Hello everyone and Happy Sunday!
So, what did I do this week. A lot of the usual work and stuff. I did read several books and binged on movies.
Then I went swimming. The pool has warmed to low 80s and it’s deliciously refreshing! I’m remembering my sunscreen so I don’t get too much exposure. I was enjoying the water and found myself humming a song from Finding Nemo. Remember “nothing in my noggin’ Dory?

I got so excited when the new pool stairs arrived. My brother came over Saturday morning to help me put them together. Wouldn’t you know it. The most important part was missing. So, not being able to get anyone on the phone over the weekend, I have to wait until Monday to get someone on the line and get the missing part sent to me. Ugh!!!
My son and I had a movie night and popped popcorn, turned out the lights, and blasted Ant Man into our living room on the big screen. Corny but fun.
As we were watching the movie, we noticed a sickening sweet smell in the room. Turns out my dog rolled in something dead. I got out the doggie smell good spray and dosed him good. Helped a little. Then another obnoxious odor oozed in the room. My dog does not usually pass gas. But, boy, he caused our eyes to water. LOL Can’t wait for whatever it is to pass through his system. We need gas masks!

I’m trying to get caught up on some series by Koontz and King. Two of my favorite authors. Grabbed these two.
I also received a new one from Christine Amsden. It’s Kaitlin’s Tale, a spinoff from her Cassie Scot series, which I adored. I’ll share the cover as soon as I’m allowed to.

I grew up reading everything I could get my hands on from my mom’s Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew to Little Women. When I wasn’t flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although I did manage every once in a while to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. Another job change, this time from lawyer to B&B owner and I was again fed up and ready to scream I quit, which is incredibly difficult when you own the business. Thus, I shut the B&B during the week and in the off-season and started writing. Several books later I find myself in Istanbul writing full-time.

Run. Run faster. As much as I strained my legs to move, they were immobile, like I was waist deep in
quicksand.

I tried to scream for help but my mouth was full, like it was stuffed with cotton—no sound would escape.
I felt something clutching my shoulder. No, it was someone. He was pushing me forward and then yanking me back. I tried to jerk away but he had a tight grip, like a vice.
I have to break free.
The tugging got harder, more forceful. He was calling my name— over and over. He knew my name.
“Laura, Laura.”
I jolted awake—my husband’s hand still on my shoulder.
“Honey, wake up. You’re having another bad dream.”
Slowly, I turned over in bed and looked at him—his dark brown eyes were fixated on me. I could see them clearly as the light from the bathroom brightened our bedroom.
For a month now, we had slept with this light on.
I could see the small wrinkle on his forehead. I loved that wrinkle though wished he didn’t have good reason to be so concerned. I was enduring the nightmares, but he had to deal with my

I remember when we first met—ten years ago in chemistry lab at Georgia Tech. He had walked up to me with those warm eyes and a charming, confident smile and asked, “Want to be partners?”
Two years later he took me to Stone Mountain Park, rented a small rowboat and, in the moonlight, he pulled out a diamond ring and asked me again, “Want to be partners?”
Life had seemed just about perfect.
Until now.
We looked at each other for a moment. Then he propped himself up on his elbow and said softly, “Laura, I feel so helpless. I know it’s only been a month, but…”
He hesitated.
“What?” I asked.
“It’s just as bad as that first night. After it happened. Look, I want to make you feel safe again, but I
don’t know how.”

He paused for a second.“Don’t be mad at me, but yesterday I made an appointment for you. I was going to talk to you about it in the morning if you had another bad dream. I found a woman who is downtown by my office. She’s been practicing for about twenty years, got her doctorate from Emory and comes with really good patient reviews.”
He looked for my reaction and continued. “I made the appointment for you at 4:00 so we can go to dinner afterward. You know what you always say. You’ll try anything once, right?”
“I told you I don’t want to see a psychiatrist,” I pushed back. “I just need more time. I’ll bounce back.
You know I almost came in the house on my own today. Besides, if I see a psychiatrist, on every job application I complete in the future, I’ll have to check the ‘Yes’ box when they ask if I’ve had mental health treatment.”

“You can check the box ‘No.’ Besides, if that’s the only thing stopping you, I think you should give it a

The tone in his voice was different—more helpless than normal. Chris had been so understanding, so

Hello everyone and Happy Sunday!
Been a fast week. And I can’t say I did much. Work was so-so and I didn’t do much around the house or yard. Rained most of the week and I just got the blues.
That’s all over now. I got up this morning and watched the sun rise from my back patio and it was glorious. A steady breeze is blowing in from the south, bringing the scent of blooming flowers and I am overwhelmed with all the different shades of green. A superb day!

There she fell in love with the worlds of C.S. Lewis and Roald Dahl, and wrote her first fantasy about Dodo birds, wizards, and a flying ship (and has been writing fantasy ever since). She’s lived in other exotic locations, including her family-owned campground in New Hampshire and in Hawaii where she served as a U.S. Navy photographer. She now lives with her family and two crazy cats in an old farmhouse and dreams of returning one day to a castle.

Today we are excited to share the cover reveal of Two Brothers, One Redhead, and a Stolen Giraffe by Sarah Mandell. It’s a quirky coming-of-age story about the complications of love, loss, and new-found independence. It releases in May 2016.
About the Book:
The McElroy brothers find trouble easily. Dylan plunges headfirst into it, while Daniel cleans up behind him. That’s the way it’s always been, ever since their mother left them to be bounced around the foster system, causing trouble wherever they went. The soon-to-be euthanized giraffe they just stole from the Northside Animal Park may be their biggest predicament yet, in more ways than one, but there’s no undoing what’s been done.
Lost in Nebraska without a plan, clueless how to care for the ornery old beast in the back of the trailer, the well-meaning brothers stop to rest at an abandoned-looking barn. A pretty redhead with a snappy temperament and a shotgun discovers the boys and their sixteen-foot stowaway. Her name is Josephine, she lives on this farm with her father who is spoken of, but never seen, and her root cellar has more locks than a bank vault. She’s got a way with animals and plenty of secrets, not to mention the interest of two brothers who swore they’d never let some girl come between them.
About the Author:
Sarah Mandell is a professionally trained artist with a background in commercial interior design. She’s also the brains and busy hands behind a thriving indie craft business called Once Again Sam in Greenville, SC. Even with an ever-expanding collection of creative outlets, she’s truly the happiest when she’s writing. Two Brothers, One Redhead, and a Stolen Giraffe is Sarah’s second novel. Her debut novel was Celia on the Run (Untreed Reads, 2012).
