Voraciously. When I wasn’t able to read, I listened to audio books on tape or CD. Still do. Hi. My name is Robynn E Sheahan and I live and write from the Cascade Mountains of the Pacific Northwest.

I started to dabble in writing while working as a Paramedic/Firefighter in Northern California. Trust me, it’s not like it appears on TV. There was plenty of time for books. Ideas from dreams follow me into warm sunny days or the quiet of falling snow. What ifs feed a vivid imagination. Even miss-typed phrases may lead to an aha moment. Brain storming sessions standing in windy, dark parking lots with fellow writers release thoughts that pry at the corners of my mind, grasping for purchase. Sometimes the ideas pursue me, with persistence. About three years ago the dabbling became serious when worlds and characters screamed for, no, demanded attention. So I wrote my first manuscript. Critiques and rewrites filled the next two years. I now had STORM OF ARRANON, the first book in the series.

About the author

Sam Hammack lives in the Horde-free zone somewhere between the endless cow pastures of Kansas and the rolling green hills of Missouri. He spends most of his time with his wife and their beautiful baby daughter and the rest of his eccentric family, which of course includes Roxy the Rottweiler. He will never turn down a game of pool or Clue, but is very difficult to reach during baseball season. He has written many novellas, short stories, and some poetry, but this is his first published full length novel. Writing it has been a great learning experience. I reviewed this several weeks ago but wanted to post it again.

Here is my review.

Greg awakens with a sense of urgency. A quick glance at his clock confirms it. He’s overslept and it’ll be a mad dash to get to work on time. He forgoes breakfast, figuring he’ll grab a java at Starbucks and throws on the cleanest clothes he can find.

He spots one of his shoes but for the life of him, can’t find the other. Where is it? With no time to search any longer, he throws on a dirty pair of tennis shoes and heads out the door.

A quick glance at his living room gives him a sense that it’s different, empty somehow.

Traffic isn’t too bad until he gets close to Starbucks. Cars are lined up around the block. A huge SUV gives up its spot and he squeezes into line.

Crushing pain seizes his chest. Oh God, not a heart attack. As the pain subsides and leaves completely he has to give up his place in line or he’ll be late for work.

Just a few minutes late, he sneaks to his desk while no ones paying attention. Before he knows it, it’s time for lunch. How could that be?

Why the feelings of dread, the panic attacks, the missing time? What is it about today?

I had a great time reading Gone, Adam’s first published book.

The suspense builds, you feel Greg’s confusion and panic, and then the twist is revealed.

Anyone who likes short stories with a feel of The Dark Side or The Twilight Zone will like this.

About Adam Light and where to find him.

I have spent the better part of my life in northeast Florida, but I was born in West Virginia. I was consumed at an early age by an unquenchable thirst for the written word. Words, in general, when I think about it.

I was a quiet bookish kid, but after moving down south I grew into a wild and rebellious teenager. I grew my hair long, became enthralled with heavy metal music, and all the rest.

I’ve mellowed somewhat, but I love life, I love my family, and I love to write stories. I have a mad passion for it.

I am proud of the stories I have written and sincerely hope that readers like myself have enjoyed reading them as much as , and plan to continue tapping away at this keyboard until my fingers won’t move anymore.

I grew up on a small farm in Washington State but now live in the mean “burbs” of Minnesota with my husband and our dogs, Rugby and Willow. With our kids now pushed out of the nest and encouraged to fly, I spend much time reading, writing, collecting books, riding motorcycles with my husband, and keeping one step ahead of AARP. I’m a member of the Christian Writer’s Guild and try to attend a writer’s conference somewhere each year.
