One of local residents must know more than they are letting on. As the body count begins to rise, can Andorra turn her luck around in time to catch the murderer before they strike again?

~300 Pages
Digital ASIN ‏ : ‎ B09QJCVY4Z

A new mystery to pursue … a growing threat… Will she be able to stop them?

Claire Abelard has never been normal. She has always been able to see and communicate with energy projections, or the entities more commonly known as ghosts. As an agent of the Bureau for Historical Preservation, her abilities come in handy on the job, but they tend to complicate every other aspect of her life.

Now, four months after a series of world-shattering events in Galveston, Claire’s life is still in turmoil. No one at Bureau headquarters in Boston will even acknowledge the existence of the sinister secret organization known as The Syndicate, but Claire is convinced they are behind the disappearances of dozens of rogue energy projections.

When Claire hears that rogues in New Orleans are behaving strangely, she immediately joins the investigation. As she and her fellow agents unravel the new mystery, they discover The Syndicate has more ominous plans for the rogues than simply making them disappear… and it appears they have plans for Claire as well.

Ghost Agents: Revelations is a cozy, paranormal mystery that continues the story of Claire and her work with Bureau for Historical Preservation.

About Nita DeBorde

Nita DeBorde is a published author and teacher from Houston, TX. Writing and teaching are her two major passions, though traveling and being dog-mom to a crazy Staffordshire-Boxer mix named Mabel are high on the list as well.

Nita has taught high school French for more than 20 years and absolutely loves her “day job” job (about 95% of the time). She loves to travel, and not surprisingly, France is her favorite destination, though her home state of Texas runs a close second.

Nita’s first novel, Project Lachesis, is currently available in both Kindle and hardcopy format from Amazon.com.

Today I am excited to share an excerpt and giveaway from Some Days, a standalone spicy romance in the Sometimes Love Happens Collection by J. L. Lora. Lora is the author of over twelve published novels, including two in Spanish. Her characters are real, flawed, and full of grit as they navigate life, love, and more.

Some Days

Amazon | B&N | Kobo | Apple

Dutiful daughter, my brother’s keeper, civil servant, and protector of my city—that’s me, Officer Dahlia Wicker. I’m a master at switching hats, until an ambush in the line of duty forces a new title on me—gunshot victim. I wake up in the emergency room, scared to death, and staring into the face of an angel with soft-yet-firm hands and a smile that makes my heart tremble.

Dr. Weston Ellison’s promise to look after my little brother eases my anxiety. His hands on my skin remind me I haven’t been touched by a man in a long time. After my recovery, I can’t stop running into him and I’m forced to admit how often I think about his lips and how badly I want them on me.

We are way too different.

Weston comes from generational wealth, and I’m Baltimore humble. Desire opens the door to our relationship, but feelings break in and take us hostage.

When my brother is unjustly arrested, a spotlight blares on our differences. Our bond falls victim to prejudice, privilege, and racism. Are we strong enough to withstand these age-old threats, or will they destroy us for good?

I’m still chuckling as I walk through the door of the 24-hour coffee bar.

That is until my gaze collides with the tall man with the broad shoulders and a smile so beautiful and perfect it should be on Colgate Optimum White ads. It takes away my breath and my good mood.

Doctor Hottie from the ER.

“Dahlia.”

Ugh. “Stop calling me that,” I practically growl at him.

“But it’s your name.”

I sigh. “Call me Officer Wicker, Dr. Ellison.”

He nods, but his eyes still hold that teasing sparkle. “Dr. Ellis. I shortened it so it doesn’t sound so… pretentious. I hope you like that better.”

“I’m pretty sure that’s illegal.”

“Not when I file papers in court.”

“Why would you do that?” Nothing about this guy makes sense to me. “Never mind, I don’t care. Why are you here? Didn’t you hear this place got robbed around this time a couple of nights ago?”

He nods, toying with the apple in his hand. “I did hear that. But with you here, I know we are all safe.”

Jesus. I can only shake my head. Why does he insist on flirting with me?

The better question is how do you resist? That mouth…those lips are nothing if not crafted by God’s own hands.

“How’s your shoulder?” he asks.

It flexes like it’s responding to his voice.

“Fine,” I say.

“Have you done a follow-up?” He takes a step closer, and I take one back.

I do a full round flex for him. “It’s all healed and better than ever. I finished my physical therapy, and they declared it’s perfect.”

So, get off my damned back.

But his eyes are all over my body. All over the uniform that’s supposed to make me look like the epitome of authority, but under his gaze feels like a Cat Woman costume. But he doesn’t linger like the pervs do. No, this fucking weirdo stares back into my eyes and smiles, exposing those perfect TV doctor pearly whites. They’re probably veneers.

That’s why he smiles so much. He’s getting his money’s worth. And why is my body tingling like someone jabbed me with live wire.

“I have to go. I have the four a.m. shift,” he says, turning around and putting a twenty on the counter.

Thank God, he’s leaving. He’s nice and he saved my life, but I don’t want any more reminders of that night. It’s enough that it’s stayed with me, always popping up at the oddest moments in the day and making me wake up in cold sweats sometimes. I need to forget that night and this damned doctor. Even if he has those nice arms and that narrow waist and nice ass that doesn’t belong on a man with that face. Or a doctor.

He grabs his coffee and turns around again, his gaze pinning me on the spot. “It was great to see you again, Dahlia.”

I’m frozen for a second, not knowing what to say, fighting the warm wave settling in my belly.

“You too, doc,” I blurt out.

WTF.

I don’t know why I say it and hate myself because his smile shines brighter and deeper. And I get warmer lower in my body.

“You look really beautiful, as always.” He walks away, leaving me to stare after him with my insides roiling in a way I really don’t like.

Maybe he triggers memories of the night I got shot.  It’s probably a panic attack manifesting.

She reached out to brush a small leaf from his hair, her hand brushing the side of his face. “C’mon,” she said as she pulled him toward a bench. Once they were seated, she looked him in the eye. “Yeah, this morning threw me for a loop, but frankly, that’s just the tip of the iceberg as to how fucked up I am. All my ‘I’m fine’ comments aside, I know I’m a mess. I already told you, I don’t date anymore. I’m no good at relationships and I’m okay with that. I don’t want to lead you on or anything.”

He grinned. “Would I like to ask you out? Hell, yes. But I realize we’re on a mini vacation, in an odd situation, and you live half a world away. Besides, there’s obviously a lot about you I don’t know.” He touched her face. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in seeing where things could go.”

Kat tried to ignore her body’s response to his touch. “And what if it doesn’t go anywhere?”

“Then no harm, no foul.”

That sounded too relaxed. “You’re not going to push?”

“I won’t push. But you can’t blame a guy for wanting to.”

“Okay. Just as long as we understand each other.”

I always dreamed of being a part of my favorite show, Parking Lot Potluck, but I never expected them to ask me to help solve a murder.

Someone poisoned a dish on the popular cooking competition. The host is dead and my favorite judge is in critical condition. The only one who witnessed the crime was Great Dane, Chloe.

Persephone and I are off to Seattle to solve the crime, but things are much different behind the scenes. Have the cast and crew been working on a recipe for deception, or was it a contestant with a case of sour grapes who’s brought production to a halt?

Whatever I do, I have to keep my inner fangirl in check, or my favorite show could get eliminated for good.

Marines Don’t Cry

by Danny Garcia & Jackie C. Garcia

Genre: Memoir, Non-fiction

Synopsis

Have you ever been lost — really lost?

Danny and Jackie answer this question in Marines Don’t Cry with stories of death to life, deep sorrow to joy, darkness to light, and freedom in Christ.

Danny recounts his early life in Spanish Harlem and describes conversion from a life of drugs and “the fast lane” to one consumed with knowing and serving God. This makes his journey of walking more than 52 million steps on six continents for children and world peace such an incredible story.

Marines Don’t Cry is about the transformational power of God’s love: how Danny found his calling and is delivering the message of Christ at all costs.

Enjoy this peek inside:

Chapter 7: “You Must Choose Now”

One night in my living room, under the influence of several drugs and alcohol, I experienced something bizarre and frightening. Something happened to me, and I knew that something was terribly wrong. In a moment, I felt my spirit leaving my body; a wrenching separation and tearing from deep within. Life literally came out of my body. My feet lifted from the floor. I levitated upwards and felt myself being pulled out of this world. It was an out-of-body experience. I did not feel physical pain, but I knew I was dying. All my life, I had been in control and never let fear consume me. Now, I was terrified.

I panicked.

My thoughts raced. I knew that if I died, I would go to hell because of all the bad things I had done in my life. I learned in Catholic school that if I died in the state of mortal sin, I was destined for hell, a place of eternal fire and torment. Eternity flashed before me, and I heard an audible voice through time, space, and spirit say:

“Which way do you choose? Life or death? You must choose now.”

The voice enveloped my thoughts. In a flash, the Lord gave me a choice of life or death, and it was a choice of both physical and spiritual proportions. Although I had not been in church for over twenty-five years, I knew I was lost, had no hope, and was going to hell. I was completely petrified, and for the first time in my entire life, I was truly afraid and frightened beyond my understanding.

With a desperate cry, I screamed, “Jesus, save me!”

As soon as I said the name “Jesus,” my spirit immediately jumped back into my body. I experienced the terrible fear of God. To this point in my life, I paid no attention to the teachings that the Catholic church instilled in me. I had turned away from Him and disobeyed His laws.

By calling on the name of Jesus Christ, I chose life. I was saved spiritually; the moment of my salvation from death and beginning the transformation to a new life. This was a miracle. I was thirty-three years old—the same age as Jesus when he started his public ministry.

I have no idea if they were in on the plan to have me killed, but I can’t stop myself from craving their taste, their bodies and their rough, domineering touches. Even though I know the risks, I keep falling deeper into our twisted relationship.

My plan is simple—find and get rid of the people who carried out the attack, kill my father…and don’t fall in love with the men who might have betrayed me.

This world already killed me once—let it try again.

Enjoy this peek inside:

“That’s the thing, Nem, it hurt. It still hurts. That’s why I don’t like you, that’s why I act the way I do. I killed her even though I’m pretty sure my dumb ass still loved her, and I’d do it again if I had to. I’m pissed at you because I see it coming this time, someone who’s lying, who’s scheming, and even knowing that, I still want you. Doesn’t matter, though, because I’ll end you if I have to, just like I did her, knowing damn well it’s a wound that won’t ever heal. So, yeah, I hate you, because looking at you is like looking at an injury I just know is coming. It’s like seeing the bullet I’m going to put in you, knowing how much it’s going to hurt, but not being able to stop it. You, Nem, are nothing but heartbreak coming.”

I wanted to argue, but hell…he was right. Either he had something to do with what happened to me, in which case I’d kill him, or he didn’t, and he’d know by the end who I was and lose me all over again.

Maybe that was the truth, though—life was nothing but heartbreak coming.

Fruit of the Poisonous Tree

Spider Green Mystery Thriller Series Book 1

by Norm Harris

Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Action

.

Faydra “Spider” Green is a dedicated Navy JAG lawyer who has lived her life in the shadows of a great and powerful man: her father, former President of the United States William Green. Green cannot heal the wound in his relationship with his daughter. His former power and influence curse Faydra and cause her to wonder if her accomplishments were her own doing.

A lawyer by trade, Faydra is both anxious and excited as she undertakes her first homicide investigation: —the brutal murder of a Navy SEAL. She reasons that a successful investigation will provide her the opportunity to validate her sense of self-worth. Thanks to her remarkable deductive abilities, Faydra soon realizes that the accused man, a Special Ops Marine war hero, may be innocent and that the Navy is using her as a pawn in a complex cover-up.

Meanwhile, a seasoned Navy Sea Captain, Egan Fletcher, whose wife had died eight years earlier, struggles to balance his Navy career with raising a son. When the Navy purposefully pairs him with Faydra in a meeting, the two Navy officers embark on an adrenaline-pumping adventure. It is a top-secret mission- impossible that will take them halfway around the world in an attempt to avert a catastrophic act of terrorism in the form of a biological war.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of Washington State’s Puget Sound and the mystique of East Asia, Faydra’s story revolves around a woman who appears to be as pure as the driven snow—yet, she is driven by an insatiable need to complete any assignment, no matter how dangerous. Along the way, she transforms into a symbol of hope, perseverance, and a woman’s ability to overcome life-threatening events.

Fay inhaled a massive gulp of air on her arrival at the surface. She searched for the silhouette of either the boat or the Nalon Vet. In the darkness, she could see neither. And where was Andrew? She glanced at her dive watch. “No!” she yelled. Ten minutes late. Good God, of all times to be late!

The Vet was gone, and she was alone—abandoned—somewhere in the Yellow Sea. Her neoprene suit’s buoyancy caused her to float on her back, her feet parallel with her head. There was a calm sea, a full moon, and she felt wholly immersed in a womb of silence. She sensed warmth. What now? The current might carry me to shore. I wonder if I will be dead by the time I wash ashore in the Marquesas IslandsShe talked to herself out loud: “Then again, if I were to wash ashore on a North Korean beach, it would make it easier for the Koreans to find me.”

She floated for a while, then felt a bump. Someone who had experienced a shark attack once had told her before a shark attacks its prey, it first bumps its intended victim with its snout. This person was by no means an expert on the subject.

Fay held her breath and waited. Where is it? The silence was broken by what sounded like thousands of large raindrops striking the surface of the water. Fay knew the sound: a school of small fish was jumping nearby. They do it when a larger fish is chasing them. They leap out of the water to escape the predator who is hunting them. I wish I could jump from the water right now.

Her floating arms spread wide, Fay resembled an ancient religious martyr tied to a cross, looking up at the moon—thinking.

Fay stood to meet Sheriff Gus and was at once struck by his good looks. She had seen her fair share of handsome men, but this man was gorgeous.

She could often tell a man’s disposition by how he dressed. Sheriff Virgil Gus had come from a fishing expedition, she would excuse him for his fashion faux pas. Had she spotted him, say, at the mall, for example, dressed as he was, she would have been duty-bound to call the fashion police.

His faded blue jeans, black motorcycle boots, a T-shirt, sunglasses, and a Harley Davidson ball cap, suggested, redneck. Faydra could not help but notice the round, silver dollar-sized, worn spot on his Levi jeans right front pocket. Created, perhaps, by a chewing tobacco can resting therein?

“Sheriff Gus, this is Commander Faydra Green,” Mrs. Joe said.

Fay smiled and extended her hand. “Sheriff. Good to see ya.” Being a former first daughter, she had met so many people over the years she could not possibly remember them all. Not to risk offending people by not recognizing him or her, she had adopted what she referred to as her “tofu” greeting. The folksy “good to see ya” greeting, like tofu, went with every occasion.

Virgil removed his sunglasses with his left hand and firmly shook her hand with his right in one smooth motion. “Howdy, ma’am.” He turned to his deputy, “This here’s Deputy Doug.”

Good Lord! Virgil Gus had the most dazzling eyes… deep sea green… much like her own. Mercy! She turned toward Doug, smiled, offered her hand, “Good to see ya, Deputy.” Was Doug the man’s first name or his last? His name badge read “Doug,” she had no clue. She remembered Deputy Dawg, the TV cartoon character from her childhood days, and grinned at the reference.

If Sheriff Gus was a hillbilly and a redneck, he was also a cowboy. He wore big iron on his hip. Fay knew most sheriffs are elected officials. Many have never served as peace officers before taking the office of Sheriff. They are managers or administrators. But the .44 Magnum hung in a black leather hog-leg holster at his hip suggested otherwise.

Deception Pass

Spider Green Mystery Thriller Series Book 3

.

Faydra “Spider” Green has had a storied career as a Navy lawyer, all while juggling being the daughter of a former U.S. President. She has successfully navigated complex diplomatic situations, pulse-pounding legal investigations, and dangerous military missions, managing each time to save the day. Fay sensed the presence of Death around her. In the curtains, in the book placed on the nightstand next to the bed. Even in the sunlight streaming through the window across the bed. Death lurked everywhere.

Although she had experienced Death before, including three of her own near-death experiences, Navy Judge Advocate Commander Faydra Green had not gotten used to his genius. Then again, Death was not a person. Although he was, without a doubt, a man. His costume was complete with a giant sling blade and a black hooded cape shrouding his white, pasty face.

Those closest to her seemed to die. Her mother had died twenty-eight years before in an automobile accident. An accident had left her half-sister, JP Fletcher, injured and near death. Her father, former United States President William Green, had died a little over two years ago. And she had killed a man. Oh yes, Fay knew Death quite well.

The tourist dressed in white shorts and running shoes, a tangerine top, a ball cap, sunglasses, and a red backpack descended the gang plank from the ship to the dock at Cruise Ships Dock at Limassol, New Port. Once on the dock, she paused to ensure the two men lurking in the shadows of the terminal building had noticed her. She hailed a cab. Her destination was the Russian Embassy in the nearby capitol of Nicosia.

The trip to the embassy would take almost two hours. Occasionally, she checked to be sure the men were keeping up with her. She wanted to know where they were at all times. Each morning, she began her day with but one simple rule Irishka has once taught her: “Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or gazelle. When the sun comes up, you’d better be running.” I must run today. Every day. Without fail, Kat thought.

Norm Harris’ first novel debuted on an Amazon bestseller list in 2002 and a Writer’s Digest award winner. It was a one-and-done, but now he’s back with a plan to publish the Spider Green Mystery Thriller Series from the first mystery/thriller of days gone by. Except for time spent in military service, he is a second-generation Seattleite (that’s what they call those who dwell in the shadow of Mt. Rainier), with his legal beagle son, K-K, and five giant tropical fish. Norm’s stories spring from his memories of people who he has met and places and the places he has visited as he traveled the world. Diversity, inclusion, and equality are foremost in each story. “Fay is an admirable, tough, brilliant protagonist.” said one reviewer. Said another, “Lt Commander Faydra Green from the JAG Corps is a “take no prisoners” protagonist…” Watch for his four upcoming first quarter 2022 novels, “Fruit of the Poisonous Tree”, “Arid Sea”, “Deception Pass”, and “The Girl Who Knew Death” in what he hopes to be an award-winning mystery thriller series. And in late 2022 his fifth book in the series “Rain and Wind and Fire”. Thank you for reading and if you enjoyed the stories please consider leaving a review!
